00:00My name is Alexis Siricky and I am the digital program director here at Beasley Media Group
00:11in Charlotte. Today I'm going to show you how to make a photo gallery in WordPress. Now photo
00:17galleries are great for content, they're great for your clients, and they're great for after
00:23events to show all your listeners how the event went and even to show clients how they went as
00:28well. Now to save us a little bit of time today, I have pre-done a little bit of information for the
00:34galleries, however this video will show you step by step how to create a photo gallery in WordPress.
00:42So to begin you're going to go on your dashboard, this is what your dashboard looks like, it might
00:46be a little different depending on your role if you are marketing or if you are the digital program
00:51director for your market, but you're going to go to new and when you hover over new you'll see
00:58there's posts, media, pages, listicles, galleries, and we're going to hit gallery. Now when you
01:05click gallery it will look like this. Now same kind of concept like when you're doing a blog but you
01:12need a title for your gallery. For today we are going to do a gallery that is on a recent event that
01:21happened in media. It is the 74th annual Keynes Film Festival. So as you can see this is programmed in
01:28a little bit before but you are going to write a title. I usually do all caps with my titles but
01:35something just that tells everyone about what the gallery is. Now sometimes you can also write in
01:42all caps gallery. That's a better explanation to your viewers on your social media and on your
01:49website that this is a photo gallery. But for this one I am just going to keep it off and do 25 of the
01:57best looks from the 74th annual Keynes Film Festival. Now if we go and scroll down and look here
02:05you'll see it says add image. Now we're going to get to this step in a minute but I just want to take a
02:11look at the permalink right here. Now as you can see from what the title is it will automatically
02:17once you hit save draft put this as your url. If you end up changing something right if I end up
02:24changing it to gallery you might want to go and hit save draft so you can see that it has now changed.
02:32I am going to like I said leave this off and hit save draft again but please make a note that your url
02:38matches whatever your title is and this is great for finding it when you're searching in google and
02:43other search engines or when your on-air talent might be talking about your gallery on air and
02:49the listener is driving and then maybe wants to once they get to the safe destination look up what the
02:55talent was talking about. You want them both to match. Again once you hit save draft it will
03:02automatically reload and save it. If you hit publish it will pick what you put in there as the final
03:09result. So just make sure you know that if you go back and do some edits. Now let's go to add image.
03:16Now for this gallery I did use Getty Images. As you can see right here the 74th annual Canes Film
03:23Festival has a bunch of fun photos and I wanted to do some of the best looks right. So when you are ready
03:32you go and you can save images that are in editorial. We have an editorial subscription. You will have a
03:39login for your market for your Getty Images. But you really want to make sure that this little tab
03:45is set on editorial because as you see some of the images changed right. And if it's not on editorial
03:53some of the images will say they cost money. So just always take a minute and make sure editorial
03:59subscription is on if you're choosing to use photos from Getty Images to make your gallery.
04:05Now I've already downloaded the images that I wanted from Getty and I have hit add image
04:12and uploaded them to our media gallery. Now as you see right here when you want to upload files
04:20you're going to hit upload and you can just pick all the images that you need. And I'm just going to
04:26use this one as a test. But it takes a moment to load but once it loads you'll see on the side
04:32that your images will have information. They'll have usually a title and they'll have usually a
04:41caption associated with it. So as you see right here it already programmed in opening ceremony of the
04:48Cane's Film Festival. And it has a little bit about what this photo is. So when you scroll down you'll
04:57see the photo is by Peskel Lee. Sorry if I pronounced that wrong. But you're going to copy and paste every
05:05single photo and put that down on the attribution. Now again make sure that you go to each photo which we
05:12are about to do and copy and paste that attribution down here. Attribution is giving credit to whomever
05:19took the photo because we want them to be honored for their work. Now this is a little different when
05:25you're doing an event or maybe photos that you took personally or your videographer, your photographer
05:31of your station took personally or even your talent. You're going to put that image attribution here
05:39for that specific person. So for example if I took this photo I would put alexis ricky. This at the
05:47end you'll see where it shows up when we are done with our gallery. But as you see right here this photo
05:53is already got some information which I want to keep because I want people to know what this outfit is
05:59about. And I'm going to just delete this one and just show you with these images how to create the
06:06gallery. So one by one we're going to go in and we are going to give image attribution to each of these
06:13photos. You really need to make sure that you go and you click each one individually. This is just very
06:22important. I just really want to make that a big point just because different photographers for these
06:29events could be there and we don't want to give someone the wrong credit. Sometimes what might
06:36happen I don't think it's going to happen today but it does for some older photos in Getty Images
06:42but they do just end up saying Getty Images and not the photographer's full name. That's okay.
