00:00We are back and John Bowers also in the back of the group for race two. This is the reason why. Contact with Todd Kelly late in race one and that's a very high speed collision around 260 kilometers an hour. Both of them lucky not to sustain more damage. Here is what happened in race one. Tanda going from position 10 to 5. Larry Perkins from 2 all the way back to 11th and Russell Ingle because of that gearbox trouble from 3rd to 33rd. Let's go to Mark Osler.
00:30Well I'm here with a very happy Paul Radisic second heat win for 2000. Paul at Eastern Creek you got the jump on them and basically boxed them in but it called the park today you beat them on sheer pace. Yeah which is you know fantastic and it was nice to be able to dictate the race and lead it in my own fashion so I'm very pleased to do that and as you said before I didn't have to run around the front trying to hold everybody up.
00:51Now we heard you talking to the boys on the radio after you crossed the line. Some sort of problem with the transmission?
00:56Yeah a lot of transmission noise. Another lap and I think it may have come to a grinding halt but we'll go back and change some of the transmission drive train and see if that'll be okay for heat two.
01:05Hopefully your luck's turning around today. Best of luck.
01:08Well you've got to make your own luck but I'm sure it is. Thanks Mark.
01:10Here is the guy we are all looking forward to seeing in action at the Honda Indy 300 on the Gold Coast in October. This marvellous shot of Jason Bright in action in the Stone Brothers Ford Falcon could be yours and hanging on the wall at home.
01:23Just call the number there on the bottom of your screen.
01:26Well this is the grid for race two. Mark Larkham on pole. The comeback man. Garth Tander alongside him. Stephen Richards and Craig Lowndes on row two. Don't forget they reversed the top six here.
01:36And Mark Scaife and Paul Radisic our race one winner as you can see will start from position six.
01:41Stephen Ellery and Glenn Seaton behind that inverted grid. Greg Murphy and Tony Longhurst. If you look down the right hand side of your screen that shows where the car's qualified.
01:48And of course their grid positions are determined by the results from race one. So you can see how they're going throughout the day. Cameron McLean.
01:55Qualified 22nd. Got his way up to 17th. All the way down to Trevor Ashby in 24th position.
02:01Further back there. Todd Kelly. You can see after that altercation with John Bauer who is actually at the very back of the grid with this one.
02:08There was quite a lengthy stewards hearing post race one and they have decided after that contact that Bauer was to be penalised and he will start from the rear.
02:16Yeah. Incidentally that was a differential on Bradisic's car that disintegrated.
02:22They have replaced that in between race one and race two.
02:26Look at that car sitting in behind row four there. The super cheap autos car.
02:30Stephen Ellery is very happy today. The car's performing very well.
02:34Looking for a good result here this afternoon.
02:36Look at that front row of the grid. Mark Larkham really has been the man in the spotlight at the moment.
02:41There's the green light. We're ready for the start.
02:42Set to go for the reverse grid second race. Round 10 of the Shell Championship Series.
02:48Will it be Tanda? Will it be Larkham?
02:50Listen to the revs of the big V8 supercars. Flames out the side of Tanda's car. Tanda takes off.
02:54In race two he is away. A good start also by Stephen Richards. He's like a lightning bolt.
02:59Larkham will shut the door on him as they head towards turn one and makes it tough for Richards.
03:04Larkham leads the way. Richards has snuck up into second.
03:06Tanda's hanging out wide late under brakes from GT.
03:08That's a big move from Tanda. It's going to get stuck right out there.
03:14Oh, it just about went through.
03:15Paul Wheel going right out in the dust as he gets the power down.
03:18Coming out of turn one.
03:20Everyone leaning on each other.
03:21A very narrow strip of bitumen through here as they head up over the rows for the first time.
03:25Looks like a relatively clean start.
03:26But Mark Larkham finished sixth, then hit one.
03:30He gets pole position for heat two and he's using it to good advantage here as they thunder out the back straight for the first time.
03:36Oh, I was just going to say, England's enjoyed himself way back there.
03:40Great start by Stephen Richards in the Kmart Commodore.
03:43He leapt off that second row.
03:44Forced his way up the inside.
03:46Now he finds himself in second position.
03:47It's got Garth Tanda in third.
