00:00A 12-year-old girl was killed in a Russian strike on Ukraine's Dnipropetrovsk region, according to regional authorities.
00:10Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney declares election victory after Poles project its Liberal Party to have won the country's federal election.
00:21A 12-year-old girl was killed and a 6-year-old girl was injured in a Russian strike on Ukraine's Dnipropetrovsk region early on Tuesday.
00:30According to regional authorities, both children became trapped under the rubble of a house that was destroyed, rescuers said.
00:38Moscow is intensifying its attacks across Ukraine, even as it announced a 72-hour ceasefire next week to mark its victory day in World War II.
00:48Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called the proposal a manipulation and urged for a longer one.
00:53Now again, another attempt to manipulate the manipulations.
00:59Why all of us have to wait for 8-year-old?
01:02And only then to stop the fire, to ensure Putin's peace on the time of the parade.
01:09Until now, Russian President Vladimir Putin has refused to accept a complete, unconditional ceasefire, linking it to a halt in Western arms supplies to Ukraine and Kyiv's mobilization effort.
01:36The Prime Minister's Liberal Party has won Canada's federal election, setting the stage for Mark Carney to form a government.
01:49Canadian public broadcaster CBC reports that Carney's Liberal Party is projected to secure 161 out of the 343 parliamentary seats.
01:59The vote marks a stunning defeat for Canada's conservatives, who, under the leadership of Pierre Polyev, were expected to be returned to power after nearly a decade.
02:11However, a diplomatic and trade crisis caused by the second U.S. presidency of Donald Trump undercut their appeal.
02:19Polyev conceded defeat on Tuesday night, while Prime Minister Carney claimed victory and thanked party leaders.
02:26Carney told supporters Canada was now over the shock of American betrayal and vowed its government would work for all.
02:43A blackout in the Iberian Peninsula brought much of Spain and Portugal to a standstill.
02:48Millions were affected across major cities like Madrid, Barcelona, Lisbon and Porto.
02:53In Spain, many say the outage caught them by surprise.
02:57Train stations and telecommunications services experienced major disruptions.
03:25Bank cards were rendered useless, leaving many unable to purchase items like food and water.
03:30And products were quickly running out as consumers resorted to panic purchasing in preparation for a potentially lengthy blackout.
03:38There is no water, no water, no food, no pan and very few things.
03:45If you can see what you can, because everything is empty now.
03:51Well, now in Spain what you see is a great uncertainty against this great apagment.
03:56Well, they have found the plombs.
03:58They are simple, for so to say it, for so to say it, for such a situation.
04:04Like you can see in the street, suministros of gasoline paralysed.
04:09Lavanderías, also paralysed.
04:11The semáforers don't work.
04:14And the majority of people are trying to do it with food.
04:17y los supermercados se están viendo desabastecidos porque no se sabe qué es lo que va a ocurrir
04:23de aquí a unas horas. Juan Carlos de Santos, desde Madrid, para Euronews.
04:32European Council President Antonio Costa is on a three-day visit to Bulgaria,
04:37where he toured the Arsenal Factory, a Bulgarian firearms and ammunition manufacturer.
04:42He said Bulgaria could have a key role in supplying European defence capabilities,
04:48adding that investment in defence would also drive competitiveness.
04:52Arsenal Factory is a very good example of the link between defence and competitiveness,
04:59and in particular our Bulgarian defence industry, with its unique historical and regional know-how
05:06is contributing to Europe's support for Ukraine.
05:10Costa stressed that the security of Europe and Ukraine cannot be separated,
05:15calling for all European member states to increase their defence capacities.
05:19He also mentioned how his visit comes at a significant time for Bulgaria,
05:24as it has joined the Schengen area and prepares to join the Eurozone.
05:31Friedrich Marx is closer to becoming German Chancellor,
05:34after a CDU party approved a coalition deal with the Social Democrats on Monday.
05:39The agreement now needs approval from the Social Democrat Party members,
05:43with results expected on Wednesday.
05:44representing around 12% of its members,
05:48the SPD youth group has come out forcefully against the agreement,
05:52particularly objecting to its strict migration measures and social policy concerns.
