00:00:00What would happen if there was a safety car now, and it would play lovely into Leclerc and Norris' hands, any safety car at this stage before they stop.
00:00:07Leclerc obviously in those 24 lap old medium tyres from the start of the race, and if I look at his pit window, it's just ahead. Do you want to talk to this replay, Croft?
00:00:16Well, yeah, Bortoletto just moving over to take that racing line.
00:00:21Wow, he moved under braking.
00:00:23Wow, that was close.
00:00:25Wow, so close.
00:00:26Check the car.
00:00:27So close to the safety car you were just talking about, Bernie.
00:00:30Yeah, exactly.
00:00:31A bit of a bone scraper almost there for Fernando Alonso down the side of the wall.
00:00:35Yeah, so I was just going to say Leclerc and Norris obviously would benefit from the safety car now.
00:00:40Leclerc's pit window is just ahead of Antonelli, and Antonelli isn't actually going any quicker than Leclerc at this stage.
00:00:46So there's also no push for Leclerc to pit, which is why he's extending this medium tyre further into the race than most others have done.
00:00:55Ferrari leading then with Charles Leclerc.
00:00:58Rando Norris second, having not pitted either of them.
00:01:02Piastri, the net leader, having pitted, Verstappen behind him, on board with Fernando Alonso, gets past Gabriel Bortoletto.
00:01:10And this time around, an awful lot easier.
00:01:12Bortoletto's been running those hard tyres right from the start, by the way, which is why he wasn't putting up too much in the fight.
00:01:18William Lawson, who has pitted.
00:01:20But so is Norris, hasn't he?
00:01:21So they're hanging on, on the McLaren, which probably is a little bit kinder on its tyres.
00:01:26And its driver knows somewhat more than Bortoletto, as does Norris, about how to look after the tyres.
00:01:34Just looking at the timing screens here, I think Max Verstappen has gently brought those hard tyres in now and is starting to feel the full benefits of them.
00:01:45He's lapping within a few hundredths of a second of Piastri.
00:01:49Trouble for him is he's four and a half seconds behind and he's got quite a gap to try and make up.
00:01:54He's in the 32s again, Piastri, Max Verstappen 33-0.
00:01:58So at the moment, Piastri has got what he needs to maintain that gap.
00:02:04They're slowly homing in on Lando Norris.
00:02:08It might be handy for McLaren to leave Norris out there for a while, actually.
00:02:12But they want to do the best race for him.
00:02:15And right now, if Norris pitted, he'd come out quite close to the back of George Russell.
00:02:20But he needs a bigger tyre offset than that.
00:02:22I'll tell you what is interesting as well.
00:02:23Lando Norris, because of that crash in Q3, has a new set of soft compound tyres that he could run right at the end of this race.
00:02:31Say there were ten laps to go and they felt that was a good time to pit him.
00:02:34They could put him on the softs.
00:02:36Yeah, possibly.
00:02:38Verstappen, three tenths of a second up in the first sector on this lap.
00:02:42He's getting on with it now.
00:02:43As is Oli Behrman, down in 17th, getting past the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto,
00:02:50two of the six rookies that we've got in Formula One this season.
00:02:55They would have been racing against each other, of course, in F2 last year, which Bortoleto won.
00:03:00And on this particular weekend, the weekend of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix,
00:03:04Oli Behrman took pole for the F2 feature race and then lost two points because he couldn't take it
00:03:09because he was driving a Ferrari instead when Carlos Sainz had his appendix out.
00:03:13He was team-mate to this man, Charles Leclerc, who leads by just over three seconds from Lando Norris.
00:03:20And out in front, the gap pretty much staying the same here.
00:03:23Leclerc doing a very fine job on those medium tyres.
00:03:27He is.
00:03:28Lando on the hard compound tyre that looked the favourites, but at the moment,
00:03:32and he'll have to go on to the mediums, of course.
00:03:35But as we say, track rubbered in a bit, fuel load more than halved.
00:03:40So I think it'll be a better tyre for him towards the end of the race.
00:03:45He needs that big offset.
00:03:46He needs to go as far as he can to give himself.
00:03:49That's what these two are doing out there now, waiting for the safety car.
00:03:53If not, get as far as you can and give yourself some fresher tyres in the closing stages.
00:03:57Charles Leclerc leading then, the man that's finished on the podium in 2022 here and 2024,
00:04:04and has finished seventh in 21 and 23.
00:04:06So when it's an odd-numbered year, he finishes seventh.
00:04:09And when it's an even-numbered year, he finished on the podium.
00:04:10Let's hope that comes to an end, that particular run this evening.
00:04:14Lawson gets past Doohan, and Sainz gets past Hülkenberg, and back up into the top ten.
00:04:20Lawson got a bit deep.
00:04:21Yeah, he did.
00:04:22Jack Doohan wants to try and fight that one back a little bit.
00:04:24And right behind these two, Fernando Alonso waiting to try and pounce.
00:04:30Alonso's team-mate, Lance Stroll, running ninth.
00:04:33Hülkenberg running tenth.
00:04:34They haven't pitted yet.
00:04:36Hadja runs sixth.
00:04:37He hasn't pitted yet.
00:04:39Leclerc and Norris out in front haven't pitted,
00:04:41and we lost Sonoda and Gasly at turn four on the opening lap.
00:04:45And this is how Carlos Sainz got past Nico Hülkenberg.
00:04:49Expect to see at least one of the Williams in the points tonight, don't we?
00:04:52Yeah.
00:04:53Norris gets his first track, his first track limits?
00:04:57I think it is his first track limit, isn't it, for Lando Norris?
00:05:01Yes.
00:05:02Lawson going a little bit too deep.
00:05:05But he wanted to make sure he didn't get a track limit violation.
00:05:08It's as Isaac Hadja, who I've been mentioning,
00:05:11now has Kimi Antonelli right behind him,
00:05:14after Antonelli pitted for a fresh set of boots.
00:05:18It's George Russell and the other Mercedes making any gains on Verstappen?
00:05:22Not currently at the moment, Verstappen and Piastri, the two drivers lapping in the 1 minute 32s.
00:05:29And as I said, you know, a few hundredths per lap, tenth maybe, on another lap between the two drivers.
00:05:35It's great work from Leclerc and Norris up front, still in the low 1 minute 33s.
00:05:40Piastri and Verstappen with fresh tyres in the late 1 minute 32s,
00:05:45but it's fast enough out front at the moment as they, if they can keep this pace up for another ten laps.
00:05:55Certainly five.
00:05:56Yeah, we're on lap 29 of 50.
00:05:58The race lap record here at 1.30.7 set by Lewis Hamilton last year,
00:06:03we've been talking about the tyres going a step softer.
00:06:06The lap times are not giving us the fastest race that we probably expected here around Jeddah,
00:06:13so maybe there's a bit of tyre management going on out there.
00:06:15Yeah, and also it's later in the year, isn't it?
00:06:18It's quite a bit warmer than we're, it's probably, what, five weeks later than last year?
00:06:22Yeah, it's the first time we've run here in April.
00:06:25This is Fernando Alonso making his move on Jack Dunn.
00:06:30And into the pits comes Charles Leclerc.
00:06:34So, the Ferrari crew get to work.
00:06:37That was beautiful.
00:06:38From the team there, all four tyres taken off, put back on, two seconds, have some of that.
00:06:44That's about it.
00:06:45That shout, Formula One, harder than anything else, shout Formula One.
00:06:4926 people around a car, in, up, off, on, down, go, 2.0, superb.
00:06:58Kimi Antonelli on the main straight, getting past Isaac Hadjian, moving up into sixth place.
00:07:04And if you're thinking on Bank Holiday Monday, back in the UK tomorrow, of going and getting your tyres changed,
00:07:10challenge the people doing it to a two-second stop.
00:07:13Stop.
00:07:14See if there's anyone that can come up trumps on that one and let me know if they do.
00:07:19Apologies if you're a tyre fitter and I've just given you a little bit too much stress for a Bank Holiday, but...
00:07:24So, what have we got going on here?
00:07:26You've got Antonelli currently in seventh place, seven seconds ahead of Lewis Hamilton.
00:07:33And, uh, Norris still then, low 33s, good time.
00:07:42He might just do a personal best on this lap as well.
00:07:44Norris bringing himself into play here for a really good fight with, I believe, Russell and Leclerc.
00:07:53And Norris really putting himself in with a chance of a podium here.
00:07:57He's, uh, obviously, Isaac Hadjian's got a pit.
00:08:00Antonelli has already pitted.
00:08:02He's cleared the Mercedes quite comfortably in terms of where he comes out after a pit stop.
00:08:08And, well, maybe those soft tyres might get used tonight.
00:08:11We shall see.
00:08:12Karun Chandor.
00:08:13Yeah, thank you, Crofty.
00:08:14If Norris pits, he, he, now, in the next couple of laps,
00:08:18he'd come out about seven seconds behind George Russell.
00:08:20But, even if he goes on the medium Crofty, which is what I think he will use,
00:08:25I think he'll have a good advantage because Russell, Verstappen, Hamilton,
00:08:30all complaining about the hard tyre not really giving them the grip that they want.
00:08:34So, Norris, I think you're absolutely right, could be in with a real chance of a podium here.
00:08:40Uh, Carlos Sainz, meanwhile, chasing Lance Stroll and getting DRS assistance to do just that.
00:08:47Pulls out to the left-hand side.
00:08:48This will be an easy overtake for Carlos Sainz.