06:47Just remember you put Getty Images at the bottom. The same type of
06:52rule goes as well if you're creating a gallery from images that maybe a client sent you. Let's just say
07:02it was Doritos and Doritos sent you these photos to use for a blog or for a client blog post. You put
07:11right there Doritos. It's just again wherever you're getting these images from it helps with legal and it
07:18helps with again giving credit to these photographers. With Shutterstock the same thing goes. Every single
07:26photo that you download from Shutterstock does have a credit at the bottom and you'll see it. I'll show
07:32you an example at the end of this video of Shutterstock where to find that just because we aren't using it
07:40today for this gallery but it is important to see. So let me just take the time. This is a little bit longer
07:47because there are 25 photos in this gallery but I just want to show you all how you go and do it.
07:56It automatically saves by the way when you put it in there in the system so just know that there's
08:02nothing you need to hit save drafts in this gallery. Just a few more to finish.
08:20And as you guys can see too I'm removing it from the caption as well. You see I'm deleting it just so
08:25there's not a double posting of it because it can aesthetically look a little a little messy.
08:32So you can go ahead and delete that after you've given that image attribution.
08:35All right and this is our last photo. All right so we've done the image attribution we've got our
08:54caption our titles to it. When you upload photos though from events make sure that you always make
09:00uh redo the titles because it might show up like image or whatever. We don't want that showing up.
09:08Keep in mind people are going to see what the title is what the caption is for your images that you
09:13upload. But once you have all of them if you're on a Mac you can just hit the command button and check
09:19every single photo that you would like in your gallery. When you upload it usually automatically checks
09:27but we're going to do it this way since I've already uploaded them. And then you're going to
09:32hit select images. Now every single one of these images is in our gallery. Now if you were doing
09:38something like numbered right if I was numbering these like this was the best look this was number
09:4223 24 you can rearrange these just by holding down and kind of just moving them where you like.
09:51I kind of want to put all of these ones together since these are some red carpet looks and the way
09:58that you do this is what it will show up to the user. So that's pretty cool um to know as well um you
10:05can rearrange them. So I'm going to just move these um all around kind of just get a um different um vibe
10:15from them. I just think that all the red carpet should be in together. Perfect okay so now if we
10:23scroll down this is again how the order I want everything to look. We're going to scroll down
10:28and we're going to see um that there is a blog um section. Now as you can tell I've already pre-done
10:37this in um and what you need to do is if this was blank which I'm just going to copy it um and remove
10:44it just so you can see but you need to write some sort of blog um content usually about a paragraph
10:52or two about what your uh gallery is. So this if this was a kiss 95 event I would write um that this
11:01is an event um these photos are of a pool party you know whatever you got going on and as you can tell
11:11from my little bio I have about uh two paragraphs and it just kind of talks about the film festival
11:17in general um it's talking about some looks um get fun with it get creative but you need at least
11:24um two paragraphs of information about your gallery before you are ready to publish. Now one thing to note
11:32too is if I wanted to give people a little bit more information about this um film festival because not a
11:41lot of people know it I could always link back to their website as well which I am going to do just
11:48because it does help with SEO as well so I'm going to just link it this is your little link I'm going
11:55to hit link options and open a new tab and it's just another way again for this to help with your SEO.