03:48The two Holden Racing Team Commodores running bumper to bumper.
03:51And the shelf order, Paul Radisic.
03:52Which, marvellous start by Mark Larkham.
03:55He leads the way.
03:56One of the Optus Commodores off to the side of the road there.
03:59I think that was Trevor Ashby's car.
04:01260 Ks on the approach to turn one.
04:04Hard under brakes as they come over the bumps here.
04:06Look at Richards.
04:06Have a look at the inside of the Mitre 10 Ford as we go on board with Mark Larkham.
04:11And you can feel the heat from that Kmart car as he gets right up behind the Ford coming out of turn one.
04:16Mitre 10 in car camera taking it for a ride.
04:18Little lock break there by Richards as the car gets unloaded that way.
04:21The Holden Racing Team duo locked in behind.
04:23Good battle going on.
04:24Just in behind this group between the Greek Murphy and Stephen Ellery.
04:28Murphy at 8th, Ellery at 9th.
04:29There they are.
04:29They flash past us.
04:30Now look at Larkham.
04:31He's cleared out of there.
04:32Tanda all over the back of Stephen Richards in the Kmart Commodore.
04:36And what a wonderful return to racing this has been for the whole Mitre 10 team.
04:39You jump aboard.
04:40Our Mitre 10 on board camera takes you right in and shows you Mark Larkham at work.
04:46He is actually wearing, folks, he's actually wearing a motocross style kidney belt.
04:50He's wearing it backwards so that when they strap down those harnesses, his hurt ribs won't feel so much pain as he's racing here today after that big accident at Orrin Park.
04:58No shortage of top-end power.
05:00Mark Larkham stretches the legs of the big Ford V8.
05:02Now he hard on the brakes over the bumps.
05:04A little lock rack on the outside.
05:06Another tack.
05:06Oh, did you hear that?
05:09Yeah, big tyre squeal.
05:11Usually hold our breath when that happens.
05:12We think someone spun, but Larkham now has opened up 2-3.
05:15Tanda's struggling to get past Stephen Richards.
05:18He really needs to get past it because he looks like he's getting held up.
05:222-3, even 4 car lengths over his pursuers.
05:25Larkham, fastest man on the track, 57.55.
05:28They said they'd lap in the mid to low 57s.
05:31Well, they're delivering that here.
05:33This battle of three Commodores, four Commodores now in a Falcon sandwich.
05:37Unless you get a really good run onto the straight here, Mark, there's not really a lot of places to pass, is there?
05:43Basically, the end of the straight is just about the only run.
05:47That corner coming onto the main straight is critical.
05:49Because if you get a good run on a car in front of you, even 2 or 3 metres faster, you can carry that extra speed all the way down.
05:56On board with Craig Lowndes.
05:57Sitting in behind Garth Tanda.
06:00As they thunder down the main straight.
06:02Hard on the brakes.
06:03Really hard on the brakes this place.
06:05As they brake from 260 kilometres an hour to this very slow corner.
06:08Oh, what's going on here?
06:09Rodney Forbes.
06:10Yeah, he's obviously touched somebody there.
06:12Smoke belching from the front right wheel.
06:15John Bauer sneaks up the inside as he continues his fight.
06:18Through from the back of the grid.
06:20Talking of those people fighting through.
06:22Bauer's moved up to 27th position from the rear.
06:24And Russell Ingle from 33rd to position 24.
06:27So those guys really starting to carve up through the film.
06:30Larcombe, not surprisingly either, is the fastest man on the circuit.
06:33A 57.04.
06:35And the minor 10.4.
06:36And gee, it looks, this is a brand new car.
06:38Don't lose sight of that.
06:39Untried virtually and untested.
06:40They had a very brief session on the lead up to this race.
06:44They just managed to get a test day in.
06:46And boy, oh boy, hasn't it been such an amazing debut?
06:50Trouble there for McDonough.
06:51A little bit further back in the pack.
06:53But Mark, Mark Larkham is knocking on the door of a sub 50 second lap here.
06:57He's done a 57.14.
06:59He just lost a tenth of a second that time around.
07:01But he is doing very, very fast consistent laps.
07:04We've got dramas.
07:05Rodney Forbes involved again.
