00:00Hello and welcome to Manchester World, my name's Theo Huston-Betts and today we're going to be talking about International Women's Day.
00:05Now the day itself is this Saturday, but a whole host of wonderful events are going on around the city.
00:10Some aiming to educate, some aiming to entertain, and some serving honour to some of the amazing women that have made important strides forward in recent years.
00:18This video will serve to talk you through some of the amazing events going on in Greater Manchester over the weekend, so buckle in because there's a lot to get through.
00:24We're going to start at Grubb, who are hosting a laughs fest over the whole weekend.
00:28There'll be music, food, drinks, art films and much more, with food available on Saturday from local women-run businesses such as Enchiladie.
00:35Over the three days they've got a sip-and-paint event with music, which leaves you with some awesome artwork to take home,
00:40as well as a disco bingo and a showing of the Megan Fox film, Jennifer's Body.
00:44This Sunday there's an International Women's Day bike ride as well, starting at the Pavilion in Alexander Park.
00:49The ride will be 14 miles long with a focus on socialising and having fun.
00:53The group running it are called B-Pedal Ready and it looks as though it'll be a great time.
00:56On Saturday there's a tour of Women's Most Formidable Women, starting at Manchester Art Gallery.
01:01The walk will be a tribute to women such as Elizabeth Gaskell, Hannah Mitchell, Ellen Wilkinson and many more influential women from Manchester's history.
01:08It starts at 11am, so don't be late.
01:10At Whitworth Lock on Sunday the market will be filled up by female-owned businesses, offering a delightful range of different goods and wares.
01:17We're talking some amazing pieces of art, handcrafted jewellery, much, much more.
01:21It promises to be a delightful experience.
01:23And the final event that we'll touch on is MACFest, a programme of events designed to empower and encourage Muslim women,
01:28with a focus on advancing and celebrating the equality of Muslim women around the world.
01:32There'll be conversations with writers, broadcasters, actors and Filipino princess Habiba Sarip.
01:37It looks to be a great opportunity.
