00:00Buckle up for a ride aboard the Symphony of Destruction.
00:12Dark.
00:13Oh, well.
00:15Death involved.
00:16A Michigan woman has died after a 94-year-old driver crashed into her car,
00:25accelerated some more, and ran over her.
00:29Oh, my God.
00:30In Wixom.
00:31She got out to see what's up.
00:33Or was she just in the car, and he just kept going like a monster truck style?
00:37She got out.
00:38Oh, my God.
00:39Don't get out.
00:40The 59-year-old woman from Novi was driving a 2024 Honda CR-V
00:44when she was stopped behind a 2022 Ford F-350 in traffic on South Wixom Road.
00:53My worst nightmare right here.
00:54Yeah.
00:54Authorities say a 2010 Nissan Versa driven by a 94-year-old lady failed to stop
01:03and rammed right into the Honda CR-V.
01:06Probably didn't even see the...
01:07The 59-year-old woman jumped out of her car to see what happened.
01:11She was standing near the driver's door when the 94-year-old accelerated some more,
01:17hitting the car again, going up the side of it, running over the woman,
01:25and trapping her underneath that car.
01:28Yeah.
01:28Good God.
01:30Nope.
01:30So this makes me mad at the old lady like I'd be mad at a drunk driver.
01:34Yeah, 94, you should not be driving.
01:36That's like four or five years ago, you really should have stopped.
01:38Yeah.
01:39Yeah.
01:39The woman was taken to a nearby hospital, but unfortunately died from her injuries.
01:45Can't have a car land on you usually, you know.
01:48No monster truck you?
01:49No.
01:50Yeah.
01:51You can't really.
01:51I don't even know where the hell a 94-year-old needs to go.
01:54What are you getting?
01:56I don't know.
01:58Like yarn.
01:58Lobby?
01:58Lobby?
01:59I don't know.
02:00Ointments.
02:01Yarn and ointments.
02:02That's it.
02:02There should be a store called Yarn and Ointments.
02:04It should be the most dangerous place on earth.
02:06Oh, my God.
02:07Oh, my God.
02:08You just.
02:09Don't go anywhere near Yarn and Ointments.
02:10You build them on the outskirts.
02:11Oh, my God.
02:12I'm here at Yarn and Ointments.
02:14Why?
02:15You're young.
02:15Get out.
02:16There's so much fire.
02:17Be careful.
02:18So much metal.
02:21Yeah, it looks like post-apocalyptic.
02:24The parking lot.
02:25You can't go near Yarn and Ointments.
02:27No, you can't.
02:28Lots of rescues happening over the past 24 hours, and this is a nice one.
02:34A dog was found in some debris after Hurricane Milton swept through one Florida community.
02:41Here's that story now from CBS News.
02:43This is the devastation left behind in a retirement community in Fort Pierce, Florida.
02:49Overnight, several tornadoes ripped through the area.
02:53Oh, violent tornado.
02:55Michael Bass lives here.
02:56None of these manufactured homes are livable, period.
03:01These people don't know where to go or what to do.
03:05He was showing our crew the destruction when he found a sign of life in the debris of a neighbor's home.
03:11It was a small Shih Tzu that was mistaken for another dog from the street named Benji.
03:17Benji!
03:18Benji, who we now know is Lulu, survived this storm.
03:22Her owners, who stayed behind, died.
03:26And late today, we reunited little Lulu with the grandson of her late owner and his other dog, Sheba, also found alive in the rubble.
03:36I love you, Lulu.
03:38I'm about to buy in the biggest bed.
03:41A small dog bringing a moment of joy amid devastating loss.
03:45Morgan Reiner, CBS.
03:47Benji looked like, what the hell happened here?
03:50Benji did not know.
03:51I thought that was a nice one.
03:52Yeah.
03:53I thought that was a nice story.
03:54Yeah, me too.
03:56Benji's just with a piece.
03:57Yeah, Benji was sitting there with his dead owners.
04:00Yeah, they died.
04:01They did.
04:01They were both dead inside.
04:03You didn't hear that part?
04:04Lulu survived.
04:05They stayed behind and they died.
04:06Yeah, they died.
04:07And then they found Lulu.
04:10Who they thought was Benji.
04:11Who they thought was Benji.
04:12Does anybody know where Benji is?
04:14Benji is gone.
04:15That's a neighbor dog or something, Benji?
04:16So once again, there's another sad tale to this one.
04:19Oh, my God.
04:20Dave's idea of good stories is getting worse.
04:22They found Benji alive.
04:24Dave's pretty dark.
04:26Yes, the dog was dark.
04:27No, they have not found Benji.
04:29Benji's gone.
04:29They found Lulu.
