00:00All right, so Melissa has reached out to us. This is kind of cool. Her and Tyler, they actually dated in high school. Now they're out of high school.
00:09They, well, I mean, they've been out of high school for a while, and they just recently reconnected. They went on a date, and she's like, yeah, I really like them.
00:16Yeah, I know, and, you know, I don't know if you do this, but I do this. I try to maybe, like, figure it out before we get the other person on the phone.
00:25It's like a little game I have with myself. I've got all these scenarios going on in my head right now, so I want to see if maybe one of them is right.
00:33But she said they dated for six months, so obviously they were out.
00:38That's like an eternity in high school.
00:40Yeah, it is an eternity in high school, so who knows what this could be about, but I got some ideas.
00:44And it didn't end badly in high school, too.
00:46I know, but I think, I'm thinking revenge.
00:49Revenge? Okay.
00:50From something that happened, yes.
00:51All right, well, let's see what we got here. We're going to call Tyler right now and see if we can get him on the phone.
00:55Hello?
01:09Hey, is this Tyler?
01:11It is.
01:11Hey, Tyler, good morning to you. This is actually J.R., Lana, and Kevin over here at 995QYK. How you doing?
01:17Good morning.
01:19I know you. Good morning.
01:21I know you.
01:23Hi.
01:23Well, man, we appreciate you answering. I guess that makes sense that you would know what QYK was, because we know you grew up in the area.
01:30Yeah, I listen to you guys all the time.
01:31Well, we wanted to see if we could ask you about a girl that you kind of reconnected with recently that you actually dated in high school.
01:41Oh, it must be Melissa.
01:44Yeah, we're talking about Melissa.
01:46Sophomore year, I guess. You guys dated, and you guys dated for about six months. She said you guys reconnected, went to Mellow Mushroom, had a beer, had some pizza, enjoyed each other's company, and she was like, we kind of picked up where we left off, and she was excited to see you again.
02:02And I guess she's been reaching out, and you've kind of given her one-word answers, and now is the time to find out what's the deal, man. Why are you not getting back to this girl?
02:11Yeah, we had a great date and everything, and it was good to reconnect, you know, but to be honest, something came up on the date in our conversation, and it just kind of messed with me after.
02:32What was that?
02:32Well, you know, we were talking about high school, of course, and all that stuff in the past, and she kind of mentioned to me that she had cheated on me while we were dating with one of my friends.
02:47Oh, no!
02:50Yeah, it just didn't, the more I thought about it, it kind of didn't sit right with me, and I thought that was kind of horrible.
02:58What was your initial reaction when she told you this on the date?
03:01I was taken aback, I didn't really know what to say, you know, it was a long time ago, so I was kind of processing, you know, like, where I was at that time and everything, but then when I got home, I was just like, what? That's pretty messed up, you know?
03:17Well, yeah, especially, like, when you go back to high school, and you think of, you know, what that did to you back then, you know, were you crushed about her breakup, or were you, like, a guy who just turned around and dated all the cheerleaders?
03:28Or was it just not a big deal?
03:29Yeah, she said it didn't end badly, so I'm asking, did it end badly for you? Because you didn't know that in high school that that happened, right?
03:45I didn't know that happened, and yeah, it wasn't, like, the worst breakup or anything, but, I mean, it sucked, you know, like, breakups, too, but knowing that would have definitely changed a lot of things, you know?
04:00Man, you still friends with this dude?
04:04I'm not, but...
04:06Well, that's probably the best.
04:08Yeah. Well, dude, I gotta tell you, we actually have Melissa on the phone, and I gotta bring her back on. I could see why that would bother you.
04:16Melissa, you there?
04:18Yeah, I'm here.
04:19You heard what Tyler had to say. Is that, did you tell him that on the date, that, you know, back in the day you cheated on him?
04:25Yeah, I did. I mean, but, like, you're a kid, dude. I mean, you're holding something against me that was from, you know, over 10 years ago in high school? I mean, you need to grow up.
04:38Oh!
04:39I mean, like, the fact that you're so kind of blase about it is really, it really says a lot about you, you know? Even if it was 10 years ago, that's kind of, you know, you're just awfully kind of, like, okay and proud of it.
04:53I'm not proud of it. Like, everybody does stupid stuff when they're kids, you know? I'm sorry I did it, but, like, you don't even talk to the guy anymore. I mean, I'm a different person than I was when I was a sophomore in high school.
05:05Yeah, but that's kind of, like, that says a lot about a person's character, whether they were in high school or not, you know? I didn't cheat on anybody in high school. I feel like I still have the same sort of moral framework that I did.
05:19Well, good for you. Not all of us did.
05:21Well, clearly. But, you know, typically if somebody would cheat once, they'll cheat again.
05:28We were kids. Everybody screws up when they're kids, especially when you're 15 years old and your hormones are going crazy and it's not like we were going to get married, you know? I would never do that today.
05:39Takes a long time to break habits.
05:41Well, Tyler, she is saying she is a different person now, and I guess it comes down to if you believe that or not. And would you be willing to go on another date with her? I mean, I kind of feel like even the curiosity factor of it might be interesting.
05:59Well, they all say that. And, I mean, you know, I don't have any ill will. You know, I wish her the best, but I just feel like that's not really for me.
06:09Okay.
06:10Okay, well, I mean, I don't think somebody that hasn't matured at all or grown since they were 15 years old is really for me either.
06:15Okay.
06:16All right.
06:19Cool. Cool story.
06:20All right. Well, here's the deal, guys. We are going to let you go, and I appreciate you reaching out to us, and I wish you both luck, okay? And, man, the reunion's going to be awesome if you guys both go to it.
06:34All right. Have a good day.
06:37Thank you, too.
06:38I mean, that would be a tough one to hear.
06:41Honestly, I totally get where he is coming from because it was 10 years ago, and if he was, like, in love with her.
06:47But on the other thing, I totally get where she's coming from because you do stupid things in high school, and you can't, you know, we all get second chance. We should all get a second chance. We can't be judged by the kind of person we were in high school.
07:01Well, you don't think about consequences when you're in high school.
07:03Absolutely not. You don't think about serious relationships either.
07:08But he did say, you know, listen, my moral framework is still kind of the same. I know not to be unfaithful to someone, so I kind of get that, too.
07:15But it's high school. It's what you're supposed to do.
07:17Cheat?
07:18Not supposed to, but I mean, you're supposed to spoil your own.
07:23I can't wait for your book to come out, Lana. It's going to be great.
07:26Where are you at on this?
