00:00Is America ready for a woman president?
00:07The America of 2024 is not the America of 2016, when Hillary Clinton ran on the Democratic
00:13ticket and lost to Donald Trump.
00:16Kamala Harris today is in an environment which sees many more women in the US House of Representatives,
00:21many more women Senators, and women generally in more powerful and important positions.
00:27So that has changed.
00:29But what hasn't changed is the sexism and misogyny that is the undercurrent of this
00:34election campaign, very much like it was for Hillary Clinton back in 2016.
00:39You can see that in the way Kamala Harris is judged for how she dresses, how she talks,
00:43and even how she laughs.
00:45It's also a known fact that Donald Trump really doesn't like powerful, independent women.
00:50He's quite flustered by them.
00:51He doesn't know how to deal with them.
00:53And so he resorts to name calling.
00:55That's why we've seen him often refer to Kamala Harris as nasty or as crazy, and basically
01:02words that one can't even say in a video like this.
01:05But it just shows how uncomfortable Trump is with the idea of a strong, independent
01:09woman.
01:10And therefore, when American voters cast their ballots this November, will also be how they
01:15see issues of gender, whether they're actually ready for a woman president and that to a
01:20woman president of color, because the fact that she is a woman of black and Indian descent
01:28makes Kamala Harris's situation very different.
01:31It adds a completely different layer to how she's looked at and how she is judged.
01:35And all of these issues will be put to test come November.
