00:00Hi there, with cloud free skies for the vast majority this week, temperatures have been
00:04rising day by day and the heat continues to build for the last day of April and the first
00:08day of May. Widely sunny skies across the country, just some patchy high cloud across
00:13Scotland and Northern Ireland and the chance of the odd shower developing as the afternoon
00:18progresses for Northern Ireland and parts of Northern Scotland. Otherwise it is another
00:23warm or very warm day across many parts of the UK. I think for Scotland and Northern
00:28Ireland temperatures will widely reach the low to mid 20s and it's worth noting that
00:33the April temperature record for Northern Ireland is 24 and a half degrees. That's
00:38possibly under threat for Wednesday afternoon. Likewise the Welsh April
00:43temperature record is 26.2 Celsius and that is also under threat. But the UK
00:50national April record 29.4 Celsius unlikely to be broken because temperatures more
00:58likely to reach 27 perhaps 28 Celsius somewhere between London and Bristol.
01:03However widely we're expecting the mid 20s through much of Central and Northern
01:08England into parts of Wales and in places 26 Celsius as well. But either way it is a
01:15very warm day to come across the majority of the UK. However some changes are taking
01:23place as we go into the evening. A cold front starts to move into the north and
01:27northwest of Scotland. That's going to bring some showery rain with it and some thickening
01:30cloud layers. As that arrives it's going to keep temperatures elevated through the
01:35night across parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland. Elsewhere temperatures will be very
01:39variable overnight in some sheltered rural spots dipping as low as the low single
01:44figures. But in urban areas perhaps the mid-teens and in some parts for example coastal
01:50parts of North and West Wales temperatures could hold up at 16 or even 17 Celsius. Remarkably
01:56warm for the first morning of May. But big temperature contrast by the time we get to the afternoon
02:02as this cold front sinks south. It's going to bring showers to Scotland and Northern Ireland during
02:07the morning and by the afternoon as it pushes into southern England, southern Scotland and
02:12northern England, the chance of the old thunderstorm developing on that. Also as the heat builds across
02:18parts of central England and Wales, chance of the old thunderstorm developing later in the afternoon.
02:23Very isolated, most places staying dry and very warm or hot in places once again.
02:2929 Celsius the most likely afternoon high for the first of May and that again London to Bristol the
02:35hot spot. But it's a significant cooling off across Scotland and Northern Ireland as the cold front comes
02:42south. Low to mid-teens more likely and showers pushing into the northwest of Scotland as the day goes on.
02:48A couple of showers further south as well because of the remaining heat. But it's all changed going into
02:55Friday and the weekend. Some heat lingering in the far south east on Friday. That's all gone by the bank
03:00holiday weekend. Despite cooler weather expected, it's still going to be largely settled on Saturday,
03:06Sunday and Monday.