07:06We just saw smoke puffing from his front wheel a few laps ago.
07:10He's been involved with a tangle with the Toll Express car.
07:14So Anthony Tratt gets back into the action.
07:16But this is outstanding performance by the minor 10.4.
07:19Here's the battle for fastest laps.
07:20Stephen Richards has dug a little deeper.
07:2257.01.
07:24Very close to that sub 57 second lap.
07:29Oh, look at Craig Baird.
07:33McDonough are the loser of that argument.
07:35That's how he ended up on the grass.
07:37A little earlier on.
07:39A little help from the rear.
07:40Outstanding performance, this from the minor 10.4 team.
07:43Mark Larkham, the 36-year-old, originally from Sydney,
07:46now resides on the Gold Coast with his own minor 10 team operation up there.
07:50Yeah, Richards is really on it now, isn't he?
07:52He's going.
07:53He seems to have gone a lot quicker than he was.
07:55They're certainly getting some more speed out of these cars.
07:58Their race speed always hasn't been that bad,
07:59but their qualifying speed has been so poor
08:01that you never really get to see them strutting their stuff with the leaders.
08:04And it was only really in the endurance races.
08:06And they had a chance to run at the front.
08:08Here's Rodney Forbes trying to claw his way back onto the track.
08:10So he's really been in the wars, young Rodney.
08:14Talked there about...
08:14Oh, Paul Morris.
08:17Squeeze up the inside of the big Kev car.
08:19Oh, that was...
08:20Oh, that was...
08:22Now, these two, don't forget,
08:24are tuning up for the upcoming endurance races.
08:26So, in the Winds Commodore.
08:30Oh, wowee.
08:32Trattie was trying to follow him through.
08:35Got the door shut.
08:36Paid the penalty.
08:38You talk about Stephen Richards there before Mark and just how...
08:40Oh, Brad Jones.
08:43Damaged front left suspension on the Aussie male Ford.
08:45Keep your radio on.
08:49I'll have a look at it and I'll report back.
08:51Keep your radios on.
08:53So, Brad just talking to his brother Kim, the team manager.
08:56Telling him to give him a report on just the level of damage on the Aussie male Falcon.
09:00Looks like Brad's...
09:02OK.
09:02Oh, damage here.
09:03Damn, there you go.
09:04Ben Seton.
09:08Well, they said these new Ford spoilers were indestructible.
09:12Well, it hasn't broken the spoiler,
09:13but the actual spoiler's broken away from the car.
09:15You have to say it looks quite funny, doesn't it, really?
09:17Sitting out there.
09:18Word we hear from the pits is there may have been some sort of contact
09:21between Greg Murphy and Glenn Seton there,
09:23the catalyst for Seton losing the new Tiger front bumper.
09:27He heads to the pits in between.
09:29So, Larkham, who is really trying in the Mitre 10 forward,
09:32continues to muscle the car around.
09:34He's pushing hard.
09:35Isn't he what?
09:3657.11, so he's still hovering around that low 57-second bracket.
09:40We go on board with Mark Larkham.
09:42A study of concentration from that camera
09:44staring right into his face through the visor of his helmet
09:46as he hammers down the main straight once again.
09:50Hard under brakes at the end.
09:51There's the colour scan falcon of Rick Bates,
09:54brother of three-times Australian Rally champion Neil.
09:56Rod Nash there as well has had an excursion.
09:58There's some damage to that car, the Autopro Commodore.
10:01This is the brand-new car.
10:02It may look like the one Cameron McConville was campaigning for a while,
10:05but McConville in the Repco car has had a repaint.
10:08That's a brand-new car for Rod Nash.
10:12Larkham continues to lead.
10:15Don't forget, Mark Larkham has actually never won a race
10:18in the Shell Championship Series.
10:19His best-ever result is a third in championship racing terms.
10:23He has, of course, dominated the support races to India
10:26a couple of years ago there.
10:27Fastest man on the track at the moment is Paul Radisson.
10:30She's back in six.
10:31They've just done a 57-d to 57-0-0 for the Shell Ford.
10:36Just goes to show when you get caught back in the package
10:38some of these cars are lapping faster than our race leader.
10:41Oh!
10:42That's how he ended up.
