00:46Hello and welcome to From the South. My name is Belen de los Santos. I'm from Motele Sur Studios in Havana, Cuba. We begin with the news.
00:57We now begin with the information. U.S. President Donald Trump held a rally in Michigan on Tuesday to mark the first 100 days of his second term in office as the nation's economy reports a fall amid his sweeping tariffs.
01:20This rally was his largest public event since returning to the White House in a state that has been especially rocked by his steep trade tariffs and combative attitude towards Canada.
01:31At the event, Trump celebrated what he called the most successful 100 days in office, despite polls revealing a wide dissatisfaction with his management so far.
01:42The rally came at a time when U.S. consumer confidence has reportedly plummeted to its lowest levels in five years over concerns about the impact of his global trade war.
01:54And in other news, Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro met on Tuesday in Caracas with Grenada's Prime Minister Deacon Mitchell as part of the latter's official visit to the Bolivarian nation.
02:12The meeting provided the opportunity for both nations to strengthen their bilateral relations with the signing of agreements and the definition of a roadmap to achieve economic complementarity between both countries.
02:26The Prime Minister of Grenada praised that he described as win-win relations with Venezuela, which were also characterized by their cordial, fraternal and friendly nature.
02:37On the other hand, President Maduro stressed that the visit of the Grenada leader represented an additional incentive to continue advancing in the sheer development of the mutual benefit and increasingly powerful union of the Caribbean region.
02:54We have had a long conversation, sharing the criteria and the vision we have of today's world, sharing the vision we have of our region and the challenges that Latin America,
03:18the Caribbean, the Caribbean, the Caribbean, and our two countries face for their development in the years to come.
03:26We have reviewed in detail the agreements which, more than protocol agreements,
03:37Comrade Mitchell,
03:38are plans for joint action between the governments and peoples of Grenada and Venezuela.
03:46And we continue in the region as the government of Venezuela congratulated Trinidad and Tobago after its election day last April 28th,
03:57where the leader of the Congress of National Unity Party, Kamala Persadvi Cesar, was selected as the new Prime Minister of this nation.
04:05The Bolivarian government congratulated Persadvi Cesar for her triumph and also highlighted that during her last mandate,
04:13both nations consolidated solid ties of cooperation and understanding based on mutual respect and common interests in the welfare of their peoples.
04:23In the sense, the statement stressed that Venezuela reiterates its commitment to the continuity of joint projects,
04:30especially in the area of energy, security, ensuring a reliable gas supply for Trinidad and Tobago,
04:37which will continue to contribute to the sustained development of this country and the entire Caribbean region.
04:45Also in Venezuela, citizens commemorated on Wednesday the comprehensive actions led by the Civic, Military and Police Union,
04:59which followed the Coupa Tent of April 30th, 2019.
05:03At the event, the United Socialist Party of Venezuela's Secretary General Diosdado Cabello highlighted that on April 30th of 2019,
05:11the people proved their patriotism by having defended heroically the revolution.
05:17Cabello recalled that they faced that day the same far-right groups which have attacked the government many times.
05:25The leader further noted that the opposition received on April 30th the help of some senior officials who committed treason.
05:32Likewise, the Secretary General praised the commitment of not only the Bolivarian National Armed Forces and police corps,
05:39but also the people stressing that the three forces united bravely in defense of the revolution.
05:47In other news, BRICS foreign ministers met for the second day in Rio de Janeiro.
06:04During the gathering, they criticized the United States' protectionist and unilateral measures,
06:09as well as the increase in tariffs imposed on countries around the world.
06:13The diplomatic leaders of the integrationist bloc rejected the increase in coercive measures imposed on governments
06:20that do not respond to Washington's interests.
06:24The foreign ministers expressed their concern about the political and economic tensions
06:28that have been generated at global level as a result of Trump's tariff war.

06:38at the next BRICS summit in July, where the World Trade Organization will be ratified
06:43as the only organization that can establish the rules of the multilateral system.