00:08:52And up into ninth place he goes.
00:08:54Uh, into turn one where we saw Liam Lawson get past Jack Doohan,
00:08:57and that has been noted by the race director.
00:09:00So the stewards might look at that.
00:09:01A little bit further back, here's Oli Behrman on Jack Doohan.
00:09:05And has he just nosed ahead going into that corner?
00:09:08He has.
00:09:09Doohan's going to try and fight it.
00:09:11Behrman should have better acceleration out of the corner and does so.
00:09:15Behrman has been on those tyres for 12 laps and Doohan for 29.
00:09:18If you remember, during the safety car, Doohan was one of three drivers that came in for a pit stop.
00:09:22Yeah, and they don't look much like they want to do the rest of the entire distance, do they, on that car of Jack Doohan.
00:09:28So, Norris then has just done the fastest first sector of the entire Grand Prix.
00:09:33Uh, and does a 32-9.
00:09:36And he's very little slower than Oscar Piastri at this stage.
00:09:40So, cracking pace up front, but Verstappen even faster.
00:09:45Let's just have a little look again.
00:09:47Here's Oli Behrman on, uh, Jack Doohan.
00:09:49Yeah, the, uh, it was worth taking the gamble, uh, for Doohan to, to come in early.
00:09:53But, in all honesty, it's not a gamble that has, uh, really worked out for him.
00:09:58As you rightly say, Martin, those tyres aren't going to do the rest of this race.
00:10:01Uh, good driving there from the pair of them, you know.
00:10:04No scuffles, no bodywork damage.
00:10:06Well, did Antonelli hit the wall there? I think he did.
00:10:09Especially, he did.
00:10:11Um, yeah, uh, you know, good hard racing, uh, between Behrman and Doohan there.
00:10:18Kimi Antonelli running in sixth place, where he, uh, finished in both of the F2 races here in Jeddah last year.
00:10:25Some DRS for Lance Stroll behind Alex Albon, but Stroll now out of the points,
00:10:31and both Williams cars into the points, because of this move by Albon.
00:10:36And into the final corner we go.
00:10:42And he's got DRS and a much better grip.
00:10:45Engine, the V6 engine singing its head off there.
00:10:48And, uh, watch Leclerc then. He is absolutely flying.
00:10:54George Russell's going to have to watch out here.
00:10:56He is. George Russell's mirrors are going to turn red.
00:10:59Currently in fourth place, uh, George Russell, but he is by far the slowest of the top five drivers.
00:11:06And where's the prediction? Three laps time.
00:11:09Charles Leclerc will be right on him for fourth place.
00:11:13Now McLaren have to keep, uh, think about Leclerc's place now,
00:11:17because that's just moved the game on a little bit,
00:11:18in terms of what they do with Norris out front.
00:11:23Another fastest lap for Leclerc.
00:11:25Two and a half seconds, the gap between George Russell and Charles Leclerc.
00:11:30And these two comfortably ahead of Kimi Antonelli, currently running in sixth place.
00:11:35Verstappen on the last lap was, uh, a few milliseconds faster than Oscar Piastri.
00:11:41He seems to be, uh, managing his tyres, maintaining his pace,
00:11:45and doing exactly what the team wanted, uh, once again,
00:11:49and very much has the upper hand in this battle currently.
00:11:52We're watching Liam Lawson and Esteban Ocon ahead of him.
00:11:56Uh, if you're joining us all the time, Verstappen with a five-second penalty,
00:12:00which is how he has lost the advantage, uh, to Oscar Piastri during the pit stop.
00:12:06The one pit stop that they've made.
00:12:07Lawson gets past Ocon and up into, uh, 13th place.
00:12:11And while some might feel the penalty was lenient, some might feel it harsh.
00:12:16Lando's plan is to keep extending something like the plan C target plus four for him.
00:12:21Yep, I think I'm starting to, you know, do the air a little bit.
00:12:24It's, uh, it's not ideal for me at the moment.
00:12:28But it is clear that that five-second penalty, uh, has enabled Piastri to get ahead of the Stammer.
00:12:34Yeah, so what Piastri's saying there, look, if Lando extends,
00:12:37I'm 2.7 behind him now on fresher tyres.
00:12:40He's beginning to interrupt my race, although he's 4.7 seconds clear of Verstappen at this time.
00:12:46But, but something that, uh, Alex Albon said in, uh, qualifying is,
00:12:52I should have been out with the other cars.
00:12:53You get a flow of air going around the walls of a circuit,
00:12:57like a high-speed walled street circuit like this,
00:13:00that actually you get carried.
00:13:02I think it was a fascinating comment of, yeah, go along in it.
00:13:06But you don't want to be too close that you're actually going in the turbulent air.
00:13:10Which is a different story again.
00:13:11Yeah, kind of like a, a current if you're going diving.
00:13:14Yeah.
00:13:14A current sweeping you along.
00:13:16Really heard of that before.
00:13:17Yeah.
00:13:18Normally, drivers do not want to be in that dirty, turbulent air.
00:13:23So the Clare's just done a third, 32.4.
00:13:27It's absolutely flying.
00:13:29Certainly likes these tyres at the moment.
00:13:31So we're on board with the car at number 30, Liam Lawson.
00:13:35And he sees, uh, pitting ahead of him, uh, Nico Hülkenberg.
00:13:41It's always lovely when that happens.
00:13:42You're shaping up for a squabble.
00:13:44That is Fernando Alonso.
00:13:48And getting past Esteban Ocon.
00:13:52Two former teammates.
00:13:53Yes.
00:13:54Uh, wouldn't say they were best of friends as former teammates as well.
00:13:57That for those two is a fairly nice, comfortable pass with no problems.
00:14:00Here we go then for Lando Norris.
00:14:02And he's just making his way around the final corner now with Oscar Fiastri right behind him.
00:14:07And McLaren might have just timed this, uh, absolutely superbly.
00:14:11And they want to get Lando Norris back into this race ahead of Antonelli behind Charles Leclerc.
00:14:16Lock up there as he comes into the pits.
00:14:19Ooh, hope you've got that slowed down enough there, Lando.
00:14:21And he slows down onto his marks.
00:14:23On go the rear tyres.
00:14:24Out goes Lando Norris.
00:14:25Looked like two and a half seconds.
00:14:26And it was, uh, two and a half seconds.
00:14:28So, uh, Leclerc goes through past the start-finish line.
00:14:33Antonelli just out of the final corner.
00:14:36Now you'll see him coming into view in a couple of moments' time.
00:14:40But Lando Norris is a long way clear.
00:14:42Fifth fastest.
00:14:43Their fifth place now for him.
00:14:45And racing to the end.
00:14:51Did he get it slowed down?
00:14:52Uh, he was on the limiter.
00:14:53He was on the limiter, wasn't he?
00:14:55But did he breach the pit?
00:15:02Did he breach?
00:15:03I don't think so.
00:15:04Did he breach the...
00:15:05He definitely had all four wheels over the white line.
00:15:09But it's the white line on the way into the pits and on the way out of the pits we're normally observing, isn't it?
00:15:14As Lando Norris pits running the hard tyre right from the start, so does Isaac Hadja.
00:15:20And that leaves Lance Stroll as the only driver who hasn't pitted so far in this race.
00:15:26Hadja back out just ahead of Lance Stroll in tenth.
00:15:29And seemingly on a decent strategy tonight, so he can race hard towards the end and challenge maybe Albon and Carlos Sainz.
00:15:39Charles Leclerc now one and a half second gap to George Russell.
00:15:44And to be honest, the time is now irrelevant because he can see George Russell ahead of him.
00:15:50As Gabriel Bortoleto is shown a black and white flag for moving under braking.
00:15:54And that was the move that nearly put his manager, Fernando Alonso, into the wall.
00:15:58Yeah.
00:15:59Yes, he did move under braking, didn't he?
00:16:00I don't think he realised he was in close combat.
00:16:03He wasn't in combat, really, was he?
00:16:04But Fernando Alonso had had such an incredible double slipstream.
00:16:09He came up alongside them.
00:16:10And Bortoleto just hadn't noticed.
00:16:13And Leclerc at 1.32, 3.90 this time.
00:16:17And that is why he's really beginning to feel the mirrors of the mark.
00:16:21Out in front, Oscar Piastri now leads this race.
00:16:25Max Verstappen, four and a half seconds at the end of lap 35 behind him.
00:16:31And Piastri with a faster lap on lap 35.
00:16:34What has Verstappen got to try and challenge Piastri for this win tonight?
00:16:39What has George Russell got to try and defend against Charles Leclerc?
00:16:43And what has Lando Norris got behind the top four to try and get his car onto the podium come the chequered flag?
00:16:50Yeah, if Norris wants to be on the podium, he's the driver of his life now.
00:16:53He's got the fresh, medium compound tyres.
00:16:56A decent offset.
00:16:57I mean, Piastri's been on his 16 laps, his hard compound.
00:17:02Verstappen 14.
00:17:04Antonelli 16.
00:17:05But, of course, Lando just out of the pits on his fresh mediums.
00:17:11And as you say that, just set in the fastest middle sector of the race so far.
00:17:16Freddy Vasseur on the Ferrari pit wall.
00:17:18The Ferrari boss looks a little concerned currently.
00:17:22And I'm not surprised.
00:17:23Lewis Hamilton saying on the radio, why am I struggling on these tyres so much?
00:17:26He's really not finding the grip that he wants out there.
00:17:30And currently in seventh place.