12:01So after you have all of your information you're going to scroll down and you're going to focus on
12:06your Yoast SEO for your gallery again a focus key phrase is usually a word or a small phrase that
12:14pops up multiple times in your article in your gallery uh for this I do say a lot uh the about
12:21the film festival I say it about three times so that is why I picked that now you're going to hit edit
12:27snippet and as you can see our SEO title is great it's in green so that's what we want you always want
12:32the green um and then you're going to put in your meta description uh there are other training videos
12:38on Beasley Academy about SEO and how to operate it properly but I just wanted to show you all how this
12:46is valued to your galleries as well so my meta description really is just talking about the film
12:52festival gives a little preview about celebrity looks um and it's going to help with our google search
12:59engine now when you go over to the side you'll see gallery settings um you want to make sure that
13:06this is blue it is um 99 of the time automatic on your um gallery section but if you did hide this
13:15if you hit no that would mean that once this is published people could go in and download these
13:20photos now we do not want to do that ever with Getty Images but if it's an event or something that
13:27maybe your client wants them to be able to download in their gallery of course hit it good to go then
13:33uh users can download but with Getty Images never do this um because again that's going against our
13:39editorial subscription and we don't want that um to happen now album um we do have here concerts and
13:47station events but this has nothing to do with either of those um but we do want to pick a featured image
13:53now featured images you could pick something that um has nothing to do with the gallery um inside if
13:59you wanted to like if this was about toys to play with we could pick a brand new photo if you wanted
14:04to for the featured images but i suggest picking something that you do have in your gallery um i always
14:11say pick something that is horizontal right because you don't want the head to get cut off um if i was to
14:18pick this it would only show about this length and it would look terrible um when shared on socials
14:24so i'm going to pick this wild green dress something that really stands out to a listener who would see
14:30it on social media and be like wow that dress is crazy i need to see what these other looks are in
14:35this gallery and you just hit set featured image now i'm going to go up and hit just save draft because
14:42i always like to do this because you never know when your computer is going to crash um now we're going to
14:47focus on categories tags now this category for me is all about um photos so i'm going to hit that
14:53category um but it also is about celebrity news so i'm going to hit celebs categories again there's
14:59another training video about how to use them properly that you will be able to find in beasley academy
15:04but i just wanted to show you um what um i'm going to pick for this gallery now tags um don't go crazy
15:12with tags i am though uh going to pick a um simple tag of the 74th annual competition and then i'm also
15:22going to uh pick a tag of 2021 just because this is during this year um and you can also put maybe
15:29photos um as well but don't go crazy with tags again another training video is in the academy for you to
15:36learn more about those shows uh there is no show associated with this um so i'm not going to pick
15:44anything um i could pick entertainment news maybe and it would go to that page and that could fit for
15:49this because it is entertainment um but at this time i'm not going to pick any show to be associated
15:54with this gallery now once you have all your info filled and you have your content filled in you have
16:00your pictures you can go ahead and hit publish now if this was something you wanted to make sure was
16:06previewed you can also schedule it um for whatever day you need it um to be by but now we're going to
16:12hit publish and i'm going to click this link and show you now what this gallery is going to look like
16:20it's going to be awesome so just like as a regular blog we have the title um here's me as the author
16:26here's the featured image that we picked and here is the little about the festival um that i had
16:33mentioned because again you want to give your users something to kind of read about before they start
16:38scrolling now when you scroll down you can see the info about the image you can see the attribution
16:45and so on and so forth which is really awesome because every time that a user swipes you actually get
16:51a page view as well for this gallery now just to go and show you really quick um you can go like i said
16:59to shutterstock um if you have that login and you need to get some images that are maybe a little bit
17:05more different than actually um pulling something from getty during an event but you just log in and i'm
17:13just going to search just because it happens to be on my mind but toys um and if you wanted to use
17:21this image right of this dinosaur um make sure again that um you download it properly the right
17:29sizing but right here at the bottom is where that photographer's credit is so you would just copy this
17:38and you can go i'm just going to use it on a test image but you can go to the image and right here at
17:46the attribution you would do by peter slash shutterstock a lot of times too um people if they don't have
17:56uh the credited would just do shutterstock as well but again just make sure you always give that um
18:03credit to the user and that is how you guys make a photo gallery so have fun enjoy and get those page views
