14:42The Caribbean community is calling for regional solidarity with the Cuban Medical Brigades
14:48that for over 20 years have provided essential medical service in the region.
14:53The initiative comes in response to statements by the US State Department indicating sanctions
14:58against CARICOM officials who are associated with or facilitated the Cuban Medical Brigades
15:03operating in the Caribbean region.
15:06According to Jerome Phillips, Barbados Ambassador to Cuba, this is a matter of regional sovereignty
15:11and public health.
15:13On February 21, 2025, the United States extended the visa restrictions to persons linked to
15:21Cuban medical missions abroad, including the direct family of these individuals.
15:25The real objective is to undermine both Cuba's international prestige and the income of Cuban doctors.

16:56In China, a unique writing system created and used by women recovers its essence through
17:02various handicraft expressions nowadays.
17:05The system in question is called Nuxiu and arose in the 19th century in the Chinese province
17:10of Hunan.
17:11It has its origins in Chinese characters but, instead of having a square shape, this script
17:17adopts filiform and oblique strokes in the form of slangs.
17:23Moreover, this writing literally means women's writing and, from it, a whole culture was
17:28generated.
17:29Nuxiu was transmitted mainly from mothers to daughters and was practiced among sisters
17:34and friends for pleasure.
17:42Nuxiu writing was used by women who, in the feudal era, had no access to education and
17:47often used it to write their autobiographies.
17:51The Nuxiu culture evolved to become internationally known.
17:54However, local and national authorities are trying to revive it as this culture is in
17:59danger of disappearing since Yang Huanyi, the last writer and holder of the Nuxiu, passed
18:05away on September 20, 2004.
18:18During my time designing character-based jewelry, I happened to open a book from the
18:22shelf and found the unique beauty of Nuxiu characters.
18:28They resemble curved willow leaves, crescent moons, and even sharp little knives.
18:36As I delve deeper into Nuxiu culture, I was deeply moved by its blend of gentleness and
18:41resilience, which inspired me to create the Nuxiu Jewelry series.