00:17:33Although lapping slightly faster than Kimi Antonelli on the last lap.
00:17:37Yeah, Lewis has been pretty much second a lap slower on these tyres, though, than Charles Leclerc.
00:17:41He's obviously enjoying them much more.
00:17:44Charles Leclerc.
00:17:45Now, this is where he starts to get really affected by the Mercedes out in front.
00:17:50And this is where he'll find George Russell is quite a stubborn obstacle to try and get past.
00:17:55Defence is something George Russell is particularly adept at.
00:17:59Well, Leclerc's pretty adept at overtaking as well when he's in the mood.
00:18:05And he looks very much in the mood, doesn't he?
00:18:07He's really slinging that Ferrari around.
00:18:09He's on a mission.
00:18:10Certainly is.
00:18:11Liam Lawson on a mission with Lance Stroll to try and clear the one remaining car that hasn't pitted in this race.
00:18:19I'm sure Aston Martin holding out as long as they can for a safety car that might just give them a bit of track position.
00:18:27That, their strategy to go as long as they possibly can on those hard compound tyres that he has run for 36 laps, currently on lap 37.
00:18:38Yeah, so, uh, under investigation, Lawson and Dewan, what did they get up to down into turn one?
00:18:45That was Lawson going deep, wasn't it, when he overtook Dewan.
00:18:47Lawson very deep, but I thought he managed to stay on the track, did he not?
00:18:51Anyway, it's now, uh, under investigation.
00:18:53Here's DRS for Charles Leclerc, he is right on the gearbox of George Russell, but on the right side of the gearbox of George Russell,
00:19:02because he gets another double dose here of DRS down the straight.
00:19:06He's timed it absolutely perfectly.
00:19:08He's getting the slipstream too, and Charles Leclerc, who has been charging after Russell now,
00:19:13ever since the pit stop, back ahead of the Mercedes and onto the podium.
00:19:17Top three, Piastri, Verstappen, and now Leclerc.
00:19:21Now, rest new faster's lap, but it's only a tenth faster than Leclerc on that previous lap,
00:19:26although Leclerc got a lovely slipstream down the pit straight and plenty of DRS.
00:19:30So, uh, Leclerc now setting off after...
00:19:34Is he setting off after Verstappen's seven seconds?
00:19:38Ooh, let's see.
00:19:40Well, to be honest, it is doable if he can keep up this pace.
00:19:43Well done, Charles.
00:19:46Thank you, Brian.
00:19:49Words of wisdom.
00:19:51The Charles and Brian show, ladies and gentlemen.
00:19:54Here in Jeddah tonight, Brian Bozzi, his race engineer.
00:19:58You have to feel a bit for Pierre Gasly, involved in a tangle with Yuki Tsunoda,
00:20:02and both drivers out by turn four, and that is Brian Bozzi there.
00:20:07Is he reacting to seeing his face on the screen,
00:20:10or has he seen something else that we don't know about yet?
00:20:12I think he's looking at some data.
00:20:15So, Lawson gets a ten-second penalty for leaving the track and gaining an advantage.
00:20:22I'm not sure what you saw.
00:20:23We didn't really see him go off the track, did we?
00:20:25We saw him, the scuffle.
00:20:28But anyway, the stewards have looked at all the video,
00:20:31all the angles, and all the data from the cars.
00:20:34So, Lando, you were leading the World Championship.
00:20:39Let's see what you can do from here.
00:20:41P5.
00:20:43And he's got 2.4 seconds to George Russell,
00:20:46and catching him at a feral rate of knots.
00:20:49Yep, he's repaired some of the damage done from the qualifying crash yesterday.
00:20:55Started P10, now running in fifth place.
00:20:58He's going to lose the championship lead, though,
00:21:00if it stays the way it is tonight.
00:21:02And Oscar Piastri is going to take over that championship lead.
00:21:06We're on lap 39 of 50.
00:21:09Piastri leads from Verstappen.
00:21:10Here is our race leader, Charles de Clare in third.
00:21:13It's like a red flashing flag on a balcony into St. Jan.
00:21:19It's really annoying.
00:21:20It's identical to a red flag.
00:21:23Copy, we'll report.
00:21:25Send someone round, a knock on the door.
00:21:27I'm amazed what the drivers can pick up sometimes in these night races.
00:21:32Stroll's about to be overtaken by Alonso,
00:21:34and he's helping Alonso with a bit of DRS as well.
00:21:37There he goes through to take 12th place.
00:21:40And Charles de Clare, by the way, running third for a Ferrari team
00:21:44yet to finish on the podium in 2025.
00:21:47They've had a sprint race win with Lewis Hamilton,
00:21:49but no podium in a Grand Prix so far this year.
00:21:54So that's very observable.
00:21:56I know exactly what he means about annoying things.
00:21:59Sometimes you could see a fan in a big yellow jacket
00:22:02moving around on the side of the track.
00:22:04You think there's a yellow flag.
00:22:05He says that looks a bit...
00:22:07I think you're being sort of annoyed.
00:22:11The other day, my medium is never going to pass us.
00:22:14If you want me, I do it,
00:22:16but we have plenty of pace to pull away now.
00:22:19We'd like first to get Alex in our DRS,
00:22:22and once in the DRS, we use our pace.
00:22:24Go, big.
00:22:26So Alex Albon with more pace than his teammate
00:22:29to overtake his teammate
00:22:31and then to use that pace
00:22:33and keep his teammate within DRS
00:22:35to drag them through a bit faster.
00:22:37That's not how I understood it.
00:22:39It's like, let Alex get in your DRS,
00:22:42then the pair of you set off
00:22:45down the road as fast as you can.
00:22:47I think they need to protect a bit from Isaac Hadja.
00:22:50Yeah, that's what I mean.
00:22:51They want Albon to get Sainz's DRS
00:22:53and drag him away from Hadja.
00:22:56Now, the race director, Rui Marquez,
00:22:58has noted Fernando Alonso
00:23:00for his entry into the pit lane.
00:23:03Yeah, Lando Norris.
00:23:04Lando Norris for his entry into the pits.
00:23:08Oh, I'm sorry, pit exit.
00:23:10He did go very, very close to the white line
00:23:14on the pit exit.
00:23:15I noticed that.
00:23:16But we were looking from the side.
00:23:19Yeah.
00:23:19If he kept a bit of tyre on it, he's OK.
00:23:22But on the pit exit,
00:23:23I did notice that he was very far over
00:23:25to the right-hand side.
00:23:28And we worried about his pit entry as well.
00:23:31Yeah, where he definitely crossed the line.
00:23:33There we go, Lando.
00:23:34With George Russell just ahead of him
00:23:36and not by much.
00:23:37and after his three goes
00:23:40to get past Lewis Hamilton,
00:23:42when Hamilton had the DRS
00:23:43out of that final corner
00:23:45and took the place back again,
00:23:47Lando Norris has got an absolute spot on
00:23:49this time around
00:23:50and clears George Russell with ease
00:23:52and up now into fourth place.
00:23:54He might be getting himself
00:23:55a five-second penalty yet, Lando Norris,
00:23:58so he needs to get off down the road
00:24:00if he wants to keep that fourth place
00:24:02from George Russell.
00:24:04Meanwhile, just watching here,
00:24:07Sainz and Albon,
00:24:08they are both in the...
00:24:10Well, Sainz is now in a zone
00:24:12where Albon has got the DRS
00:24:14and he can let him through
00:24:15and the Haas team are swapping positions.
00:24:18Ocon and Behrman
00:24:19who are running different strategies here.
00:24:21Ocon has been on those tyres
00:24:23for 38 laps now
00:24:24because he was one of the three
00:24:25that pitted under the safety car.
00:24:28This is the dilemma Williams have got.
00:24:30Sainz ahead of Albon,
00:24:32ahead of Hadja.
00:24:33Yeah, so he's giving Albon DRS
00:24:36because Hadja's got DRS
00:24:38against the back of Albon,
00:24:40so it's team play with Mercedes.
00:24:43Will it get the job done?
00:24:45Really, really important points
00:24:48that Williams could be scoring here
00:24:50going ahead of Haas
00:24:52and up into fifth
00:24:53in the Constructors' Championship
00:24:55if they can keep these positions,
00:24:58if they can keep their current
00:25:008th and 9th.
00:25:02Norris sets off after Leclerc
00:25:03then he's got 4.3 seconds
00:25:05to find against the back of the Ferrari
00:25:07but the Ferrari is fast.
00:25:09Norris is about to do
00:25:10another fastest lap of the Grand Prix.
00:25:13Out in front
00:25:14for a second weekend running.
00:25:17Oscar Piastri is looking at victory
00:25:19in a Grand Prix
00:25:20from Bahrain to Jeddah.
00:25:22didn't start on pole this weekend
00:25:25but now he's taken the lead.
00:25:28He's taking full advantage of it
00:25:29and looks fairly comfortable
00:25:32although on the last lap
00:25:34Max Verstappen was
00:25:354 tenths of a second faster.
00:25:38So has Verstappen saved his best
00:25:40till last as he did
00:25:42for qualifying yesterday?
00:25:44Norris,
00:25:45half a second quicker
00:25:46on the last lap
00:25:47than Charles Leclerc.
00:25:48and he's got the gap now
00:25:49down to about
00:25:50three and a half seconds.
00:25:51It's the battle
00:25:52that we're seeing now.
00:25:54Sainz, Albon, Hadja
00:25:558th, 9th and 10th.