07:58a special interview with Granada's Prime Minister, Dickon Mitchell.
08:01It will be broadcast at 6.30 p.m. Keto Time and 7.30 p.m. Caracas, New York and Havana Time.
08:08We'll be right back, stay with us.
08:25Welcome back to From the South.
08:27Spain is recovering from the massive power outage that left a large part of the country
08:32without electricity or internet connection.
08:35Traders and workers are trying to get back to normal.
08:38Now let's see more details with our correspondent Andres Flores.
08:44Power outage left a large part of the country for long hours to return to their homes.
08:49It affected me when it was time to go back, because the train was not working.
08:58So I walked from Placa, Catalonia to Fabra and Puig, 45 minutes.
09:04And I found a group of people who were also going to my area, where I live.
09:09And from there to wait in line and everything to catch a bus, to catch another bus.
09:14So that finally my family would come to pick me up in granolas.
09:19So all in all it was about five hours traveling.
09:23The president of the Spanish government demanded responsibility from the private operators for the blackout
09:30and stressed that it can never happen again.
09:33Many workers were surprised by the outage at their workplaces, like Ignacio.
09:37We were on a construction site, and it caught us.
09:43The blackout meant that we had no more light, no electricity, no energy.
09:49Then, when I went outside, I saw that everything was the same.
09:53Everything had gone out.
09:55Even the phones.
09:57Barcelona tries to recover normality.
10:00After this massive blackout, some shopkeepers have told us that they have had to throw away the products they had
10:05and others are trying to calculate today what their losses have been.
10:08We met Andrew, a neighborhood merchant affected by the blackout.
10:12Andrew, like so many others, is trying to get back to normal today.
10:17It is a fruit and vegetables trade.
10:20We had a good start to the day yesterday.
10:22We just unloaded and suddenly the power went out,
10:27which prevented us from weighing with the scales and so on.
10:31So we couldn't do much business.
10:33Andrew, like so many others, is trying to get back to normal today.
10:38Well, at the beginning not many people came,
10:43but now all the people who came during the blackout have started to come and,
10:47well, I guess today we are going to have to work extra.
10:52Today everything is normal, yes, everything is very good.
10:54A judge of the national court will investigate a possible cyber attack,
11:01although the company Red Electrica rules it out.
11:03The reasons for the power outage remain to be clarified.
11:06André Flores, Telesur, Barcelona.
11:08A judge terrorist group, alias IS, West Africa Province, claimed accountability of having planted Monday's bombs along a busy route in northeastern Nigeria.
11:22As a result of the blast, some 26 people were reportedly dead, including women and children,
11:28in addition to several injured authorities unfolded that fatal victims were mostly traders and farmers who were on a Toyota pickup van that drove over a landmine on the road,
11:41which connects Rana and Gamburu towns in Borno, northeastern state.
11:47They further specified that some three wounded were taken to nearby health care centers for treatment.
11:52In this context, the National Security Agency revealed the main target of the attack were security agents who regularly patrolled the roads.
12:01Moreover, they said that to have secured the area and opened investigations.
12:11And the government of Mali, Burkina Faso and Nishar, welcomed a proposal from Morocco,
12:17which seeks to provide them access to global trade through the Moroccan Atlantic ports.
12:22The Moroccan foreign ministry ensured that the top senior diplomats of the three landlocked nations
12:28accepted such opportunity for boosting their local economies after having met with King Mohamed VI.
12:37Those countries of the Sahel region left the economic community of West African states last year
12:43to create their own security association, the Alliance of Sahel States.
12:48Subsequently, Mali, Burkina Faso and Nishar have phased out their military deals with France
12:53and increased their relations with Russia in several areas.
13:02And Vietnam held a military parade and procession in Ho Chi Minh City
13:06to mark the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification
13:11attended by the country's top leaders.
13:14The event brought together some 13,000 people, including squadrons of helicopters and fighter
13:20planes, which flew over the metropolis, waving the flag of the Communist Party of Vietnam.
13:26These elaborations began last April 19th, when the party leader held a meeting with war heroes
13:32who attended a military operation that opened the era of reunification, peace and development
13:38in the country 50 years ago.
13:40The achievement, he stressed, was the crystallization of the blood and sacrifice
13:44of millions of compatriots and fighters from all over the country.
13:53We have a second show break coming up, but before, once again, we invite you to watch
13:57on Wednesday, April 30th, our special interview with Granada's Prime Minister, Dickon Mitchell.
14:02It will be broadcast at 6.30 p.m., Quito time and 7.30 p.m., Caracas, New York and Havana time.
14:10Final short break, don't go away.
14:32Welcome back to From the South.
14:35In Palestine, at least 23 people were killed and others were injured in a series of recent attacks
14:41carried out by the Israeli occupation forces in the Gaza Strip.
14:45According to local media reports, a new aggression killed two girls in Jawalia Al-Wallar
14:49and a child and a pregnant woman in Al-Sawara.

15:06of over 52,400 people, most of them women and children, while thousands of bodies remain
15:15buried under the rubble.
15:23In this context, the International Court of Justice, the ICJ, began its third day of hearings
15:29and Israel's humanitarian obligations to Palestinians, 60 days after the complete siege
15:35of the entry of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.
15:38The 15-judge panel will hear from some 40 nations and organizations, including the League
15:43of Arab States, their non-binding advisory opinions on Israel's responsibility to ensure
15:49the provision of basic supplies to Gaza.
15:51The U.S. and Hungarian representatives have taken a pro-Israeli stance and they are expected
15:58to declare Wednesday at the ICJ.
16:01Earlier, South African diplomat Saint-Dangor stated on Tuesday that under the watchful eye
16:07of the world, Palestinians have been subjected to atrocities, crimes, persecution, apartheid
16:12and genocide.
16:20And the United Nations described as alarming the statements of the Israeli government on
16:26the use of humanitarian aid as a tool for military pressure in the Gaza Strip.
16:30During a meeting of the U.N. Security Council, the U.N. Secretary General, Antonio Guterres,
16:35reminded Israel that it has an obligation to protect civilians in the Gaza Strip.
16:39His statements come in the wake of a dramatic increase in the looting of humanitarian aid
16:44in the coastal enclave amid persistent bombardments.
16:49As part of its actions, Israel cut off the electricity supply to a desalination plant and closed the entrance
16:55of trucks carrying humanitarian aid to Palestinian territory, promoting famine in the Strip.
17:09We now move on to other topics.
17:11Tensions keep growing between India and Pakistan as Islamabad government denounced the New Delhi,
17:17is planning a military attack in the next 36 hours and warns of retaliation.
17:23Precisely, Pakistan's Information Minister Atullah Tarar said that the government has credible information
17:29that India intends to attack Pakistan in the next 24 to 36 hours.
17:35The official also added that any act of aggression will be met with a strong response,
17:41holding India responsible for the possible consequences in the region.
17:45These statements come amid tensions between the two Asian powers following the terrorist attack
17:51in Falgam in the Indian region of Kashmir, which caused the death of 26 people.
17:57And we stay in India as at least 14 people also lost their lives on Tuesday night when a fire broke out
18:11at a hotel in the city of Kolkata.