10:44That was a bit ambitious, I think, wasn't it?
10:45Ever so slightly.
10:47If he'd have done it, we'd have called him Houdini, actually.
10:49Oh, Todd Kelly.
10:51He's already in trouble with John Bauer in race one.
10:54Trouble continues for the Holden Young Lions driver in race two.
10:58This is the battle for the front.
10:59It's currently Larkham.
11:001.3 seconds, the gap over Stephen Richards at the Kmart Commodore.
11:03Then it's Garth Tander, Lounscape.
11:06Radisic in there too.
11:07It shows what you're saying, Mark.
11:09It's orrid about the qualifying thing, how important it is.
11:13If you look now, Radisic, I mean, he's back there
11:16and it doesn't look like he's got a hoping L's chance of getting past.
11:19Talk about people climbing.
11:20Oh, Dougal McDougal, that's a big one there.
11:23Now, what's happened?
11:24That looks like something's let go.
11:25Yeah, it does.
11:26I thought it might have been from the spin to begin with.
11:28No, he's continuing.
11:29So, what else?
11:30Oh, I think he probably was trying to light it up.
11:33Oh, yeah, another...
11:34Now, that's Cameron Sporer on a claim's car.
11:37Now, he is actually running the old-style front bumper this weekend.
11:42Those of you following the progress of Russell Ingle
11:45from the back of the grid
11:46has moved inside the top 20 in the Castrol Commodore.
11:49In fact, now up to 17th.
11:50So, that's a stalling drive from 33rd.
11:54Yeah, this is why there has been so much criticism
11:57of the old established 20-minute sprint race format.
12:01There's Cameron out of the car.
12:03This is the problem you see.
12:04It's just so much a qualifying battle.
12:07You know, wherever you start,
12:07wherever you leap into that first corner,
12:09particularly on a track like Calder,
12:10it's pretty much where you stay for the rest of the day.
12:12When you get a longer race
12:14and you can mix in pit stops, tyre changes, safety cars,
12:17all sorts of strategy,
12:18you start to get a bit of variety.
12:20Cameron McClain, who we saw on the side of the road there,
12:22will be teaming up with Paul Radisic
12:23in the upcoming Queensland 500.
12:25And Dick Johnson making a one-off return
12:27for that event as well.
12:28If you haven't heard,
12:29he will be teaming up with Stephen for that one.
12:31He's not coming out of retirement.
12:32It's just a one-off.
12:33Jason Bright is in the States
12:34and campaigning in Indy Lions
12:36and can't come back for that race.
12:37So Dick is coming out of retirement.
12:394-0-1 off.
12:41Another replay.
12:43This is how Cameron came to grief.
12:44There goes his front spoiler.
12:46Oh!
12:47What happened there?
12:50And all sorts of elbowing going on back in the pack.
12:52Todd Kelly's been in the thick of it.
12:53Let's have a look at the hullabut.
12:54Oh, that's where I'm sitting there.
13:03Well, there's lots of incidents happening here
13:05at Calder Park right now.
13:07Mark Larkin leads the way.
13:08Could he be on course
13:09for his first ever race victory
13:12in the Shell Championship Series?
13:13We will find out on the other side of this at the moment.
13:15He's top of the table from Richards.
13:17Garth Tan to Craig Lowndes.
13:18They're in fourth position.
13:19Championship leader Mark Scaife in fifth.
13:21And our race one winner,
13:22Paul Radisic, is in sixth position.
13:24Stephen Ellery doing a fine job there
13:25in the Super Cheap Autos Falcon as well
13:27in seventh place
13:28just ahead of Tony Longhurst.
13:30We go through the back.
13:30Murphy has made his way up to ninth.
13:32Neil Compton in tenth.
13:33And there's still lots more coming your way.
13:34Find out if Markham can do it
13:36on the other side of this.
13:45Nice to have you with us
13:46wherever you're watching
13:47right around Australia
13:48through Network 10
13:49or for our Kiwi viewers
13:51watching through TV1 in New Zealand.
13:53This is round 10
13:54of the Shell Championship Series
13:56coming to you
13:56from Calder Park Raceway
13:58to the north-west
13:59of Melbourne
14:00in Victoria.
