00:00Disturbing photographs and reports from Banu State on Thursday evening indicated that suspected herdsmen have taken control of Cheeto community in Oocam local government area of the state, with some photographs made available online showed the suspected armed herdsmen patrolling the Cheeto main market and the divisional police headquarters, and the residents in the area appeared to have scampard for safety.
00:23It was gathered that the armed herdsmen started moving in droves on Wednesday evening into the local government area that have witnessed series of attacks and killings previously.
00:34Prince Tayodulavinus on his Facebook post on Wednesday evening wrote and stated that,
00:39Hundreds of well-armed herdsmen are still arriving at Cheeto in Oocam, brandishing their weapons, government will not do anything till the attack will be launched successfully and the governor will detail his deputy to visit the area.
00:51Wontoreg Ikiata on his ex-social media profile on Thursday evening, tweeted with photographs of the armed herdsmen patrolling the Cheeto community and said thus,
01:02This is Cheeto, a small town in Oocam local government area of Banu State today.
01:08Since yesterday, the bandits stormed the village in their numbers, doing anything they like.
01:14If you try to stop them, they will shoot and kill you, then more will come at night to finish the job.
01:20Banu is under siege.
01:22Our lives are in danger this evening.
01:25Armed Fulani herdsmen, about 600 in numbers have taken over our communities this evening, a resident stated as reported by Sahara Reporters.
01:34They're currently moving around towns in Oocam local government area of Banu State.
01:39No security personnel at all, Governor Alia didn't send security.
01:44They said the operation will start soon once they, herders, have observed the place.
01:50Armed men suspected to be herdsmen had attacked three communities in a Tukpo local government area on Wednesday,
01:57barely a day after 11 people were killed in a deadly raid on a Toby community.
02:01The latest victims of the escalating violence were Amiki, Odadajay, and Ogpamaju,
02:08communities that had previously suffered an attack in February, which left five people dead.
02:13However, the renewed attack has created fear and mass displacement among residents,
02:19with women and children fleeing to safety.
02:22Banu State Governor, Hyacinth Alia in a statement a few days ago stated that,
02:27I am deeply committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of our people.
02:31Our state has faced increased security challenges in recent times,
02:36with targeted attacks on specific local government areas,
02:39including Kwande, Oocam, Katsinarela, Logo, GW West, Atukpo, Agatu etc.
02:47The people in these areas have endured unimaginable hardship,
02:51and it's time for us to take decisive action.
02:53The Banu State Governor in an earlier statement during the week,
02:58said the Nigeria Chief of Defense Staff, General Christopher Moussa,
03:02has sent delegations to the state as an advisory security team
03:06to assess the security situation in the state.
03:09The Governor said in quote,
03:11Yesterday, I had an interactive session with the advisory team
03:15sent by the Chief of Defense Staff, General Christopher Moussa,
03:19to assess the security situation in the state,
03:21held at the Government House, McCurdy.
03:24As part of our ongoing efforts to combat insecurity,
03:28I am pleased to announce that Banu State will be convening a security summit
03:32aimed at finding lasting solutions to the security challenges facing our communities.
03:38This summit will bring together key stakeholders from both the public and private sectors
03:43as we work collaboratively to protect our people and restore peace in our state.
03:47I want to assure the people of Banu that we are fully committed to ending these senseless killings
03:53and the displacement of our people.
03:55In addition to the upcoming summit,
03:58I am currently in discussions with my fellow governors in the North Central region
04:02to organize a North Central Security Summit,
04:05aimed at further strengthening our collective efforts in addressing the security crisis affecting our region.
04:11I want to express my deepest gratitude to the CD's for his commitment to ensuring peace returns to Banu.
04:18I also urge the advisory team to extend their visit to our neighboring states of Taraba and Nasarawa,
04:25as we share borders and must work together to achieve lasting peace.