04:30Is Benji a neighborhood dog, they said?
04:32Yes.
04:32We don't know about Benji.
04:34This is Lulu they found.
04:35Benji is gone.
04:37He was a neighborhood dog.
04:39Yeah, we don't know what happened to Benji.
04:41But we do know that the parents of the dog, that's what I like to call them, died.
04:45Yeah, they did die.
04:46See, I was on such a Lulu high.
04:48Me too.
04:49I didn't even hear that.
04:50I was more focused on who I thought was Benji.
04:52I stopped in my tracks and they said, they both died.
04:55Yeah, they stayed behind.
04:57Here's what happened.
04:58Okay, can I say what happened?
04:59I had another version of this story and I switched it out last minute for a shorter one.
05:04But I didn't listen to this one.
05:06My shorter one was when the actual rescue just happened and it was much more upbeat and less death.
05:12Yes, of course, because in yours, that's why you thought this is Benji, which it's not.
05:18Benji's still missing.
05:19Let us know if you ever find Benji.
05:21Don't say that about Benji.
05:23And Lulu's owners dead in their mobile home.
05:27They do like to wait until the end, though, to throw it in.
05:30Yeah, they do do that.
05:31They catch you.
05:33You're in.
05:33And by the way, everybody passed away.
05:35Yeah.
05:37The dog's really been through it.
05:40Yeah.
05:40And then they gave it to someone who it wasn't for a while.
05:43It wasn't its owners.
05:45And then they threw it back out on the street.
05:47Okay, all right.
05:48Jeez.
05:50Thank you, Dave.
05:52Again, not the story I first previewed.
05:56It was literally happening live and the reporter was like, oh my God, the dog's alive.
06:01It's great the dog's alive.
06:02Yes, it is.
06:03And they're going with a grandson.
06:04Yeah.
06:05See, this is what happens when you make plans every single Friday and Saturday night of your life.
06:09You go dark.
06:10Oh, yeah, that's it.
06:12This is your subconscious.
06:13Dave's dark, I'm telling you.
06:14Yeah.
06:14He's got a little secret dark spot.
06:15Come on.
06:17It's all good.
06:18He's like, let's check you in with a heartwarming story about a dog.
06:22He thinks it's Chuck and Andy who are dark.
06:24Yeah.
06:24No, really.
06:25It's me.
06:26Dark Dave.
06:26He's the one who scares us.
06:28Well, a little dark-sided on this one.
06:31Oh, my God.
06:33It's just the world, Lisa.
06:34It's not Dave.
06:35It's the world around us.
06:36But you pick it.
06:37This is all you choose.
06:39Everything we talk about on this show is your choice.
06:42You want all sunshine and daisies?
06:43You don't.
06:44No, we don't.
06:44You don't.
06:45We don't want all dark.
06:46But, okay, but you have to understand, I know how Dave's brain works.
06:49He's like, okay, the old lady running over the woman and crushing her with her car, that's
06:56pretty dark.
06:56I'll throw this Benji story in the middle, which is a delightful tale of a saved dog.
07:03The people died.
07:04It didn't.
07:05Besides the dog stuff, the people died.
07:08Yeah, but I did not know that.
07:09He didn't know.
07:10And so that didn't become the emotional buffer that us and the entire listening audience needs
07:17before Dave's goes into this terrible story.
07:20We want to laugh.
07:22Yeah, not us.
07:24Well, you won't find that here.
07:26What is it?
07:27What do you got, Dave?
07:27A Turkish airline pilot died mid-flight and they had to land that bitch.
07:31Yep.
07:31He died.
07:32They were next to a dead man.
07:33Here's the story.
07:35This morning, an alarming diversion and emergency landing for an international flight after the
07:41pilot died mid-air.
07:43We lost our, uh, one of our captains.
07:46The Turkish Airlines plane took off Tuesday evening from Seattle, piloted by 59-year-old Ilseon
07:52Pelavan.
07:53Seen in this photo obtained by a state-run news outlet.
07:56The airline saying after four hours of flight time, Pelavan lost consciousness, the initial
08:01medical intervention on board proved ineffective, and our captain passed away before they could
08:07land.
08:07The other crew members quickly rerouting the plane to New York's JFK airport.
08:12Did you require any test?
08:14Negatively, and I'm going to stop on landing.
08:16Turkish Airlines says Pelavan had been flying with the company for more than 15 years.
08:21In March, he had undergone a routine health exam, and no health issues were found that would
08:26have prevented him performing his duties.
08:27All passengers on board were booked on separate flights to Istanbul.
08:32Perhaps fortunate they had an extra pilot on board their initial flight.
08:36On all long-distance flights, there's at least one additional crew member.