14:01And at the moment
14:02Mark Larkham
14:03is showing the way
14:04and what a fantastic performance
14:06this has been.
14:07He's yet to win a race
14:08as we mentioned
14:09in the Shell Championship Series.
14:11This is a brand new car.
14:13The highs and lows
14:14of motorsport.
14:14I know he's not there yet
14:15but let's certainly hope
14:16he can do it.
14:17The Mitre 10 team
14:17thoroughly deserve this
14:19if they can pull it off, Mark.
14:20Yeah, it's been a long, long wait,
14:21hasn't it?
14:22Came into the championship
14:23back in 1995
14:24and really has been a struggle.
14:28This is his 60th championship
14:30or Shell Championship start.
14:33He's had one pole position.
14:34That was, of course,
14:35that phenomenal lap
14:36at Bathurst last year.
14:37He's been on the podium
14:38once as well.
14:38That was a tremendous effort
14:41but this is his first
14:43Shell race win
14:45that he's staring down
14:46the barrel of right now.
14:47He's been maintaining
14:48the gap over Stephen Richards.
14:501.25 seconds
14:51that last time around
14:52so it's been hovering
14:53around 1.2, 1.3 seconds.
14:55His lap time's very consistent.
14:58Stephen Richards
14:59has not been able
15:01to answer that.
15:01He's just
15:02two one-hundredths
15:03of a second slower
15:04that time around
15:04but he cannot close the gap
15:05to the Mitre 10 forward
15:06at this stage.
15:07You'd have to say
15:07that absolutely no one
15:08would begrudge Larkham
15:10for win, would they?
15:11Because I think
15:12he's done a fantastic job
15:13when you think
15:13for Mitre 10
15:14he's never won one
15:15but he's got an awful
15:16lot of publicity
15:17hasn't he?
15:17Very likable guy too
15:19works very, very hard
15:20has had a lengthy
15:21association with Mitre 10
15:22it dates back to his
15:23days in Formula Holden
15:25and it'd be great
15:26to see him do it.
15:27Garth Tander there
15:28sitting in third position
15:29at the moment
15:30for the Valvoline Cummins
15:31Commodore.
15:31Gee, they come good
15:32on race day
15:32those cars, don't they?
15:33They have some dramas
15:34sometimes in practice
15:36but the boys work very hard
15:37and it's now showing
15:38and Garth of course
15:39look at this
15:39as Craig Lowndes
15:40dives to the inside
15:41he can't do it there.
15:42Keep in mind too
15:43with Glenn Seaton
15:44out of this one
15:45and the gap
15:46between Seaton
15:47and Tander
15:47in the championship
15:48between second
15:49and third
15:49is pretty tight
15:50only 37 points
15:51hopefully he doesn't
15:53hit anything
15:54he's got a
15:54right across the grass
15:56well we hear from the pits
16:03there was contact
16:03with another car
16:04we'll confirm that
16:05a bit later on
16:05Faulkner manages
16:06to keep it going
16:07but what a wild ride
16:08that would have been
16:09in speed
16:09around 240
16:11250 k's
16:12he went off
16:14totally offline there
16:15wasn't it
16:16boy
16:16hairy stuff
16:17but he wonder
16:18where he was going
16:19because when you're
16:19going that quick
16:20on the grass
16:20in all the different
16:21directions he was going
16:22it's worrying
16:23to say the least
16:24I think he's got
16:25some front
16:26front left
16:27front left
16:27is punctured
16:28by the looks
16:29of it
16:29quite badly
16:30he's lucky
16:31he got away
16:31with that
16:32that thing
16:32could have
16:32ricocheted off
16:33in any direction
16:34hit a concrete wall
16:35or anything
16:35so he's lucky
16:36if he can lift
16:37that back
16:37to the pits
16:38with the amount
16:38of damage
16:39that the car's got
16:39let's have a look
16:40at that on the replay
16:40Bates
16:41well it's
16:43some
16:43I wonder why that was
16:44maybe someone
16:45touched him
16:45can't really
16:47I mean I can't really
16:48see
16:49I couldn't see
16:51who was behind him
16:51so I don't know
16:53I understand
16:54John
16:54claims that Larry
16:56Perkins may have
16:57touched him
16:58it's difficult to tell
16:58from that shot
16:59though
16:59yeah you can
17:00really can see
17:00he's managed to
17:02get it into first
17:03gear and drive it
17:04out of that
17:05kitty litter
17:05before he got bogged
17:06so there he is
17:07limping his way
17:08back to the pits
17:08damage to the front
17:10left hand corner
17:11of the car
17:11see that flat tyre
17:14there
17:14so John will try
17:18and limp that
17:18back to the pits
17:19that's a great shame
17:20for the Asia
17:21online team
17:21John forked
17:22that particularly
17:23early in qualifying
17:24early in practice
17:25for this weekend's
17:26race
17:26he was very fast
17:27on old tyres
17:28once they get
17:29the new tyres
17:30on the car
17:30he just doesn't
17:31find that new tyre
17:32gain that he needs
17:33five to go
17:34for Mark
17:34Larkham
17:35we're sort of
17:36crossing all our
17:37fingers here
17:38up here in the

17:39for him
17:39he's so close

20:16I was laughing there, you could hear the old rev limits are working overtime there.
