Tej Pratap Yadav's Holi Celebrations Spark Controversy; Security Constable Removed
Patna: A constable assigned as the security guard of RJD leader Tej Pratap Yadav was sent to the police lines on Sunday after he was seen dancing in uniform during Holi celebrations at the former Bihar minister’s residence.
According to a statement from the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) office, Constable Deepak Kumar was immediately relieved from his duty and will be replaced by another officer.
The incident, which sparked controversy, occurred on Saturday when Tej Pratap Yadav, the elder son of former chief ministers Lalu Prasad and Rabri Devi, allegedly ordered the constable to perform a dance move, threatening suspension if he refused. A video circulating on social media captures Yadav seated on a stage, directing the policeman to dance, saying, "If you don’t, you’ll be suspended. Don’t mind, it’s Holi." Though Kumar did not perform the specific move, he complied by hopping with his arm raised.
In scenes reminiscent of the ‘Kapda Fad Holi’ celebrations once held by his father, Yadav was also seen tearing the clothes of supporters and riding a scooter on the streets near his residence, while chanting “Happy Holi Paltu Chacha,” a jibe at Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
Meanwhile, Patna Traffic Police issued a fine of ₹4,000 to the owner of the scooter Yadav rode, citing violations including riding without a helmet, lack of a Pollution Under Control Certificate (PUCC), and absence of insurance, according to SP (Traffic) Aprajit Lohan.
