00:00A sub-regional meeting on enhancing cooperation for arms trade treaty universalization and humanitarian disarmament

00:24President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. sent a message
00:28for the first day of the Sub-Regional Meeting on Enhancing Cooperation
00:32for Firearms Trade Treaty Universalization and Humanitarian Disarmament.
00:37According to the President, peace and unity can be achieved
00:41if the countries have respect, equality, and sovereignty.
00:45The establishment of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, or ASEAN,
00:49and the adoption of the Ottawa Convention
00:52will play a key role in promoting peace and progressive nations.
00:57The Office of the Special Envoy on Transnational Crime
01:00led the three-day meeting under the office of the President.
01:04The Department of Foreign Affairs and Non-Violence International Southeast Asia are present.
01:09Some of the countries present are the governments of Indonesia, Malaysia, Cambodia, and Japan.
01:15The Law Enforcement Agencies of the Philippines are also present,
01:19including the National Security Council, Department of National Defense, and Bureau of Customs.

01:31and your dedication to building a safer and more secure region for all of our people.
01:37Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin also sent a message
01:41through Ambassador Marciano Paineur Jr.
01:44The Arms Trade Treaty stands as a landmark effort to regulate the global arms trade,
01:52prevent diversion, and reduce human suffering caused by illicit arms transfers.
01:58The roadmap for regulation of the use of arms will be discussed in the coming days
02:03to strengthen arms control in the countries.
02:06Countries will also exchange ideas for the Capacity Building Joint Training Program
02:12and the resolution of cross-border arms trade challenges.
02:15By working together, we can prevent conflict,
02:18protect lives, and build a future where arms are traded responsibly
02:25and used only in accordance with international law and humanitarian principles.