00:25:57Liam Lawson
00:25:58started to gain a bit
00:26:00on his teammate
00:26:01but only about
00:26:02three or four tenths
00:26:03a second a lap.
00:26:05And that DRS
00:26:06is really helping
00:26:07Alex Albon
00:26:08stay ahead
00:26:08and just ahead
00:26:10going into turn one.
00:26:11Yeah, Hadja
00:26:12fainting a bit of a move
00:26:14trying to distract his rival.
00:26:15Fair enough.
00:26:16as long as you don't start
00:26:18wasting time yourself
00:26:19or hurting your own tyres
00:26:21but great drive
00:26:22from Isaac Hadja
00:26:24Norris
00:26:25and his teammate
00:26:25just five seconds
00:26:26up the road.
00:26:27Now this is the pit exit
00:26:28for Lando Norris.
00:26:31OK there.
00:26:33It's when he gets out
00:26:34here
00:26:36is he allowed
00:26:37to cross that line?
00:26:38No, it's this right hand line.
00:26:41He was on it.
00:26:43He's got a bit of tyre
00:26:45on it, hasn't he?
00:26:46He's all right there, isn't he?
00:26:49He's got tyre on it.
00:26:51Yeah, but did part of that tyre
00:26:52go over the line?
00:26:55That's what the stewards
00:26:55are going to be looking at there.
00:26:57That white and blue line
00:26:59I think you're obliged
00:27:00to stay
00:27:01to the left of it
00:27:03and not cross it
00:27:04at any stage
00:27:05because you're
00:27:05coming out onto the track
00:27:07where another car could be.
00:27:08I thought as long as you've got tyre
00:27:11on the line
00:27:12you're OK
00:27:12and you don't
00:27:13completely cross the line.
00:27:15They're going to have to look at that
00:27:16extremely closely.
00:27:18And Lando
00:27:19is now five seconds clear
00:27:21of George Russell
00:27:22in fifth.
00:27:24And if he gets
00:27:25a five second penalty
00:27:25that's what he needs
00:27:27to be doing
00:27:27to protect fourth
00:27:28but he fancies
00:27:29a run at third
00:27:30doesn't he?
00:27:32Swap the positions
00:27:33at Salva
00:27:33Vortoleto and Hulkenberg
00:27:35Vortoleto lets
00:27:36Hulkenberg through
00:27:37and once again
00:27:39Carlos Sainz
00:27:40helps out Alex Albon
00:27:42and thwarts
00:27:44Isaac Hadja.
00:27:45Let's get a Skyrace
00:27:46control.
00:27:47Bernie Collins
00:27:47has got the race
00:27:48director's event notes
00:27:50open in front of her
00:27:51including a very important
00:27:53paragraph
00:27:53from McLaren
00:27:54and Lando Norris.
00:27:55Yes
00:27:56always to hand
00:27:56cross you
00:27:57as you can imagine
00:27:58with full regulations
00:27:59but it does say
00:28:00that they must follow
00:28:00procedures at pit entry
00:28:01and pit exit
00:28:02and then it lists
00:28:03the line that they need
00:28:04to be fully
00:28:05as you say
00:28:05to the left hand side of
00:28:06and that includes
00:28:07the entry line
00:28:08and that exit line
00:28:09on board it was
00:28:11very very difficult
00:28:11to see
00:28:12but on that replay
00:28:13I do think
00:28:14that that right hand
00:28:15front tyre
00:28:16is too far across
00:28:17and touching that
00:28:18white line and exit
00:28:19but guess what
00:28:20as you were talking
00:28:21the stewards have said
00:28:23no further investigation
00:28:25of course
00:28:25the commentator there
00:28:26isn't it?
00:28:27Yeah
00:28:27because he had
00:28:28he had tyre tread
00:28:29on it
00:28:30he didn't completely
00:28:31cross it
00:28:32so I think he got away
00:28:34with that
00:28:34just about
00:28:35so game on then
00:28:36for a third place
00:28:38squabble
00:28:39with Charles Leclerc
00:28:41who's actually
00:28:42homing in on
00:28:44Verstappen as well
00:28:44a dozen seconds
00:28:46covers the top four
00:28:47what I would say
00:28:48is the stewards
00:28:49have static cameras
00:28:50that they can use
00:28:51that we can't see
00:28:51and would have had
00:28:53the perfect view
00:28:54from that static camera
00:28:55to see
00:28:55where that tyre was
00:28:57that's Giampiero
00:28:58Lambiassi
00:28:59sporting a
00:29:00a new trim
00:29:01he always has short hair
00:29:03but it looks even shorter
00:29:04here at the moment
00:29:05unless
00:29:06why he's looking
00:29:06concerned
00:29:07unless Max
00:29:07has got some pace
00:29:08Leclerc
00:29:09definitely
00:29:11and Norris
00:29:13maybe
00:29:13won't be too far away
00:29:15from Verstappen's gearbox
00:29:16at the end of the Grand Prix
00:29:17converging at the end
00:29:18Leclerc on the last lap
00:29:19nine tenths of a second
00:29:20faster
00:29:21but he is
00:29:21five and a bit
00:29:22seconds further back
00:29:24and Lando Norris
00:29:25keeping up that pace
00:29:27against Charles Leclerc
00:29:29on board
00:29:30with Lewis Hamilton
00:29:31still down in seven
00:29:33I said a while back
00:29:34he was
00:29:35trying to
00:29:36he was gaining a bit
00:29:37on Kimi Antonelli
00:29:38and he's brought that gap
00:29:39down a little bit now
00:29:40so that in two laps time
00:29:42he could be right there
00:29:43with Kimi Antonelli
00:29:44scrapping away for six
00:29:46yeah because Lewis has got his car now
00:29:47into the mid
00:29:48one minute 32s
00:29:49which is very competitive
00:29:50yeah
00:29:51and catching of course
00:29:52in his old car
00:29:54just up the roads
00:29:56yeah
00:29:56struggling for grip
00:29:57and struggling on those tyres
00:29:58now he's found
00:29:59the grip
00:30:00and now the tyres
00:30:01are in a decent working window
00:30:02Hamilton
00:30:02showing exactly
00:30:04what he can do
00:30:05so
00:30:06we've got a battle going on
00:30:07for
00:30:09podium places here
00:30:10we've got a battle going on
00:30:12for six
00:30:12and we've very much
00:30:13got a battle going on
00:30:14for eighth
00:30:15well ninth really
00:30:18Sainz protecting his teammate
00:30:19Alex Albon
00:30:20for a double
00:30:21Williams points finish
00:30:23potentially
00:30:24here at
00:30:25a track
00:30:26where they've never reached
00:30:27Q3
00:30:27or scored points
00:30:29in four
00:30:30previous Grand Prix
00:30:31on board
00:30:35with
00:30:35Isaac Hadja
00:30:36probably getting a bit
00:30:37fed up
00:30:38watching the rear wing
00:30:39of those two
00:30:39Williams cars
00:30:40almost certainly
00:30:41but also
00:30:41he's still
00:30:42in a world championship
00:30:43point scoring position
00:30:44he does not need
00:30:45to wipe that
00:30:46racing bull out
00:30:47against the side
00:30:48of a Williams
00:30:49so
00:30:49if he does it
00:30:51it's got to be
00:30:51clean and clinical
00:30:52getting the benefit
00:30:54of those medium tyres
00:30:55currently
00:30:56and I think
00:30:56his pit stop
00:30:57was a little slow
00:30:58as well
00:30:59for Isaac Hadja
00:31:01it might have
00:31:02got him ahead
00:31:03of the Williams
00:31:03had they
00:31:05managed to
00:31:05increase the pit stop
00:31:07pace by about
00:31:08a second
00:31:09we've lost two drivers
00:31:10from this race
00:31:11Gasly
00:31:11and Sunoda
00:31:13right at the start
00:31:14we've had a safety car
00:31:15keeping up the
00:31:16100% record
00:31:17of a safety car
00:31:18every year we come
00:31:20to Jeddah
00:31:21every lap
00:31:22that goes around
00:31:24is another lap
00:31:24where these drivers
00:31:26thread these
00:31:27Formula 1 cars
00:31:28in between
00:31:29the concrete walls
00:31:30which are never
00:31:31far away
00:31:32Antonelli leading
00:31:33the battle
00:31:34of the rookie drivers
00:31:35once again
00:31:36Antonelli
00:31:37who started this race
00:31:39in 6th place
00:31:40needs to get out of the way
00:31:42in the championship
00:31:44and who is Oscar Piastri
00:31:45saying needs to get out
00:31:47of the way
00:31:47Stroll
00:31:48and Stroll
00:31:49and Portoletto
00:31:50yeah
00:31:50that's as
00:31:52that's as edgy
00:31:54and nervy
00:31:55as you ever hear
00:31:56Oscar Piastri
00:31:57isn't it
00:31:57the trouble
00:31:58the trouble is though
00:31:59Stroll's just pitted
00:32:00he's only
00:32:01he's only been
00:32:01well 5 laps
00:32:03he's been out
00:32:04from the pit stop
00:32:05so he's actually
00:32:05got a decent pace
00:32:06and he's more than
00:32:08entitled to go and
00:32:08challenge the cars
