PAGASA: Shear line weakens but rains to persist due to easterlies

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Monday, Feb. 24 said the effect of the shear line—formed by the collision of cold winds from the northeast monsoon (amihan) and warm breezes from the Pacific Ocean (easterlies)—has weakened. However, rains may still affect several areas due to other prevailing weather systems. 00:00Good morning to all of you. This is the latest weather update for Monday, February 24, 2025.

00:11At present, the effect of the shear line is partially reduced and it is no longer affecting any part of our country.

00:19However, some parts of our country will still experience a rainy season due to the effect of the easterly or hot wind coming from the Pacific Ocean,

00:28as well as the northeast monsoon.

00:32If we look at our latest satellite animation, we can see clouds approaching our land.

00:40This is due to the easterly or hot wind coming from the Pacific Ocean.

00:44Due to the easterly or hot wind coming from the Pacific Ocean, many parts of our country will experience a rainy season,

00:51as well as the eastern sections of Mindanao and other parts of the Bicol Region.

00:57Meanwhile, for areas of Northern and Central Luzon, the northeast monsoon is still in effect.

01:03This will result in severe rains or storms in large parts of Northern Luzon.

01:10In the next few days, we expect that the effect of the northeast monsoon will be partially reduced

01:15and severe rains will fall in the eastern part of the Luzon area for the next two days.

01:21When Thursday comes, the effect of the easterly or hot wind will be partially reduced.

01:27Before the end of the week, we expect clear skies in large parts of our country.

01:34For now, we are not being monitored by a low-pressure area or storm inside and outside of our Philippine Area of Responsibility.

01:44There will be weather conditions here in Luzon due to the effect of the easterly or hot wind.

01:49The skies will be cloudy with severe rains or storms in Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Aurora.

02:01In large parts of Luzon, the weather will be clear but there are still chances of heavy rainfall

02:08or isolated light rains here in Ilocos Region, in large parts or the rest of Central Luzon area,

02:15as well as here in Metro Manila and Calobar Zone.

02:18Meanwhile, most parts of Bicol Region, as well as in Mimaropa,

02:22the weather will be clear but there are still chances of isolated thunderstorms that are more common in the afternoon and night.

02:30Here in the southern portion of Bicol Region, in Sorsogon and Masbate,

02:34it will be possible to have heavy rains due to the effect of the easterlies.

02:41As for the temperature forecast for the neighboring cities here in Luzon,

02:44for Tuguegarao, our maximum temperatures will reach 27 degrees Celsius.

02:50For here in Lawag, the temperature will range from 24 to 30 degrees Celsius,

02:5715 to 22 for Baguio City, and here in Metro Manila, it will range from 22 to 30 degrees Celsius.

03:04For Ligaspe City, the maximum temperature will reach 31 degrees Celsius,

03:08and here in Tagaytay, the maximum temperature will range from 20 to 28 degrees Celsius.

03:17As for the weather forecast for the vast majority of our country,

03:21due to the continuous effect of the easterlies, it will be possible to have heavy rains over large parts of Visayas area.

03:29Also, here in the eastern sections of Mindanao, in Caraga, Davao de Oro, and Davao Oriental,

03:36it is possible to experience heavy rains due to the effect of the easterlies.

03:41For the rest of Visayas and Mindanao, here in Palawan,

03:44generally, we have fair weather conditions but there are still chances of isolated thunderstorms,

03:49especially in the afternoon or evening.

03:53As for the temperature forecast for the neighboring cities,

03:55here in Palawan, the maximum temperature for Kalayaan Islands and Puerto Princesa will reach 31 degrees Celsius.

04:03For Visayas, for Ilo-Ilo, the maximum temperature will range from 23 to 30 degrees Celsius,

04:10and 29 degrees Celsius for Tacloban and Metro Cebu.

04:17For Mindanao, the maximum temperature for Zamboanga as well as Metro Davao will reach 32 degrees Celsius,

04:23and for Cagayan de Oro, the maximum temperature will range from 24 to 29 degrees Celsius.

04:32As for the sea level, we expect that it will rise to a very high level in the coastal areas of the Northern Luzon,

04:39due to the effect of the easterlies,

04:42particularly in the coastal areas of Batanes,

04:45as well as the northern coast of Cagayan, along with the Babuyan Islands,

04:49as well as the coastal areas of Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur.

04:54The sea level may reach 5.0 meters,

04:57which is why it is dangerous for our countrymen, especially those who have small sea vehicles.
