00:38society amid an ongoing struggle against inequality and discrimination.
00:47Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Alejandra Garcia from Telesur Studios in Havana, Cuba.
00:51We begin with the news.
01:10In Syria, more than 300 civilians in the Latakia coastal region were killed in five massacres
01:15perpetrated by the de facto government.
01:18Human rights organizations denounced the death of at least 311 civilians, including in the
01:24coastal region, at the hands of government forces.
01:27Witnesses say that since Thursday, the security forces of the de facto government triggered
01:32violent clashes in the coastal city of Jable and then spread to other localities in the
01:38provinces of Tartus and Latakia in the west of the country.
01:42Experts qualify this event as the biggest violence recorded in Syria since the overthrow
01:47of President Bashar al-Assad's government last December.
01:55Israeli forces continued their aggressions against the Palestinian people after destroying
01:59several camps in the occupied West Bank.
02:02The United Nations Organization condemned the aggressions against the Jenin, Tul Karem
02:07and Nour Sham camps, denouncing the eviction of the Palestinians as well as the destruction
02:12of their infrastructure.
02:14The international organization warns that these war campaigns are causing the displacement
02:19of more than 40,000 civilians, considered the largest displacement of Palestinians in
02:24the West Bank in the last 50 years.
02:27The Zionist attacks are part of the expansionist plan of Israel called Iron Wall, with the
02:33aim of destroying the homes of millions of Palestinian shelters from territories occupied
02:39by the Tel Aviv regime.
02:45The Palestinian resistance movement Hamas supported the decision of the Yemeni movement
02:51Ansar Allah to resume naval operations against Israel.
02:55Through a communique, Hamas praised the Ansar Allah decision, which gave Israel four days
03:00to allow the entry of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip or face again a naval blockade
03:06by Yemen in the Red Sea.
03:08The Palestinian resistance called on the countries of the region to adopt the Yemeni movement's
03:14measures to eradicate Zionism and thwart its plans for famine in the Palestinian enclave.
03:21Since the agreement of an Israeli ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, Hamas reiterated its commitment
03:26to implement all the terms of the agreement and the exchange of prisoners in all its stages.
03:33In Israel, 56 hostages released by the Palestinian Hamas movement issued a letter demanding Prime
03:42Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to complete the second phase of the ceasefire agreement.
03:47They said that resuming fighting would mean exposing all those who remain in the enclave
03:52to danger.
03:53Meanwhile, the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas released a video in which an Israeli
03:58soldier appeals to Israeli authorities saying the only way to achieve freedom for all hostages
04:04is an exchange agreement and an end to attacks.
04:08However, the Israeli government continues violating the ceasefire agreement that came
04:13into force last January 19 and has not yet revoked a ban on the entry of humanitarian
04:19aid into the Gaza Strip.
04:28In Indonesia, flash floods and landslides have left three dead and five missing in Sukhumi
04:44Bumi Regency, west of Java province.
04:47A press official said rescue operations will continue for the next seven days or more if
04:51necessary.
04:53There are teams carrying out risk assessments to establish the exact magnitude of this natural
04:58catastrophe.
05:00Heavy machinery has been mobilized to speed up the cleaning of avenues and roads.
05:05At least 26 houses are seriously affected and a bridge has collapsed.
05:14In Iraq, heavy rains caused severe flooding in the streets of Baghdad and other governorates.
05:20In response to the problem, the authorities ordered the mobilization of emergency teams
05:24to mitigate the crisis in key areas where the water level has reached the height of
05:30the sidewalk.
05:31The flooding affected not only highways and unpaved roads but also commercial establishments
05:36and some homes.
05:38Several governors declared a state of emergency in their respective provinces and encouraged
05:43residents to avoid road travel until the situation is brought under control.
05:51In Peru, weather authorities issued Friday a red alert in eight departments due to possible
05:57landslides caused by heavy rains.
06:00The alerts were specially issued to ravines due to the heavy rainfalls expected in several
06:07regions of the country.
06:08On the other hand, yellow alerts have been issued for the regions of Lambayeque, Piura
06:13and Tacna, while 11 departments are under orange alerts.
06:21In this context, in Argentina, the storm in Bahía Blanca left at least 10 people dead
06:27and thousands of evacuees, forcing authorities to implement a preventive power outage and
06:33to suspend all activities until further notice.
06:37In this sense, the municipality has warned about the magnitude of the weather disaster,
06:41which generates concern about the possibility of more victims.
06:45For this reason, the community is in a state of alert, while the damage is assessed and
06:50assistance is sought for those affected by this devastating storm.
07:01We are receiving support from the Argentine Army, both with heavy machinery and boats.
07:07We are working to evacuate by river the patients from Pena Hospital, which is completely flooded,
07:13to the municipal hospital.

08:02now he will replace Laisley Voltaire until August 7th 2025.