00:32:09ahead of him
00:32:10because he's racing them
00:32:11he is
00:32:11but once the leader
00:32:12gets within 3 seconds
00:32:14then they have to
00:32:15start getting a warning
00:32:16and within a second
00:32:17and a half
00:32:18they have to get out
00:32:19of the way
00:32:20they're not doing that
00:32:22while all that's going on
00:32:23we're watching the
00:32:24Williams Racing Bulls
00:32:25battle once again
00:32:27but Lando Norris
00:32:29here we are
00:32:29getting very keen
00:32:30behind Charles Leclerc
00:32:32that gap now
00:32:33under 2 seconds
00:32:35on the last lap
00:32:36he was almost a second
00:32:37faster than Charles Leclerc
00:32:39those racy tyres
00:32:41those medium tyres
00:32:42that Lando Norris
00:32:44has now had on
00:32:44for 11 laps
00:32:45are suiting him
00:32:47very nicely indeed
00:32:49and Leclerc
00:32:49currently in 3rd place
00:32:51Ferrari without a podium
00:32:52this season
00:32:53might yet finish this race
00:32:55off the podium
00:32:56podium in a Grand Prix
00:32:57anyway they had the sprint
00:32:58win of course
00:32:59but absolutely
00:33:00Leclerc just had a bit
00:33:01of a scruffy lap
00:33:02the lap before this
00:33:03but he's better
00:33:04now at 1.32.4
00:33:06Norris
00:33:06at 1.32.3
00:33:08meanwhile Max Verstappen
00:33:10has just put in his
00:33:12fastest lap of the race
00:33:13that gap is now down
00:33:14to about 3 seconds
00:33:15as well
00:33:16so Piastri's now cleared
00:33:18the back markers
00:33:18and Verstappen
00:33:19has now got to get past
00:33:21those back markers
00:33:22yeah that's
00:33:23that's why the gap
00:33:24has come down out in front
00:33:25because of the back markers
00:33:26that Piastri
00:33:27very much wanted
00:33:28out of the way
00:33:29through goes Charles Leclerc
00:33:30through goes
00:33:32Lando Norris
00:33:33what do we used to say
00:33:34about Norris
00:33:35last lap Lando
00:33:36I wonder if there's
00:33:37a last lap Lando
00:33:38moment coming here tonight
00:33:39well
00:33:40he needed a champion's drive
00:33:42today Lando Norris
00:33:43and he certainly put
00:33:44a very very good drive in
00:33:46hasn't he
00:33:46this is the view
00:33:48that Lance Stroll had
00:33:49as he moved out of the way
00:33:50for Oscar Piastri
00:33:51and then he nips past
00:33:53Gabrielle Portoletto
00:33:54in the Sauber
00:33:56and onwards he goes
00:33:58and onwards
00:34:01he goes
00:34:03Charles Leclerc
00:34:04he's taken quite a lot
00:34:05out of those tyres
00:34:06hasn't he
00:34:06Charles
00:34:06he had some immense pace
00:34:08there for a while
00:34:08and Norris
00:34:10as you say
00:34:11his tyre's just 12 laps old
00:34:13and a little bit stickier
00:34:1417 laps
00:34:15for Leclerc
00:34:16a couple of tenths faster
00:34:18in the first sector
00:34:19on this lap
00:34:20Charles Leclerc
00:34:21ahead of Lando Norris
00:34:23down the main straight
00:34:25we go once more
00:34:26the gap was
00:34:271.8 seconds
00:34:28when they crossed the line
00:34:29to complete lap 47
00:34:31as they complete lap 48
00:34:33that gap is still
00:34:341.8 seconds
00:34:36which suggests to me
00:34:38that what Lando Norris
00:34:39has done
00:34:39is just recharged
00:34:40his batteries a bit
00:34:41on that last lap
00:34:42to now have a go
00:34:43on this lap
00:34:44and then recharge
00:34:46on lap 49
00:34:47and then really go
00:34:48for it on lap 50
00:34:49and this is where
00:34:50you have to be careful
00:34:51not attack the wall
00:34:52everybody's getting a bit
00:34:53hot sweaty
00:34:54and tired
00:34:55at this stage
00:34:56but these are world-class drivers
00:34:59you know what they've got to do
00:35:01they are pushing so hard
00:35:02aren't they just
00:35:03this one left is not looking good
00:35:06at all
00:35:07if you have any concerns
00:35:08about it getting to the end
00:35:10so I've got a band
00:35:11on the inside
00:35:12it's going on
00:35:13it's opening
00:35:14he's one second a lap
00:35:18slower than Antonelli
00:35:19and he's not worried
00:35:20about his pace so much
00:35:21as the tyre
00:35:21actually failing on him
00:35:23and not getting to the end
00:35:24yeah because if they pit him
00:35:25he'll lose two places
00:35:26so he's got to
00:35:27ease it over the line
00:35:29somehow
00:35:29Bernie Collins
00:35:30you're watching the
00:35:31on board
00:35:32how's it look to you
00:35:33yeah you can see
00:35:34on that front left tyre
00:35:35and he was watching
00:35:36the on board on the screen
00:35:37there's a very noticeable
00:35:38band
00:35:39just on the inside of that
00:35:40and it does look
00:35:41particularly worrying
00:35:42I do agree with George
00:35:44on that
00:35:44one second slower than Antonelli
00:35:46and this is the lap
00:35:47that Lando Norris
00:35:48is on the charge
00:35:48once again
00:35:49after recharging
00:35:51his battery
00:35:52Russell's told
00:35:53no tyre concerns
00:35:54at the moment
00:35:55he's taken four tenths
00:35:56out of Leclerc's advantage
00:35:57on this lap
00:35:58as we watch
00:36:00Oscar Piastri
00:36:00and Max Verstappen
00:36:02the gap between them
00:36:03three seconds out in front
00:36:04and as they cross the line
00:36:06Leclerc is 1.3 seconds
00:36:08ahead of Lando Norris
00:36:09who needs to find
00:36:10advantage from DRS
00:36:12on this lap
00:36:13he does
00:36:13two to go
00:36:14including this one
00:36:15Charles Leclerc
00:36:16who has been
00:36:18on his tyres
00:36:19for 19 laps
00:36:20his hard compound tyres
00:36:21Norris
00:36:22for 14 laps
00:36:23an absolutely sensational
00:36:25first stint
00:36:26going long
00:36:27on the hard compound tyres
00:36:28for Lando Norris
00:36:29has brought him
00:36:30into contention
00:36:30for a podium
00:36:31and it might yet be
00:36:32a double podium
00:36:33for McLaren
00:36:34going for a win
00:36:36at a 50th difference track
00:36:38in their Formula 1 history
00:36:40no constructor
00:36:40has ever done that before
00:36:42and it's looking fairly good
00:36:43out in front
00:36:44for Oscar Piastri
00:36:46despite the fact
00:36:47that Max Verstappen
00:36:48on this lap
00:36:48is finding pace
00:36:50but Piastri should have
00:36:51enough in hand
00:36:53and I'm sure
00:36:53everyone in Australia
00:36:55is keeping everything crossed
00:36:56for Oscar Piastri here
00:36:58because it could be
00:36:59for the first time
00:36:59since 2010
00:37:00that we have
00:37:01an Australian
00:37:02leading the
00:37:03Drivers' Championship
00:37:04and Piastri's got
00:37:06a Hulkenberg
00:37:07ahead of him as well
00:37:08still got some traffic
00:37:09and Ocon beyond that
00:37:10so it'll be
00:37:11a nervy last lap
00:37:13for Oscar Piastri
00:37:14just a tenth
00:37:15of a second difference
00:37:16on this lap
00:37:17between Charles Leclerc
00:37:18and Lando Norris
00:37:19and Leclerc too
00:37:20driving a super race
00:37:22here for Ferrari
00:37:23tonight
00:37:24Lando is going to
00:37:25have to do it all
00:37:25on the last lap
00:37:27which is starting
00:37:27now for Oscar Piastri
00:37:30there's Max Verstappen
00:37:31in the backgrounds
00:37:33the Aston Martin
00:37:34is a lap down
00:37:35then comes the Ferrari
00:37:37then comes the McLaren
00:37:38the top four
00:37:39separated by nine seconds
00:37:40yeah and they've got
00:37:42to wonder at Red Bull
00:37:43whether they
00:37:43if they'd have given
00:37:44that place back
00:37:45immediately
00:37:45and just kept
00:37:46themselves in play
00:37:47instead of taking
00:37:48what I think
00:37:49was an inevitable penalty
00:37:51whether they would
00:37:52have been better off
00:37:53in this Grand Prix
00:37:54because they're going
00:37:55to lose by
00:37:55significantly less
00:37:57than five seconds
00:37:58Oscar Piastri
00:37:59has won of course
00:38:00so far this season
00:38:02he did it
00:38:03in Bahrain
00:38:04last time out
00:38:05he did it in China
00:38:06but we are looking
00:38:06at a first winner
00:38:08in 2025
00:38:08who hasn't
00:38:10started on pole position
00:38:11and Piastri
00:38:13has got now
00:38:13about 10 corners