08:41If this had been a domestic flight where you have just two pilots on board, it would have been a
08:45little bit dicier because then you would have had to have a single pilot who would have to have
08:50landed that air.
08:51Could have been so much worse.
08:52Played by his or herself.
08:54Now, the cause of death has not yet been revealed.
08:56Pilot deaths are, of course, very rare, but they do happen.
08:59Because of this, all pilots are trained to land a plane by themselves.
09:03Right?
09:03It's always the heart.
09:04I would think so.
09:04Yeah, you would think so.
09:05That guy looks like he's having a heart attack in his photos.
09:07Yeah, he does.
09:08He does.
09:09Like, everything's fine.
09:10You can fly.
09:11Don't worry about it.
09:12Go ahead.
09:12You should.
09:13I got a lot of pain.
09:14I'm having a lot of chest pain.
09:16No, you're good.
09:17We got to get to Seattle, man.
09:19Sometimes when I walk, I...
09:21Yes, no, it's fine.
09:22Listen, we are running behind.
09:23Then I have to sit.
09:24Let's get...
09:25Then I have to sit for a bit.
09:26No, taxi to the runway.
09:28Let's go.
09:28Let's go.
09:29Okay.
09:29I mean, okay.
09:30Here we go.
09:32Meanwhile, I've got some audio here of Dave in his office doing show prep.
09:36Oh, yeah, exactly.
09:39Whatever.
09:39He is an evil emperor.
09:42Horrible.
09:42Listen, you guys.
09:43I was up all night.
09:44I have a 25-pound turkey rotting to death in my house.
09:47I know.
09:47Oh, God.
09:48I'm with it.
09:48Tons are tough.
09:49I like your matter-of-fact intro, too.
09:51You got right to it.
09:52Yeah, that was awesome.
09:53Pilot died on a plane.
09:54Let's get into this one.
09:54He died on the plane.
09:56Matter of fact, I guess.
09:58Here's some good news.
10:00Oh, I...
10:01A Pennsylvania man and his 17-year-old stepson ran into their neighbor's burning house this
10:07week and got her out.
10:09And they also saved two dogs.
10:12Are you sure?
10:12I believe everyone makes it out.
10:14Are you sure?
10:14Did you preview the story?
10:16No, Lisa, it's good.
10:17They saved two of the six dogs.
10:19Stop it.
10:20We'll see.
10:20Don't say that.
10:21Let's see if this is positive.
10:22Yeah.
10:24Here's the story.
10:25How many cats died?
10:26W-G-A-L.
10:27Yeah, I spoke to that 17-year-old after he was released from the hospital today.
10:32He has second-degree burns all over his arms and even some on his face.
10:36Oh, nice, nice, nice.
10:38I mean, wow.
10:39Burns on his face.
10:41He's doing okay.
10:41On his face.
10:41Second-degree burns.
10:42He's okay.
10:44He's okay.
10:45Oh, yeah.
10:46Other people are alive because of him.
10:48Yeah, okay.
10:48He saved.
10:50Oh, there he is again.
10:52There's Dave building a show.
10:54He saved people.
10:55Yeah.
10:56Back to the story, okay.
10:57But he says it just still hasn't hit him yet, that he actually saved someone's life today.
11:03The home sits empty today with busted-out windows, char on the roof, and debris all over the yard.
11:11We heard the fire alarm going off.
11:13I woke up to my mom yelling.
11:15She was like, her house is on fire.
11:16Her house is on fire.
11:17And what happened next is why Josh Jones and his stepdad are now being called heroes.
11:22I don't even know.
11:23I didn't even really think.
11:24I just, like, ran in.
11:25She was conscious, yeah, screaming.
11:27She was pretty badly burned and stuff.
11:29They successfully saved the woman and her two dogs.
11:33He grabbed the dog.
11:34Once the dog went down the stairs, he grabbed it and then gave it to my sister.
11:37The whole house was up in flames by then.
11:39He stands here today humble, but his family is very proud.
11:43It's scary, but he's brave.
11:47He's a brave kid.
11:48He's a brave kid.
11:49Always caring for the next person.
11:52Now you can see the home is boarded up today.
11:55Neighbors tell me two of the homeowner's dogs are still currently missing.
12:00And as for the fire, well, the cause is still-
12:03Oh my God!
12:04I hate calling the thing the right way!
12:07I didn't.
12:08You bastard.
12:09You're a dog-sided predictor.
12:10I hate calling it the right way, but my goodness gracious!
12:14I didn't even stick around for the wrap-up.
12:16What?
12:17Oh my God!
12:17I know you don't have-
12:18You got here early because your refrigerator's-
12:20He had all day!
12:23He had all morning!
12:25He had all morning!
12:26He got here at 1am!