20:45Mark spoke earlier in the telecast about how important it is here to get power down and grip of this circuit at the rear end and as he came out of the SS didn't he get a boot full of it.
20:54I'll tell you what, this battle for the lead is getting closer now, it's down to .6 of a second, Richards is closing all the time on Mark Larkham at the front of the pack, just up ahead of this battle, Mark Larkham, 58.19, he's dropped into the eights that time, around a 57.8 for Stephen Richards and there it is, he's just starting to claw closer to this forward all the time, headlights on for
21:15both cars as they pick their way into the traffic, 2.3 kilometres remaining, final lap for Mark Larkham, can he take his first Shell series race win?
21:22I was going to say, with what's at stake, I don't think, you know, it's one thing if Steve catches him up, it's another thing to get past him, I think he's got the whole thing under control.
21:32We've just been doing our sums up here too, considering those first two heats, when you're determining the top six positions on aggregate, Richards is now on pole position for the start of heat three, so he's having a very strong day at Calder.
21:43Playing the same approach that he took to the GMC 400 in Canberra, where he won that round, strong showing there from the Kmart racing team, so Richards looking good and at the moment Ford fans around the country would be rejoicing.
21:55Mark Larkham!
21:59I bet his heart rate went off the head!
22:01I was waiting for him to head off across the seat with you now, but he's gone!
22:04To deep!
22:05Keep it together, keep it together, you've got one corner to go! Mark Larkham the Queenslander, in the minor ten forward, is on course to get Ford, their fifth victory of the season!
22:14His first ever in the Shell Championship Series, in the case for the space of three weeks, he goes from the lowest of lows, to the highest of highs!
22:18of three weeks he goes from the lowest of lows to the highest of highs on that last lap led down
22:24the back there which is picked by about 15 feet ended up in the shed he would have been if he'd
22:31have lost him he knows what he's done some of the boys the story he knows how close that was
22:35a marvelous performance from larkham thoroughly deserving of that victory his first ever race
22:41win in the shell championship series he's had those bursts of brilliance hasn't he where he's
22:48taken pole last year for the fai 1000 and he's won those support races and years gone by at the
22:53honda indy 300 but thoroughly deserving of it well done mark and well done to all the minor 10 team
22:59oh look at this locker i would have loved to have seen the inside camera on his eyes when he did the
23:05lock up thing here can you imagine his eyes been hanging out on springs can you believe that oh
23:10dear he would have never forgiven himself not at all and as we said in the space of three weeks this
23:16team has gone from the lowest of lows mark larkham included to the highest of highs a brand new car
23:22they have built this from a bare race shell three weeks ago after that shocking crash involving he
23:27and paul morris and there they are he didn't say a word adam perry there team boss team manager i should
23:35say marvelous performance for the minor 10 racing team mark larkham does it he breaks the drought and takes
23:42his first ever victory steven richards a well-deserved and very close second place garth
23:46tander third craig lowndes the defending shell series champion in fourth paul radisic in sixth
23:51steven ellery seventh and tony longhurst completes the top eight we go further back through the field
23:55murphy crompton barguana larry ferkins and russell they're getting all the way up to 13th the sensational
24:00performance from the enforcer the crowd here at calder park raceway enjoying a great day's racing
24:06particularly if they're ford fans the first time since 1998 that ford have won two races within
24:11around and in fact it's the first time since lakeside in 1997 that two different ford teams
24:17have each one races within around a couple of shakers and movers there for you russell ingle from 33rd
24:22up to 13th john bauer from last to 15th and of course todd kelly from 28th to 18th let's go to mark
24:27oslar well looks like a bit of a ford fight back happening at calder park this afternoon victory to
24:33paul radisic in heat one might attend win in heat two that's your first shell series race win what