00:38:14to go
00:38:15on this
00:38:16the track
00:38:16with more corners
00:38:17than any other
00:38:18in Formula 1
00:38:19Norris is not
00:38:20making the game
00:38:21on Charles Leclerc
00:38:22that he would
00:38:23have wanted
00:38:24and Red Bull
00:38:25with Max Verstappen
00:38:25I'm sure
00:38:26will be arguing
00:38:26about that penalty
00:38:27and the upshot
00:38:28is that they're
00:38:29going to be beaten
00:38:30here in Saudi Arabia
00:38:31for the first time
00:38:32since 2021
00:38:34as Piastri
00:38:35threads his way
00:38:36through turn 22
00:38:37once again
00:38:38where he has been
00:38:39gliding there
00:38:40all weekend long
00:38:41and he's done
00:38:42the fastest
00:38:42middle sector
00:38:43of the entire Grand Prix
00:38:44has Oscar Piastri
00:38:46just to show
00:38:47what he could have done
00:38:48should he have
00:38:49had to do so
00:38:50fourth after China
00:38:51third after Japan
00:38:52second after Bahrain
00:38:54in the Drivers' Championship
00:38:56Oscar Piastri
00:38:57crosses the line
00:38:58now to win
00:39:00the Saudi Arabian
00:39:01Grand Prix
00:39:01and lead
00:39:02the Drivers' Championship
00:39:04Max Verstappen
00:39:05is beaten
00:39:06into second place
00:39:07and got that
00:39:08five second penalty
00:39:10Charles Leclerc
00:39:11holds off
00:39:12Lando Norris
00:39:13to claim
00:39:13Ferrari's first
00:39:14podium of the season
00:39:15Lando Norris
00:39:16with a great
00:39:17recovery drive
00:39:18to go from
00:39:19P10
00:39:20to fourth
00:39:21on the road
00:39:22George Russell
00:39:23comes home now
00:39:24to finish fifth
00:39:25ahead of his teammate
00:39:26Kimi Antonelli
00:39:28who has held off
00:39:29Lewis Hamilton
00:39:30right at the end
00:39:31Hamilton
00:39:32will finish seventh
00:39:34and there's celebrations
00:39:35already
00:39:35for McLaren
00:39:37winning here
00:39:37in Jeddah
00:39:38for the first time
00:39:40ever
00:39:40I'm looking at the battle
00:39:42that's still going on
00:39:43Sainz
00:39:44ahead of Albon
00:39:45ahead of Hadja
00:39:46ahead of Lawson
00:39:47they're not separated
00:39:48by much
00:39:49Hadja has got
00:39:50DRS
00:39:51and he is gaining
00:39:51as you can see now
00:39:53on the Williams
00:39:54ahead of him
00:39:54of Alex Albon
00:39:55he's going to have
00:39:55to be very late
00:39:56on the breaks
00:39:56and not quite
00:39:57enough
00:39:58for him to try
00:39:59and get past
00:40:00brilliant teamwork
00:40:01for Williams
00:40:02who come home
00:40:03to score
00:40:03their first points
00:40:04in Saudi Arabia
00:40:06Sainz eighth
00:40:06Albon ninth
00:40:07and Hadja claims
00:40:08his second points
00:40:09finish
00:40:09in Formula One
00:40:11with tenth place
00:40:12on a night
00:40:13that belongs
00:40:14once more
00:40:15to Oscar Piastri
00:40:16very well done
00:40:19lovely job Oscar
00:40:20great work mate
00:40:22really good
00:40:22well done everyone
00:40:25it was a
00:40:27little bit more
00:40:28difficult to start
00:40:28than I
00:40:29had hoped for
00:40:30but
00:40:31yeah very very well done
00:40:32car was great
00:40:34dirty air
00:40:35not so much
00:40:36but
00:40:36I'm glad
00:40:38the third
00:40:39years
00:40:39from lapping
00:40:39people
00:40:40so
00:40:40well done
00:40:42everybody
00:40:42massive
00:40:43three weeks
00:40:44and let's
00:40:45keep it going
00:40:46got a lot of
00:40:47fun to have
00:40:47this year
00:40:48yeah
00:40:48great job
00:40:49third and
00:40:51two first
00:40:52from the triple
00:40:53header
00:40:53yeah
00:40:53yeah
00:40:54a massive
00:40:55triple header
00:40:55as he said
00:40:56and
00:40:58he fancy
00:40:59better than
00:41:00a third
00:41:00as well
00:41:01in Suzuka
00:41:02didn't he
00:41:03what can I say
00:41:05mate
00:41:05it's a well
00:41:06executed race
00:41:06well done guys
00:41:08yeah I tried
00:41:09to give it
00:41:11everything I had
00:41:11but yeah
00:41:13it's what it is
00:41:15we move on
00:41:16this week
00:41:17it has been
00:41:17a lot
00:41:19a lot
00:41:19positive for us
00:41:20so well done
00:41:21yeah well done Max
00:41:22that was a good
00:41:23pace throughout the race
00:41:24you finished 2.8 seconds
00:41:25behind Piastri
00:41:26obviously
00:41:27that first corner
00:41:29we've all got our
00:41:29opinions on
00:41:30and you know
00:41:31good points today
00:41:32so and
00:41:32but most importantly
00:41:33very good pace
00:41:34yeah exactly that
00:41:35well done everyone
00:41:37Max Verstappen
00:41:39tight lips
00:41:40Christian Horner
00:41:40maybe a little
00:41:41tight lips
00:41:41and we'll hear
00:41:42from him
00:41:42after the race
00:41:43the sales horse
00:41:44driver of the day
00:41:45though
00:41:45is Max Verstappen
00:41:46and if McLaren
00:41:47have got the best car
00:41:48well he kept them
00:41:49very keen
00:41:50in this race
00:41:50he did
00:41:51it was a great drive
00:41:52you know
00:41:52and they had a Friday
00:41:53whereas I can't
00:41:54turn the car
00:41:55I can't stop the car
00:41:56and as ever
00:41:57they worked their magic
00:41:58through the various
00:41:59sessions
00:41:59Max then
00:42:00delivers the golden
00:42:02lap in qualifying
00:42:03and he stopped us
00:42:04in the race
00:42:05but that McLaren
00:42:06is a little bit
00:42:07faster
00:42:07fireworks go off
00:42:10as the cars
00:42:12make their way
00:42:13in towards
00:42:14Park Fermat
00:42:15I mean look
00:42:16we've had a lot of
00:42:17sparks so far
00:42:18this year
00:42:19particularly in
00:42:19Suzuka
00:42:20there's even more
00:42:21sparks down the
00:42:22main straight now
00:42:23Oscar Piastri
00:42:24makes his way
00:42:26into that P1
00:42:27position
00:42:27which Martin
00:42:29Brundley
00:42:29is getting
00:42:29rather used
00:42:30to now
00:42:30isn't he
00:42:31the third win
00:42:32of 2025
00:42:33for the Australian
00:42:34it's ominous
00:42:36it's very good
00:42:36for him
00:42:37you know
00:42:38and he's still
00:42:38a very young
00:42:39man
00:42:40this is his
00:42:4151st
00:42:42Grand Prix
00:42:42it's a long way
00:42:43behind the others
00:42:44in terms of his
00:42:45experience
00:42:4682 races
00:42:47behind Lando Norris
00:42:49in terms of
00:42:49experience
00:42:50and
00:42:52that calm
00:42:53head of his
00:42:53is just going
00:42:54to pay dividends
00:42:55and you could
00:42:56imagine
00:42:56if we got a
00:42:57big old
00:42:57championship showdown
00:42:58how useful
00:43:00his
00:43:01horizontal
00:43:03sort of
00:43:03nature
00:43:03will be
00:43:04absolutely
00:43:06slightly less
00:43:08horizontal
00:43:09Zach Brown
00:43:09I think
00:43:11I think
00:43:12they
00:43:12they didn't
00:43:13need a microphone
00:43:13anywhere near him
00:43:14to hear the
00:43:15celebrations there
00:43:16as pleased
00:43:17as punch
00:43:17I'm sure
00:43:18for Oscar
00:43:19Piastri's
00:43:20performance
00:43:21tonight
00:43:22and also
00:43:22for Lando Norris
00:43:23performance
00:43:24who gave it
00:43:25absolutely
00:43:25everything
00:43:26from P10
00:43:28for Max
00:43:29Verstappen
00:43:30third in the
00:43:31championship
00:43:32which is
00:43:32his lowest
00:43:33position
00:43:34since that
00:43:34DNF he had
00:43:35in Australia
00:43:36in 2022
00:43:37he's been used
00:43:38to leading
00:43:38a championship
00:43:39but he's
00:43:39he's there
00:43:40he's not
00:43:40going away
00:43:41and he is
00:43:42dragging that
00:43:43Red Bull
00:43:43as you say
00:43:44around the
00:43:45track
00:43:45and I think
00:43:46showing that
00:43:46McLaren
00:43:47haven't got
00:43:47the advantage
00:43:47that a lot
00:43:48of people
00:43:48thought they
00:43:49had
00:43:50especially
00:43:50over someone
00:43:51like Max
00:43:52I think
00:43:52it's a
00:43:53tenth
00:43:53a tenth
00:43:54or two
00:43:55if they
00:43:55ace
00:43:56everything
00:43:56at McLaren
00:43:57and that's
00:43:59a decent
00:43:59recovery from
00:44:00Norris isn't
00:44:00it
00:44:01tenth to
00:44:01fourth
00:44:01that keeps
00:44:02him in
00:44:03play in the
00:44:03championship
00:44:04I think
00:44:05I think he'll
00:44:05be pretty
00:44:06satisfied with
