00:00Sunny 1063, it's 833. Gina Birch here. Thanks for being with us. I've got a special guest in studio.
00:07We've got Gary Willoughby from the Gulf Coast Humane Society. And Gary, you've got a beautiful dog in with you this morning.
00:13She's a mixed breed, tan with some white and black spots on her. 37 pounds, full grown at two years old.
00:20She probably has a little pit bull mixed in with her, maybe some Jack Russell, probably three or four things.
00:25All-American dog, super affectionate. Again, looks like she's going to be a big dog, but at 37, she's full grown.
00:32Loves people, loves riding in a car. She's housebroken.
00:36She doesn't particularly love cats or she's a little too friendly for cats.
00:39Seem to be okay with other dogs. And I'd say one of the things we've learned about her is she's like a spider dog.
00:45She can climb a six foot fence with a grace of ease.
00:47Get out of here. So she wants to be with people. So if she sees people on the other side of the fence, she's going to go for it.
00:52Yeah. Especially if you just let her out to do her business and you're not out there with her, she's going to get bored and she's going to go meet the neighbors.
00:57Good to know that we have a very social dog on our hand. How long has she been at the shelter now?
01:03Just back a couple of days. So I think she was only there a few days, a couple of weeks ago.
01:06And then again, was escaping a little bit. And some folks didn't want to stay outside with her.
01:11And so we took her back in and we're going to find her a home where someone will be with her at all times.
01:15Yeah. Man, what a friendly dog this one is. And I know people, it's a mix.
01:19And a lot of people say or swear by the mixed breeds as being because they kind of get the best of everything.
01:26So do you agree that the mixed breeds just make great? I mean, they all make good pets.
01:30But I mean, this one in particular. Yeah. Often they're hardier as well, too.
01:34You find a lot of the purebreds have been bred a certain way and have a lot of genetic issues and medical issues ongoing.
01:40And she's a very sturdy dog. So that's she's sturdy, but small.
01:44I mean, she's a strong dog and she's just a she a leaner, too.
01:47I mean, I remember we had Penelope in there and and last week and Brian said she leans against you because she wants attention.
01:53I noticed she was doing that as well. Yes, she's definitely a leaner as well.
01:56And a very affectionate. She loves her humans. So she wants to be with people at all times.
02:01So since I brought up Penelope, Penelope was in here last week.
02:04Another beautiful dog. What is the status? Do we have her at home yet?
02:08We unfortunately don't. But she actually had two meets with two different families yesterday afternoon.
02:12So I think they're both trying to decide if she's the right pet for her.
02:16She's an, again, incredible dog. Right.
02:18Been with us way too long. You know, she her only challenges. She doesn't like other dogs.
02:23And again, she's she rode out the hurricane with us. She's she's seen a lot.
02:28She's she's visited. She's one of our best senior facility visitors in pet therapy.
02:32So she loves the seniors. She's very gentle with people. Nice.
02:35Walks nice on a leash. Just an incredible dog.
02:37There's no reason in the world why she shouldn't be in a great home today.
02:40So we're going to put Penelope's pictures back up on the Web site today when you leave.
02:43We're also going to put pictures of Shiloh. Right.
02:46Shiloh is such an oh, we the Shiloh.
02:49So far, everybody in the building has loved her. They all love Penelope as well.
02:52So we are going to be we're teaming up with you to do a special event on the 28th at the Gulf Coast Humane Society.
02:58Thanks to Achieve a Credit Union for helping us because we're covering all the adoption fees that day.
03:03Yeah, that's fantastic. And it's also very, very timely.
03:06We received a grant to remodel half of our dog kennels February 3rd through the 17th.
03:12So we need to have some vacancies beforehand. So bless you, Shiloh.
03:17So having having folks come in there and finding that forever home ahead of time allows us to get that very needed construction.
03:24Those kennels haven't been remodeled since 1977.
03:26Oh, my.
03:26So it's definitely time. Yeah. So it's good news, bad news.
03:29Good news is you're doing the remodel. Bad news is we got to get them all out.
03:32The animals out so you can actually do that.
03:34That's where we're going to ask all of you, our Sunny 106.3 listeners.
03:37If you're looking for an animal, we need to adopt from the shelters because you have been you were overloaded, especially after Ian.
03:44Right. Yeah.
03:45Unfortunately, so many people lost their houses or had a difficult time finding a rental place where they were allowed to bring their dogs with them, especially of a certain size.
03:53Shiloh, again, 37 pounds. So she's can fit into more HOAs and more apartments.
03:58Oftentimes they'll have size restrictions.
04:00She's a nice small dog. So that's so even if you're renting, she might be a good candidate for you.
04:05So, Gary, give us the contact information for Gulf Coast Humane Society for people wanting to come and meet Shiloh or just see what other animals you might have up for adoption.
04:13Yeah, we always encourage people to go to gulfcoasthumanesociety.org.
04:17There you can see our adoption prices, our hours, the application, photos and descriptions of all the dogs and cats, information about upcoming events, volunteer opportunities.
04:26If you want to foster, if you're not sure you want that commitment of a dog permanently or a cat permanently, you can foster a short term as well.
04:32That's a great, great idea.
04:34Gary Willoughby and Shiloh from Gulf Coast Humane Society, thanks for being with us this morning.
04:38Good luck in getting her adopted.
04:40I'm going to be posting photos of Shiloh on Sunny1063.com so you can see what she looks like.
04:46Beautiful dog.
04:47Good luck.
04:47Thanks again, Gary.