12:28Look, half the dogs survived.
12:30Yeah, that's terrible!
12:32The woman is burned to a crisp.
12:34Neighbors rescue woman, dogs from burning home.
12:36It doesn't say some dogs.
12:37But the headline is not the story.
12:39Can you-
12:40You know how I could tell?
12:41This is how I could tell that this was going to end up bad.
12:44Because the reporter started it like this.
12:48Um, today there was a fire that happened.
12:51Yeah, it wasn't a happy-
12:53There's a hero, there's a kid, everybody's fine.
12:55You lied.
12:56Why do you lie?
12:56Everybody's fine!
12:57This is great!
12:58Yeah, she wasn't able to be-
13:00Look, she's smiling!
13:01Look, smiling!
13:02Well, because they tell them to smile and talk.
13:05No, like, you could tell.
13:07I was like, she's not as excited as you should be for this story.
13:10Because she knew, she had to tell you, the woman is burned to a crisp, and two of the
13:17dogs are dead.
13:18Two of the dogs are dead.
13:19Okay, all right.
13:20And she didn't want to say dead.
13:21We don't know.
13:21They're in a fire!
13:23We don't know.
13:24And the house is destroyed, so you're homeless, you don't have your dogs, and you're all burned
13:28up.
13:28It could have been so much worse!
13:30Let's-
13:30Could have been worse!
13:31Black half full!
13:32Black half full!
13:32Just let me die!
13:34That would be a crazy newscast if they were like, and the woman was burnt to a crisp.
13:38No, they don't say that, but you know, but you know.
13:43Badly burned, they said.
13:45And they didn't want to say two dogs died, they were like, two dogs are current, well,
13:49we just can't, they've been misplaced.
13:51Yeah, right, they don't want to say it.
13:53They don't want to say it.
13:53They took off, they were afraid, they ran out.
13:56No, they didn't.
13:57What you got, Jason?
13:58You just gotta read the, I always read the transcript, because they throw it in at the
14:03very end.
14:04So you just scroll, right, they go blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, and by the way, the woman
14:07is burned and the dogs are missing, but they don't lead with it.
14:10They don't lead with it, it's at the end.
14:13They always slide it in.
14:14I, when I went to journalism school, it was, if it bleeds, it leads.
14:18Yeah, but we're not, this is a journalism thing, we're not journalists, we're just a silly
14:23show.
14:24That's not what I'm saying.
14:25Oh my God, that's wild.
14:27This is where his training really fails him, huh?
14:30That's wild, they train newsmen like Arnold Schwarzenegger.
14:32They do.
14:33They do.
14:34They do.
14:35If it bleeds, it leads.
14:37Yeah.
14:37Yeah.
14:38If he dies, he dies.
14:40I don't know, you guys.
14:42I just, can I go now?
14:43No.
14:44If someone sends Dave anything to, just put if there's a death or something, you know,
14:49like.
14:50Yeah.
14:50Give him a heads up.
14:51Because Dave just reads that, see that bold print?
14:55Rescue!
14:56Dogs!
14:57Well, they do, they will, like, the headline will be like super positive stuff, and then
15:01they're like, oh, so terrible thing.
15:04Because just like anything these days, they just want you to click on it.
15:09They don't care that they ruin your day at the end.
15:11Right.
15:12No, they really don't.
15:12They just want you to click on it.
15:15And they also know, listen, most people, they never get to that bottom part.
15:18They only watch, like, the first 15 seconds of it.
15:22Okay, so can I just recap the story that started this all, that took a dark-sided turn?
15:27And this is the version I watched, okay?
15:30Okay, but we know the version.
15:31Before I replace it, it's better.
15:32This is the version.
15:33We got Benji.
15:34Hold on.
15:35See?
15:35We got Benji.
15:35There's two people dead in that room there.
15:37Okay, but I don't know that.
15:38She doesn't know that they're dead.
15:39And I didn't know.
15:41Yeah.
15:41She didn't know, and I didn't know.
15:43Yeah.
15:44And then you're like, oh, look, this one, a little bit shorter.
15:47Yeah.
15:47Burned.
15:48Burned.
15:49Because you can see, this is like a live report.
15:51Yeah.
15:51I just wanted a condensed version of it.
15:53It looks like she just pulled up, right?
15:55She just pulled up.
15:56So there are dead people in that building.
15:58But I, we did not know that.
16:00Yeah.
16:01At the time of air.
16:03Yeah, I mean, like, the only thing that's off-putting about it is the guy carrying Benji
16:07out didn't look happy.
16:09No, he didn't.
16:10No.
16:10Because he knew.
16:11Yeah, he knew something bad.
16:12I just thought it was because of the destruction.
