00:00Everton are set for a major contract reshuffle this summer, with big changes on the horizon.
00:09David Moyes has highlighted the club's transformation, pointing to the new ownership, an upcoming
00:14stadium move and a more ambitious outlook.
00:18Has Everton become a more attractive destination?
00:21I spoke with Will Rooney of Liverpool World about the expected overhaul and what it means
00:27for the club's next chapter.
00:29So Will, looking at Everton and David Moyes obviously coming out and saying that the contract
00:34talks are on hold now.
00:36It seems like a lot of clubs, especially in the top flight, are going to be dealing with
00:40huge deals and incomings, outgoings in the summer.
00:44It's a summer where obviously there's going to be a lot of reshuffling, the new owners,
00:48new management.
00:49What's the latest you can tell us in terms of the contract talks and what you see going
00:55on at Everton?
00:56I feel like it's probably a period this summer where we're going to be catching up a lot
00:59with new news almost breaking most weeks is the way it's looking.
01:05Yeah, definitely.
01:06It's an interesting summer because 11 players are out of contract in the current squad,
01:13that's including low knees.
01:16It's a chance to reset for Everton, I think.
01:18I asked David Moyes in his first press conference and he agreed that it's a chance for a clean
01:27slate really because the PSR situation is looking a lot healthier.
01:32Everton have got decisions to make on the players.
01:36He came out and said the contract talks are on hold until the safety is secured.
01:45I would like to think Everton have already secured the safety but I get where he's coming
01:50from.
01:51Maybe it buys Everton a little bit of time to say that, to really come down to decision
01:56rather than players knocking on David Moyes' door and saying what's happened.
02:00But there are some decisions to make.
02:03You look through the squad, Dominic Calverlue and there's been a deal on the table, he hasn't
02:07signed it, he's out injured with a serious hamstring injury now, will Everton want to
02:13offer him the same terms that potentially they were going to give him?
02:17Driss Garnagay has been unbelievable in the last few weeks.
02:25He covers so much ground, wins so many challenges and just keeps things simple with the ball.
02:31He's 35, how long does he potentially get?
02:37Does his wages that he would be wanting warrant his age?
02:43Does he maybe go somewhere else and think I want one more pay?
02:47I don't know.
02:48Abdullahi Zakkouri is another interesting one.
02:52He's had a new lease of life since David Moyes arrived, I think Everton have got a club option
02:57on that one, so they'll have to decide on that.
03:00But again, Everton are going into a new era on the Liverpool waterfront.
03:06The stadium is incredible, they've got a manager who is as experienced as he comes but he's
03:15always learning, he's always ready to change his ways a little bit, which is a big boost.
03:22We've signed some really good players, when he was at West Ham, David Moyes, I'd like
03:26to Kuzos and Paqueta and all of us.
03:31Cech has been a really good servant for them and people will be looking at that and thinking
03:37well, he went and won a European trophy at West Ham, why couldn't we go and do that with
03:41Everton?
03:43The stadium, Shaun Dyche did a great job, but did some players want to play that style
03:51of football?
03:52You've got to be realistic, did they fancy playing a Shaun Dyche style?
03:56Probably not a lot did, so maybe that made Everton's task a little bit more difficult
04:02and any players maybe arriving and thinking well, we'll be in a relegation battle now,
04:07do I want to go to Everton and do that or do I want to go somewhere else?
04:11You'd like to think going into next season, that's going to be the case, that's not going
04:15to be the case, they'll be looking upwards and that's what David Moyes is very much doing.
04:20He's saying it's going to be a gradual step, but he's already talking about getting Everton
04:24and challenging for Europe again and that's what Evertonians want to hear.
04:28They don't want to be in the lower echelons thinking a 15th place finish will be fine,
04:37they want to be battered to where they belong and that's fighting for Europe and the way
04:41to do that is to attract top players.
