00:00One of the big debates that's been reignited with President Trump's victory in the US election
00:09just now is whether liberal media organizations like the New York Times and the Washington
00:14Post live in their own liberal echo chambers, not really connected with the realities of
00:19what people, especially Trump supporters want and why they voted for Trump.
00:25That might be true to some extent.
00:26But the fact is, whether you are liberal or conservative, we are all living in one
00:31echo chamber or the other.
00:33If you look at Trump supporters in particular, young men under the age of 30 who overwhelmingly
00:38voted for Trump, most of the news that they consume does not come from newspapers like
00:43the New York Times.
00:45They get it from right wing conservative news outlets like Fox News, podcasts that are on
00:51the right, organizations like Breitbart, podcasters like Joe Rogan, who actually went on to endorse
00:58Trump.
00:59And therefore, their source of news is not the liberal media.
01:03It is ultra conservative right wing media.
01:06And the fact is today in the world that we live in, where we have become extremely polarized
01:11in a time when social media plays such a predominant role in our lives, where algorithms decide
01:17what we see on our news feeds, on our feeds on X or Facebook or any other social media
01:22platform, this polarization has gotten worse.
01:26And those echo chambers have frankly got even more amplified.
01:31And that's something to think about.
01:33Because unless we start consuming news in a way where we have more access to different
01:39sources of information, we will continue to live in these echo chambers.
01:43And that's true not just of America, but of India and many other democracies across the world.