00:44:06that drive
00:44:07very satisfied
00:44:08with that
00:44:08drive
00:44:08Charles Leclerc
00:44:09too
00:44:10I think
00:44:10Piastri had
00:44:11it covered
00:44:12out front
00:44:12to be honest
00:44:13he did his
00:44:13personal best
00:44:14on the last
00:44:14lap
00:44:14as well
00:44:161 by 2.8
00:44:17I think he was
00:44:18controlling the
00:44:18pace
00:44:18he had
00:44:19what it
00:44:20what it
00:44:21needed
00:44:21and a
00:44:23tremendous
00:44:23drive
00:44:23from him
00:44:24so
00:44:24I mean
00:44:26that's
00:44:26just
00:44:27massively
00:44:28fast
00:44:28isn't it
00:44:29for a
00:44:29Grand Prix
00:44:30around
00:44:30concrete walls
00:44:31certainly
00:44:32is
00:44:32and they
00:44:33look like
00:44:33they've been
00:44:34in a hot
00:44:34one tonight
00:44:35the drivers
00:44:36Charles Leclerc
00:44:37finishing third
00:44:39now in
00:44:39consecutive
00:44:40Saudi Arabian
00:44:41Grand Prix
00:44:42bringing that
00:44:43Ferrari home
00:44:44for its
00:44:44first podium
00:44:45in a Grand Prix
00:44:45of the season
00:44:46knee pads
00:44:47knee pads
00:44:50to stop your knees
00:44:51knocking together
00:44:52not to protect
00:44:53your knees
00:44:53on the outside
00:44:54on the cockpit
00:44:56as it were
00:44:56your knees
00:44:57bang together
00:44:58as we saw
00:45:00Piastri taking off
00:45:01well it's been
00:45:02well the first
00:45:04triple header
00:45:04of the season
00:45:05and it's been
00:45:06a fairly
00:45:07exhausting start
00:45:08to this season
00:45:09with five races
00:45:10in six weeks
00:45:11for these drivers
00:45:12who I'm sure
00:45:13are all looking
00:45:13forward to a week
00:45:14off now
00:45:15although Yuki
00:45:16Tsunoda is
00:45:17going to Silverstone
00:45:18to take part
00:45:19in a bit of a test
00:45:20there
00:45:20with the RB19
00:45:22from 2023
00:45:23the old Red Bull
00:45:24car
00:45:25just to bring him
00:45:26up to speed
00:45:26a little bit more
00:45:27testing of previous
00:45:28cars
00:45:29that's known as
00:45:302023
00:45:322022
00:45:332021
00:45:33I think you can
00:45:34use those
00:45:35providing their run
00:45:36to the spec
00:45:36they were homologated
00:45:38and raced in
00:45:39and Tsunoda
00:45:40sadly didn't get
00:45:40much racing done
00:45:41tonight
00:45:42out at the first
00:45:43corner
00:45:43the fourth corner
00:45:44on the first lap
00:45:46tangling with
00:45:47Pierre Gasly
00:45:49and one of those
00:45:49racing incidents
00:45:50that we do see
00:45:51the racing incidents
00:45:52between Oscar
00:45:54Piastri and Verstappen
00:45:55that got that
00:45:55five second
00:45:56penalty
00:45:57which made a big
00:46:00difference
00:46:00come the pit stops
00:46:01the winner
00:46:02tonight
00:46:02Oscar Piastri
00:46:03is with David
00:46:04Coulthard now
00:46:05Oscar Piastri
00:46:12our new world
00:46:13championship
00:46:14leader
00:46:15your fifth
00:46:16victory
00:46:16around the
00:46:17fastest
00:46:18street circuit
00:46:19tell us your
00:46:20emotions
00:46:21right now
00:46:21looking for a
00:46:24couch
00:46:25I think is the
00:46:25answer
00:46:26it was a pretty
00:46:27tough race
00:46:28yeah
00:46:29very very happy
00:46:30to have obviously
00:46:31won
00:46:31and yeah
00:46:32made the
00:46:33difference at the
00:46:33start
00:46:34made my case
00:46:37into turn one
00:46:37and yeah
00:46:38that was
00:46:39enough
00:46:41it was really
00:46:41tricky to follow
00:46:42out there
00:46:42I couldn't really
00:46:43stay with Max
00:46:44at the end of the
00:46:44first stint
00:46:44just chewed up
00:46:45my tyres
00:46:46and then
00:46:46yeah
00:46:47the clean air
00:46:48was nice
00:46:48after the pit stop
00:46:49so great race
00:46:51we did
00:46:52the parts
00:46:52we needed to
00:46:53right
00:46:53still need a bit
00:46:55more I think
00:46:55Max was a little
00:46:57bit too close
00:46:57for a liking
00:46:58but a great race
00:46:59and a great weekend
00:47:00certainly a great
00:47:02start
00:47:02you touched on
00:47:03that
00:47:03your launch
00:47:04was awesome
00:47:04you had to go
00:47:05toe to toe
00:47:06the first time
00:47:07that I recall
00:47:08you doing that
00:47:08with Max
00:47:09into turn one
00:47:10and in the end
00:47:11you stood your
00:47:11grounds
00:47:11yeah
00:47:13once I got on
00:47:14the inside
00:47:14I wasn't coming
00:47:15out of turn one
00:47:16in second
00:47:16so I tried my
00:47:18best
00:47:18you know
00:47:19obviously the
00:47:20stewards had to
00:47:20get involved
00:47:21but you know
00:47:22I thought I was
00:47:22was plenty
00:47:23far enough up
00:47:24and yeah
00:47:25in the end
00:47:26that's what
00:47:27got me the race
00:47:28so I'm very
00:47:29very happy
00:47:29with all the work
00:47:31we've been doing
00:47:31starts
00:47:31and yeah
00:47:32that's what
00:47:33won us the race
00:47:33today
00:47:33you say you want
00:47:34to go and find
00:47:35a couch
00:47:35again explain to us
00:47:37just the physicality
00:47:39of this race
00:47:39it's such a fast
00:47:40circuit
00:47:41you've got the heat
00:47:42we know you've had
00:47:43some drink issues
00:47:44in the past
00:47:44I should specify
00:47:45you've had drink
00:47:46bottle issues
00:47:47in the past
00:47:47did that work
00:47:49today
00:47:50and just how
00:47:50tough was this
00:47:51of your five
00:47:52victories
00:47:52was this the
00:47:53toughest
00:47:53yeah that was
00:47:54one of our
00:47:55biggest upgrades
00:47:55this week
00:47:56the drinks working
00:47:57so no that
00:47:58was good
00:47:59I got some
00:48:00fluids on board
00:48:01which was nice
00:48:01but it's always
00:48:03a tough race
00:48:03around here
00:48:04it's a little bit
00:48:04later in the year
00:48:05this year as well
00:48:06which I think
00:48:07it's a little bit
00:48:07warmer
00:48:07a little bit
00:48:08more humid
00:48:08and yeah
00:48:09definitely one of
00:48:10the toughest
00:48:11races I've had
00:48:12in my career
00:48:13so glad that I
00:48:14could come out
00:48:15on top
00:48:15in it
00:48:15well congratulations
00:48:16I'll let you
00:48:17go and get
00:48:17some water
00:48:17enjoy the podium
00:48:19cheers
00:48:19thank you
00:48:20max well you
00:48:37were close
00:48:37but it all went
00:48:39away on that run
00:48:40to the first corner
00:48:41or the run through
00:48:42the first corner
00:48:43we have to start
00:48:44there you were very
00:48:45clear on the radio
00:48:45that you thought
00:48:46the two cars
00:48:47were not going
00:48:48to make the turn
00:48:48stewards obviously
00:48:50saw it another way
00:48:51yeah I'm going
00:48:52to keep it quite short
00:48:53I just want to say
00:48:54a big thank you
00:48:55to the fans
00:48:55here in Jeddah
00:48:56it's been a great
00:48:57weekend
00:48:58I love the track
00:48:59and yeah
00:49:01the rest is what
00:49:02it is
00:49:02I'm looking forward
00:49:03to Miami
00:49:03so see you there
00:49:04thank you max
00:49:05well Charles
00:49:21I expect
00:49:22you're going
00:49:23to be a little
00:49:24bit happier
00:49:24with your third
00:49:25than Max is
00:49:26with his second
00:49:27your long stint
00:49:29was fantastic
00:49:30it's a little bit
00:49:30confusing from the
00:49:31outside
00:49:31the pace
00:49:32wasn't there
00:49:33in quali
00:49:34but your race pace
00:49:35was incredibly strong
00:49:36yeah it's the way
00:49:38it is for now
00:49:38unfortunately
00:49:39in qualifying
00:49:40we don't manage
00:49:41to extract more
00:49:42out of the car
00:49:43I was extremely
00:49:43happy with the lap
00:49:44yesterday
00:49:44I was very very
00:49:46happy with the race
00:49:46today I think
00:49:47we maximise
00:49:48absolutely everything
00:49:49so I'm very proud
00:49:51of what we've done
00:49:52now we just need
00:49:53to improve the car
00:49:54in order to be
00:49:54fighting a bit further
00:49:55we heard also
00:49:57the interaction
00:49:57with your engineer
00:49:58a little bit of
00:49:59tongue-in-cheek
00:50:00conversation
00:50:00as he was
00:50:01encouraging you along
00:50:03yeah he was
00:50:04very chill
00:50:05Brian was