08:49the center.
08:50Since 2021, more than 500 prisoners have been killed in Ecuadorian jails.
09:01President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Thursday to create the country's
09:05first strategic bitcoin reserve in an attempt to make the United States a crypto capital
09:10of the world.
09:11According to the White House cryptocurrency czar David Sachs, the currency will be held
09:17as a store of value and Washington will not sell any bitcoins deposited there.
09:24The reserve will be capitalized with bitcoins belonging to the U.S. federal government that
09:29were seized as part of criminal or civil asset forfeiture proceedings.
09:35The executive order establishes a U.S. digital asset pool consisting of digital assets other
09:42than bitcoins such as Ethereum, XRP, Solana and Cardano.
09:50Kenyan President William Ruto has urged South Sudan's President Salva Kiir and First Vice
09:56President Riek Machar to begin talks aimed at promoting peace.
10:00This follows an increase in tensions in the country after Vice President Machar's residence
10:05was recently surrounded by the military and several of his allies were arrested.
10:10In a statement, the president urged the two leaders to abandon their disagreements as
10:15the region strives for stabilization under intergovernmental development authority.
10:20The events have intensified concerns about the weak peace pact ratified in 2018.
10:26In addition, President Ruto indicated that diplomatic efforts are on their way to establish
10:31a lasting solution to the crisis.
10:38Russian military forces freed three localities in the Kursk region which is under attack
10:43by Ukrainian troops.

10:50of the NATO troops, the three localities are under control of the Russian army.
10:55Also the military agency detailed that during the clashes they defeated 14 Kaif brigades

11:13transports and seven armoured combat vehicles.
11:16In South Korea, on Saturday, former President Jung Suk-kyo was released after spending almost
11:26two months in jail.
11:27The Seoul Central District Court ruled that Yoon's arrest had exceeded the legal period
11:32and that his prosecution was carried out past the said detention period.
11:37Following the court's ruling, the president, now freed, will face a constitutional resolution
11:43on his impeachment trial after his fleeting declaration of martial law on December 3rd.

12:30Welcome back to From the South.
12:32March 8th, International Women's Day, was established by the General Assembly of the
12:37United Nations organization in 1977.
12:40The United Nations established this day in remembrance of March 8th, 1857, when 129 women
12:48textile workers in New York died in a fire while demonstrating against the long working
12:53days, low wages and precarious working conditions.
12:57This Saturday, as part of the commemoration of a new international women's strike, they
13:01will take to the streets again to counteract the violation of the human rights of women
13:06and girls.
13:07This date seeks to highlight the role of women in the territories and communities.
13:15In Europe, citizens mobilized for International Women's Day to demand real equality and an
13:20end to gender-based violence, discrimination and sexual harassment.
13:24Women rights activists mobilized throughout Europe to reject the resurgence of the extreme
13:29right wing in the continent.
13:31On this day, the Italian government approved a bill that typifies femicide as a crime in
13:36the legal system with a penalty of life imprisonment.
13:40This decision came after an increase in alerts for harassment and violence in that country.
13:46Likewise, in Spain, activists started a day of struggle for equality and against reactionary
13:51and sexist movements.
13:54Parisian activists also took to the streets of France to defend women's rights.
14:02Across Turkey, thousands of women mobilized Saturday on International Women's Day to
14:08reject inequality and violence against women.
14:12Demonstrators denounced the increase in sexual harassment and pressure from patriarchal society
14:17and called for policies to diminish such pressure.
14:21Dozens of women gathered in the capital Istanbul for a feminist night march, despite the fact
14:27that in recent years, authorities have blocked attempts by women to demonstrate in Turkey's
14:32square, Istanbul's traditional rallying point for demonstrations.
14:37Despite President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's government declaring 2025 as the year of the
14:42family, critics accused his administration of imposing restrictions on women's rights
14:47and not doing enough to address men's violence against women.
14:57And we go to Latin America now.
14:59In Quito, capital of Ecuador, hundreds of women are gathering to celebrate International
15:04Women's Day with a march towards the center of the city.
15:08It is a march to voice women's opposition to violence, the patriarchal system and in
15:12defense of women's rights.
15:19Venezuelan women are marching in the city of Caracas celebrating International Women's
15:24Day.
15:25Activities to march this international holiday began earlier in the morning with a march
15:30through several points of the city of Caracas.
15:33Venezuelan men also joined this festivity to echo the fight against sexism, gender-based
15:39violence and discrimination.
15:41These activities seek to make the female struggle for equality visible all over the world.
15:47And today, empowered women committed and passionate about our revolution come to meet
15:57with the feminist leader Nicolas Maduro, the man who has given continuity to the awakening
16:02of Hugo Chavez, for acknowledging and giving visibility to Venezuelan women.
16:08Now we go to Mexico where various groups are meeting at the intersection monument symbolically
16:14renamed Roundabout of the Women who Fight as part of the activities to commemorate International
16:20Women's Day.
16:22Thousands of women took to the streets to demand an end to gender, economic, vicarious,
16:29sexual and political violence.
16:31The demonstration meant to reach to the capital Zócalo and started at the Independence and
16:37Angel Obelisk monument to the revolution and the Roundabout of the Women who Fight.
16:43At the rally, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum vindicated the struggle of women for their
16:48rights, for having historically endured inequality.
16:56Also in this context, in Russia, President Vladimir Putin sent a congratulation message
17:00to Russian women on this International Women's Day.
17:04The Russian president availed himself of the international holiday to underscore the importance
17:10of women in the development of his country.
17:12He said, this date serves to exalt gratitude, love and respect for women.
17:18Putin said, women are the ones who inspire men to perform noble deeds and to become true
17:24protectors of their families.
17:31Dear women, we know that a great part of life depends on you, on your talent, creative energy,
17:37love, the extreme degree of responsibility with which you take on any task.
17:43We always admire your beauty, tenderness, and charm.
17:47Have a happy day along your loved ones.
