00:00Tonight, the cast of High School Musical, The Musical, The Series, will be taking a stroll down memory lane, as we share childhood memories, I got involved in theater very young, a couple of bloopers, was that okay?
00:15A few surprises, we are very excited to share a special world premiere, and a whole lot of music.
00:21Welcome to High School Musical, The Musical, The Holiday Special.
00:29So this is Arizona, I know it's not exactly the North Pole, but this is where I've grown up, this is where I spend almost every Christmas of my life.
00:56Whenever I think of Christmas, I think of my family waking up on Christmas morning, seeing the presents under the tree, seeing that the cookies and the milk that we left out the night before is all gone.
01:09And of course, every Christmas needs an elf, so I luckily have my little dog, Violet. She is the sweetest thing. She always opens up presents on Christmas Day, and it's the funniest thing, and she gets so excited.
01:24Over the years, I have been so blessed to be able to meet and connect with so many people, so I really wanted to dedicate this song to all the fans out there who have grown up with me, and of course, to my amazing High School Musical family.
01:39I miss them so much. We might not be together for the holidays, but music always finds a way to bring us back home.
01:45I miss you all.

03:50So I grew up right outside San Diego with five sisters and two wonderful parents and all the music you could imagine.
03:58My dad was a professional pianist and drummer.
04:01I think each of us have a little bit of that in our blood.
04:04And now music is obviously such a huge part of my life as I write music almost every single day.
04:10And I was fortunate enough in season one to be given the opportunity to write a song with my co-star, the lovely Olivia Rodrigo.
04:16And then when season two came around, I was afforded the insane opportunity to write my own Christmas song for my character Ricky.
04:35That he sings to Nene because he can't really afford a gift.
04:39And so he does the second best thing he can and that is write her a song.
04:44Writing that Christmas song was a dream.
04:46And I can't believe that I get to say this, but I am going to be able to perform it for you tonight.
04:51For the first time ever.
04:53So enjoy my song slash Ricky's song, The Perfect Gift.
04:57I still remember the first time we ever kissed
05:11We didn't need no mistletoe to know what loving is
05:17Through every up and down there's one thing that stays true
05:22Christmas is better every second it's with you
05:28I don't got much to give
05:30So I hope you think this is
05:33The perfect gift that I could give
05:39To the perfect gift that ever lived
05:44Yeah, this song's the second best that I could do
05:48When the perfect gift is you
05:51When the perfect gift is you
05:57When seasons change and I've lost my way
06:06It'll be okay with you by my side
06:11And darling that's why
06:14This song's the second best that I could do
06:19When the perfect gift is you
06:22When the perfect gift is you
06:27When the perfect gift is you
06:33When the perfect gift is you
06:39I was born and raised in Selma, California
06:49and we are the raisin capital of the world
06:55if that gives you any idea of the town
06:59Okay, I grew up outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
07:05and I come from a very musical family
07:08Every Christmas we would go to my Nana and Pap's house
07:12and we would all stand on chairs and just sing for all these relatives
07:16and they would either sing along or just watch adoringly
07:20as we made fools of ourselves as children
07:23because we had no fear whatsoever
07:25Feliz Navidad
07:27Feliz Navidad
07:30I have seen the footage of Joe Serafini singing Feliz Navidad
07:35I want to wish you a Merry Christmas from the bottom of my heart
07:42Joe's so little
07:43and he says, from the bottom of my heart
07:46it's so cute
07:47My favorite things about being a part of the cast of High School Musical
07:53is that you have this whole second family
07:57and it's great
07:58because you have this whole group of people
08:00that are loving and supporting
08:02and just there to encourage you
08:04I grew up singing with my family
08:06and, you know, as everyone gets older
08:08we all go our separate ways
08:10and now I have a new duet partner
08:12Feliz Navidad
08:26Feliz Navidad
08:29Feliz Navidad
08:31Prospero Año y Felicidad
08:34Feliz Navidad
08:36Feliz Navidad
08:37Feliz Navidad
08:38Feliz Navidad
08:39Feliz Navidad
08:40Prospero Año y Felicidad
08:43I want to wish you a Merry Christmas
08:46I want to wish you a Merry Christmas
08:48I want to wish you a Merry Christmas
08:50from the bottom of my heart
08:53I want to wish you a Merry Christmas
08:55I wanna wish you a Merry Christmas
09:00From the bottom of my heart
09:03Feliz Navidad
09:08Prospero año y felicidad
09:12Feliz Navidad
09:18Prospero año y felicidad
09:21And now
09:47How well do you know your cast?