00:50:06very relaxed
00:50:07on the beach
00:50:08wall
00:50:08for me it was
00:50:09a little bit
00:50:09more intense
00:50:10inside the car
00:50:11but yeah
00:50:12I mean we have
00:50:12a very good
00:50:13relationship
00:50:13and I think
00:50:15that yeah
00:50:17we can see it
00:50:18on track now
00:50:18and it shows
00:50:20results
00:50:20so I'm really
00:50:21happy about this
00:50:21overall you feel
00:50:23this was the maximum
00:50:23you could get
00:50:24this weekend
00:50:24yeah by far
00:50:25I never expected
00:50:26to finish there
00:50:27honestly
00:50:27I thought that
00:50:29this race was
00:50:29about defending
00:50:30the cars behind
00:50:31especially Kimi
00:50:32so it was
00:50:33really good
00:50:34so for Ferrari
00:50:35France around
00:50:35the world
00:50:36this is a game
00:50:37that never
00:50:37a race that
00:50:38never ends
00:50:39it's about
00:50:39upgrades
00:50:39what is the
00:50:41next step
00:50:41forward for the
00:50:42team
00:50:42yeah we need
00:50:43to keep pushing
00:50:44the maximum
00:50:45and yeah
00:50:46the hopefully
00:50:49upgrades are
00:50:49coming soon
00:50:50in order to
00:50:52improve the car
00:50:53but thanks for
00:50:53the support
00:50:54okay congratulations
00:50:55thank you
00:50:55podium
00:50:55David Coulthard
00:50:58with the
00:50:59interviews
00:50:59I think Max
00:51:00Verstappen
00:51:00disappearing off
00:51:01after the first
00:51:02answer because
00:51:03I got the feeling
00:51:04he didn't want
00:51:04to talk too much
00:51:05about the penalty
00:51:06and any questions
00:51:06coming his way
00:51:07about it
00:51:07100%
00:51:08yeah
00:51:08he certainly
00:51:10didn't want
00:51:10to be tempted
00:51:12to say stuff
00:51:12that might get
00:51:13him a fine
00:51:13or upset the
00:51:14FIA as well
00:51:15but he's clearly
00:51:16got a different
00:51:18view to the
00:51:19penalty that he
00:51:19received
00:51:20how important
00:51:22do you see
00:51:22this result
00:51:23tonight Martin
00:51:24in that Oscar
00:51:25Piastri and
00:51:25Max Verstappen
00:51:26went toe to
00:51:26toe and
00:51:27tonight Piastri
00:51:28came out on
00:51:29top
00:51:29I think it's
00:51:30very important
00:51:31it's good for
00:51:31Piastri's head
00:51:32but I think he
00:51:32kind of knew
00:51:33that anyway
00:51:33he didn't
00:51:34no quarter
00:51:35asked and
00:51:36no quarter
00:51:36given by
00:51:37the young
00:51:38despite his
00:51:39limited experience
00:51:42compared to
00:51:42the others
00:51:43so but he
00:51:44had the pace
00:51:44as well
00:51:45didn't he
00:51:45but you know
00:51:47somehow or other
00:51:48Max has
00:51:48extracted
00:51:50a second
00:51:50out of a
00:51:51car that's
00:51:52a close
00:51:53second out
00:51:54of a car
00:51:54that's not
00:51:54as fast
00:51:55but
00:51:55Charlotte
00:51:56Clare and
00:51:56Ferrari are
00:51:56very happy
00:51:57with their
00:51:57first Grand
00:51:58Prix podium
00:51:59of the year
00:51:59brings them
00:52:01a bit closer
00:52:02to Red Bull
00:52:03as well
00:52:03just 11
00:52:04points between
00:52:05them
00:52:05McLaren
00:52:06extend their
00:52:07lead to
00:52:0777 points
00:52:08in the
00:52:09Constructors
00:52:09Championship
00:52:10and it's
00:52:1110 points
00:52:11now between
00:52:12Oscar Piastri
00:52:12and Lando
00:52:13Norris
00:52:14who I think
00:52:15could do
00:52:16probably with a
00:52:17reset and
00:52:18some time away
00:52:19from the
00:52:19racetrack
00:52:20just
00:52:21comebacks
00:52:24fighting
00:52:24stronger
00:52:2529
00:52:2730
00:52:28we need to
00:52:31do something
00:52:32for our
00:52:33steering wheel
00:52:33in those
00:52:34conditions
00:52:34so slippery
00:52:36what
00:52:36your steering wheel
00:52:37my steering wheel
00:52:38is so heavy
00:52:39heavy
00:52:40yeah
00:52:40we have no
00:52:41assistance
00:52:41yeah that
00:52:58wasn't great
00:52:59for my job
00:52:59it's not
00:53:00surprising
00:53:00was that you
00:53:02yeah
00:53:02hey the marbles
00:53:04were so bad
00:53:05did you go to
00:53:06the marbles
00:53:07once
00:53:07when I find
00:53:12like that
00:53:13the next two
00:53:13outside
00:53:13oh I had to go
00:53:15around the
00:53:15outside of the
00:53:16blue flag
00:53:16I had to take
00:53:17all the marbles
00:53:17the corner
00:53:19after I was like
00:53:19700
00:53:20seconds
00:53:20oh and it was
00:53:26Gabby as well
00:53:27he might not have a
00:53:28flight home tonight
00:53:29anymore
00:53:29you went a long
00:53:37time on the
00:53:38medium
00:53:38yes
00:53:39yeah
00:53:40we were very fast
00:53:41I mean we were
00:53:42very fast as I was
00:53:43in K-Max
00:53:44I think it's
00:53:453R has such a
00:53:45big effect here
00:53:46that as soon as I
00:53:47was in 3R
00:53:48I started to
00:53:49have a lot more
00:53:50prompt
00:53:51and it was a lot
00:53:51better
00:53:51conversation about
00:54:00marbles
00:54:00it's like boys
00:54:01at a school
00:54:01playground
00:54:02but we're talking
00:54:02about bits of
00:54:03rubber
00:54:03on the side of
00:54:04the track
00:54:04and you picked
00:54:05up on this
00:54:05quite early on
00:54:06yeah
00:54:06it's a lot of
00:54:07discarded rubber
00:54:08it gets cold
00:54:09flicks off the
00:54:10tyres
00:54:10and then start
00:54:12it just gets
00:54:12moved
00:54:13it sort of moves
00:54:14ever closer
00:54:15towards the
00:54:16racing line
00:54:16eventually
00:54:17and what they're
00:54:19saying is
00:54:19yeah you run over
00:54:20it and it takes
00:54:21you quite a long
00:54:22time to
00:54:23it's quite a long
00:54:25time to clean it
00:54:26all back off
00:54:26again
00:54:27Raymond
00:54:28Van Mullen
00:54:30Max Verstappen's
00:54:31manager in
00:54:32conversation with
00:54:32Dr. Helmut Marko
00:54:33and Christian Horner
00:54:34Dr. Marko not
00:54:36looking overly
00:54:37pleased with
00:54:39tonight
00:54:39nominated
00:54:41Sebastian Vettel
00:54:42as a successor
00:54:43to him at
00:54:44Red Bull
00:54:45on the day
00:54:45that he decides
00:54:46to stop
00:54:47looking after
00:54:48the driver
00:54:49development
00:54:49programme
00:54:49it's a
00:54:50different
00:54:50style out
00:54:51I imagine
00:54:51that would
00:54:51be
00:54:52and to
00:54:56the beat
00:54:56of the
00:54:57drums
00:54:57up come
00:54:57the three
00:54:58drivers
00:54:58onto
00:55:00the podium
00:55:01for tonight
00:55:03bit of a
00:55:06contrast
00:55:06isn't there
00:55:07between the
00:55:07discussion
00:55:08between the
00:55:09three Red Bull
00:55:10officials
00:55:11and
00:55:12Stunham and
00:55:12Brown
00:55:13McLaren
00:55:13McLaren
00:55:13come to lead
00:55:14the
00:55:14constructors
00:55:15and it's
00:55:15one and
00:55:15two
00:55:16for the
00:55:16McLaren
00:55:16drivers
00:55:17in the
00:55:17drivers
00:55:18championship
00:55:18at the
00:55:19moment
00:55:19and they've
00:55:20won another
00:55:20race
00:55:20and it's
00:55:22sort of a
00:55:22bit of a
00:55:23rescue mission
00:55:23for Lando
00:55:24Norris this
00:55:24evening
00:55:25and they made
00:55:26Matt
00:55:27really rebuild
00:55:29his car
00:55:29basically
00:55:29Lando Norris
00:55:30after that
00:55:30shunt
00:55:31and it's
00:55:32been reliable
00:55:32so I can
00:55:33see why
00:55:33they're smiling
00:55:34those that
00:55:35helped rebuild
00:55:36that car
00:55:36are all above
00:55:38the podium
00:55:39as Charles
00:55:39Leclerc climbs
00:55:40onto this
00:55:40podium
00:55:40in third
00:55:41place for
00:55:42the second
00:55:42consecutive
00:55:43year here
00:55:43Max Verstappen
00:55:44beaten
00:55:44here in
00:55:46Saudi Arabia
00:55:47tonight
00:55:48into second
00:55:49place
00:55:50and not
00:55:51looking happy
00:55:52with the way
00:55:52that things
00:55:53transpired
00:55:54I'm sure
00:55:55we'll hear
00:55:55more about
00:55:56that five
00:55:56second penalty
00:55:57after the
00:55:58race
00:55:58and Oscar
00:55:59Piastri
00:56:00for the

00:56:02in the space
00:56:03of seven
00:56:04days
00:56:04for the
00:56:04third time
00:56:05this season
00:56:05stands on
00:56:06top of
00:56:07the podium
00:56:07and for
00:56:08the first