24:37a feeling yeah it's great mate i mean i'm not a big advocate of swapping the top six around but i
24:41guess i'll cop that one because we uh because you know i think we didn't do a bad job as a team now
24:46i mean can i just take this opportunity my team i mean we're really lucky to be here mark uh they
24:51work tirelessly for three weeks and to come here and win a race i mean it's it's the guys mate i sat at
24:56home in bed watching videos as i said they've done a fantastic job our hearts are in our mouths and you
25:00came up to that last corner there boy how close was that yeah i had a little bit of a rear nip up
25:03there and missed it big time but uh no we got it home that was all right congratulations thank you
25:07very much thank you that's terrific isn't it make sure you get your entry in for that one
25:11nice and early just a reminder too there's a great round coming your way next weekend the grand final
25:16of the conica v8 lights the event happens next weekend at malala raceway in south australia and a
25:21couple of good support events on the card there as well there's the final or grand final i should say
25:26of formula forward in the grand final also of the formula holden side of things well a big crash
25:30a couple of weeks ago between paul morris and mark larkham barry she caught up with both of them a
25:34little earlier yeah thanks greg i'm down here with our two fiery stars now now paul when you saw larry
25:42perkins stopped and you had to stop what happened oh i immediately sort of thought i'm gonna get hit
25:47from the rear um a lot of cars passed me i thought i was all right but uh in the end mark had the same
25:53problem i did and uh he ran into the back of me and what did you see him coming did you actually
25:57see no i could hear the cars going wrong wrong past me and they were getting faster and faster and
26:02faster and uh eventually there was a pretty big hit now mark i saw it you were just just about to
26:09pull out and pass steve ellery weren't you yeah i thought i was going real well there for about 30
26:13seconds and uh yeah all come to a quick hold and what did you do did you have a chance to get on the
26:18brakes yeah we looked at the logger after which was interesting it showed the impact uh on our logger at 146
26:23k's and i just got on the brakes for two tenths of a second so i probably knocked about a kilometer
26:27and a half off so i didn't really do anything did you have any chance to feel scared or what was
26:33you what were you thinking i knew it was a pretty dangerous situation and uh you know when the
26:38impact come on it just went straight through my seat into my back and uh my immediate concern was hey
26:42will i be able to walk again because i couldn't feel my legs or anything so that was then the fire
26:47started then i had another problem altogether trying to get out of this place yeah i didn't
26:52get out no one was there to sort of help me at that time so just sort of try and save myself
26:57now mark you're even a little bit lucky that you didn't even get hit by paul radisson yeah a lot
27:02of people said i was a bit slow to get out of the car but i was sort of conscious of of other cars
27:06going past as well i thought well i'm not going to get out and get cleaned up so but when i saw the
27:09barbecue going on i thought well geez that made the decision of getting out really easy yeah it'd be a bit
27:13embarrassing wouldn't it get out and get away with from an accident then walk into a car as it's
27:17coming past well that was really a potential but i was lucky when kevin from cat racing come over
27:21and grabbed me i knew at that stage well you know obviously uh there's a lot of fire there but no
27:24other cars well chaps hope you have a good race today and we don't want to see any more things like
27:29that thanks we'll be staying well away from each other thanks a lot thanks mate if you could change one
27:35thing in the world what would it be um i think i would be a formula one driver and have a lot of money
27:43that'd be great crime i think get rid of all sorts of crime and graffiti graffiti is just like
27:50over the top it's just so costly to a lot of people and that's wrong wrong it's wrong reality
27:58reality sucks uh it would have to be um tiger woods's skill with a golf club um wouldn't mind
28:06knowing that it would be very uh very handy money wise