09:49Who in your past would give the best homemade gift?
09:53I feel like the person that would give the best homemade gift would be Julia Lester.
09:59Has to be Julia. She's very into tie-dye.
10:03I feel like Olivia, she's definitely the most thoughtful when it comes to gifts.
10:08I think Olivia, she will go beyond. I feel like I'd be Dara.
10:12Dara or Frankie, because they truly think about you.
10:15I remember Frankie got me a present, and Frankie spent some money,
10:18so I would only pick Frankie because I know he's not going to be cheap, so.
10:22Who would be number one on Santa's mindless?
10:25I don't want to snitch on nobody.
10:28I think Joshua Bassett. Probably Josh.
10:32Joshua Bassett. Joshua Bassett.
10:34Yeah, it's got to be Josh.
10:35I bet everyone said me, didn't they?
10:37I feel like he's up to no good sometimes.
10:39He's a little terror.
10:40No way! Of course they said that, yeah.
10:43Who in your cast played Tiny Tim as a kid?
10:46Joe Serafini played Tiny Tim, like, four years in a row.
10:51I played Tiny Tim as a child.
10:53Joe Serafini actually did play Tiny Tim as a kid.
10:56That had to have been Larry.
10:58Was it Kate Reinders as Tiny Tim?
11:01What's Tiny Tim?
11:04What is that?
11:05I grew up in Woodland Hills, California in a super theatrical family.
11:20My dad, Lauren, and my mom, Kelly, met doing theater,
11:24and my sisters, Jenny, Lily, and I grew up doing theater.
11:27We caught that acting bug super early,
11:29so definitely a lot of musical theater energy radiating through our household.
11:33Both sides of my family are Jewish,
11:37so we grew up celebrating Hanukkah predominantly.
11:39Happy Hanukkah.
11:40Happy Hanukkah.
11:41It's Hanukkah's tomorrow.
11:42Well, are you going to open the presents?
11:44You sure are.
11:45Are you going to light the candles?
11:46I'll open the presents.
11:48That's right.
11:49Oh.
11:50I remember making gingerbread houses with my sisters every year,
11:53but not out of gingerbread, out of graham crackers and frosting,
11:56because, again, Jews.
11:58I give you the Tower of Julia.
12:04Wow.
12:06So I got to thinking about what I could sing,
12:08and I could definitely sing you, like,
12:10a hundred different Christmas songs off the top of my head,
12:12but, like, where's the Mariah Carey version of a Hanukkah song?
12:16So I thought tonight I would add a little bit of music video flair to Hanukkah,
12:22and because I am 100% a theater dork and it's literally in my DNA,
12:29I'm going to be doing it as a medley.
12:32L'chaim.
12:32Oh, Hanukkah, oh, Hanukkah, come light the menorah.
12:51Let's have a party, we'll all dance the horah.
12:55Gather round the table, we'll give you a treat.
13:00Dreidels to play with, and latkes to eat.
13:05And while we are playing, the candles are burning low.
13:14One for each night, yeah, they shed a sweet light to remind us of days long ago.
13:21The greatest days of the world, long, long ago.
13:25Dreidle, dreidle, dreidle.
13:27I made it out of clay.
13:30When it's dry and ready, then dreidle I shall play.
13:35Dreidle, dreidle, dreidle.
13:37I made it out of clay.
13:39And when it's dry and ready, then dreidle I shall play.
13:44Let's have a Hanukkah, Hanukkah, festival of love.
13:48Let's have a Hanukkah, Hanukkah, festival of love.
13:54Hanukkah, Hanukkah, make your dreidle spin.
13:58Round and round, round and round, everyone join in.
14:03Hanukkah, Hanukkah, what a merry time.
14:07Cakes to eat, oh, what a treat.
14:10See the faces shine.
14:12Hanukkah, yeah, Hanukkah.
14:15Singing dance this way.
14:17Round and round, round and round, everyone join in.
14:19Happy Holidays.
14:21Happy Holidays.