05:57If the SPD agrees to join the coalition,
06:00parliament will vote on electing Maers as chancellor on May 6th.
06:04The planned coalition aims to boost the economy and defence,
06:08but holds a slim majority.
06:09If elected by parliament,
06:12Maers will become the 10th post-war German chancellor
06:15and his party will get 7 out of 17 members of the cabinet.
06:21The SPD will also get 7 ministerial positions
06:23and the remaining 3 will go to CSU.
06:26This Tuesday marks exactly six months since the Dana floods occurred,
06:36impacting a number of villages in the outskirts of Valencia,
06:39like Aldaya, where I'm standing now.
06:42227 people lost their lives during those floods
06:45and thousands of businesses and homes were destroyed.
06:49Today here, the feeling is one of hope,
06:51as some businesses have managed to reopen,
06:54but also of emotional exhaustion and anxiety
06:57and fear that the Dana could one day occur again.
07:01We had the opportunity to speak to Eva Lexcano,
07:03an entrepreneur and young mother here in the town.
07:06It's been hard.
07:07I won't be kidding you.
07:08It's been very hard months.
07:09Now it's true that we are getting tired of these six months
07:13because we, apart from my business,
07:16we lost our house and the house is still with the reforms and other things.
07:20But in terms of the study,
07:22I'm very happy, I'm very happy, because the response of the people
07:25of the people of the Adana have been brutal.
07:28Everyone has come with many wishes, with many wishes of normality,
07:31especially because after seeing a people devasted,
07:34these things, at the end, it's what you ask for the body,
07:36to return to normality, to do the things that we always do.
07:38We don't ask more.
08:05More than 100 billion euros a year.
08:18That's the cost of work-related depression in the European Union,
08:21according to a study published on Monday by the European Trade Union Institute.
08:26The think tank identifies five psychological risks at the root of this mental illness.
08:31Stress at work, long working hours, job insecurity,
08:35imbalance between effort and reward, and moral harassment.
08:38These risks can have tragic consequences according to available data dating back to 2015.
08:44We estimated that the death toll again in 2015 for the whole EU 28 countries
08:57was approximately 6,000 of coronary heart diseases which were attributable to psychosocial risks exposure
09:06and over 5,000 deaths due to suicide caused by depression attributable to five different factors, psychosocial risk factors.
09:22In the same year, more than 400,000 lives were lost due to cardiovascular disease
09:27and depression caused by these work-related psychosocial risks, according to the report.
09:32Deaths that could be avoided, deaths that could be avoided, the study's authors say.
09:37France, Belgium, Finland, Ireland, and the Netherlands are the five most affected countries
09:42in terms of cost per 100,000 workers, a cost passed on to society.
09:47So for both diseases, we found that the highest burden was for employees, but also for employers.
09:57And in particular, with the costs of depression, we see that we can estimate
10:05that over 80% of the total cost of depression attributable to psychosocial risks at work in 2015 in Europe,
10:16it was paid by employers due to lack of productivity and decrease in productivity
10:22caused by sickness, absence, and presentism.
10:27Sometimes employees are indeed present at work, but ill or exhausted and therefore underperforming,
10:34which ultimately costs the company.
10:35The European Trade Union Institute therefore calls on the European Commission
10:39to present a text to prevent these psychosocial risks, a text which should also guide employers.
10:45Russian firefighting air tankers dropped more than 100 tons of water at Iran's largest container port
10:56after a massive explosion last Saturday killed over 70 people.
11:02According to the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations,
11:05two Russian air tankers dropped more than 130 tons of water.
11:09Earlier, Iranian officials announced that the fire had been extinguished.
11:14Some of those killed in the blast reportedly included truck drivers, port workers,
11:20and a newlywed couple.
11:22Around 1,000 others were left injured.
11:25Reports suggested the blast occurred as the port took in a chemical component
11:30needed for solid fuel for ballistic missiles, something that Iranian authorities have denied.
11:36Iran's Interior Ministry on Monday blamed noncompliance with safety precautions and negligence
11:43as having caused the explosion.