14:26Dreidle, dreidle, dreidle.
14:28I grew up in a very small town in Arkansas, a town called Rogers.
14:42It's the kind of place where everybody knows everybody because it's so small.
14:46I'm a very family-oriented person.
14:49And I grew up in a household that wasn't necessarily super wealthy.
14:53But, you know, we had the time with each other, which was most important for us.
14:57But when I said I wanted to come out here to Los Angeles and give acting a go,
15:02you know, my brother, he decided to kind of take everything that was in his savings
15:05and what he had worked his life for and, you know, give me a shot.
15:09He gave my parents the money and my mom and I moved out to Los Angeles.
15:12And I started my whole acting career.
15:16There's actually a photo of me on Christmas morning wearing, to a tee,
15:21the exact same striped blue t-shirt that the character EJ wears
15:25in season one of High School Musical, the musical, the series.
15:27I guess there's a fun fact I didn't know about myself
15:29and the fact that I never outgrow clothes.
15:31So that's fun.
15:34There's a lot of things I love in my life, my family, my faith.
15:39And up there at the top of my list is my Camaro, my baby, my car,
15:43my red beauty that I call Arrow.
15:45So today I get to sing my song in Hollywood with my beautiful car,
15:51making its TV debut with a song from the 1980s.
15:54It's going to be so much fun.
15:56It's literally a true dream and Christmas miracle at that.
16:00Last Christmas, I gave you my heart, but the very next day you gave it away.
16:13This year, to save me from tears, I'll give it to someone special.
16:20Once bitten and twice shy.
16:25I keep my distance, but you still catch my eye.
16:31Tell me, baby, do you recognize me?
16:35Well, it's been a year.
16:36It doesn't surprise me.
16:38Last Christmas, I gave you my heart, but the very next day you gave it away.
16:47This year, to save me from tears, I'll give it to someone special.
16:56A crowded room, friends with tired eyes.
17:00I'm hiding from you and your soul of eyes.
17:05My God, I thought you were someone to rely on.
17:08Me, I guess I was a shoulder to cry on.
17:13A face on a lover with a fire in his heart.
17:17A man undercover, but you tore me apart.
17:24Ooh, now I found a real love.
17:27You'll never fool me again.
17:30Last Christmas, I gave you my heart, but the very next day you gave it away.
17:38This year, to save me from tears, I'll give it to someone special.
17:46I grew up in New York City, and I was a true theater kid.
17:58I actually have a picture of me in a menorah costume at, like, age five.
18:06I loved putting on performances for people.
18:09I'll say that sometimes I would feel embarrassed about the fact that I celebrated Hanukkah and not Christmas.
18:14I remember when I was younger, asking for a Christmas present from Santa, because I was always nervous that I wasn't going to get a present from Santa, even though I was such a good kid.
18:25And now that I'm an adult, I've taken real ownership over the fact that I am Jewish and that I do celebrate a holiday that might not be what everybody celebrates.
18:35And it makes me unique, and I'm so proud of that.
18:37This song that I'm singing is all about dreaming about something that isn't there.
18:42It's kind of like what it's like to be an actor, being able to create something from nothing.
18:48Also, fun fact, written by Irving Berlin, a nice Jewish boy like me, so I hope I can do it justice.
18:54I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
19:10Just like the ones I used to know
19:14Where the treetops glisten
19:19And children listen
19:22To hear
19:24Sleigh bells in the snow
19:27I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
19:35With every Christmas card I write
19:41May your days be merry and bright
19:47And may all your Christmases be white
19:53And may all your Christmases be white
19:53And may all your Christmases be white
19:55And may all your Christmases be white
19:57And may all your Christmases be white
20:00And may all your Christmases be white
20:02And may all your Christmases be white
20:03And may all your Christmases be white
20:04And may all your Christmases be white
20:05And may all your Christmases be white
20:06And may all your Christmases be white
20:07And may all your Christmases be white
20:08And may all your Christmases be white
20:09And may all your Christmases be white
20:10And may all your Christmases be white
20:11And may all your Christmases be white
20:12And may all your Christmases be white
20:13And may all your Christmases be white
20:14And may all your Christmases be white
20:15And may all your Christmases be white
20:16And may all your Christmases be white
20:17And may all your Christmases be white

23:17What is up, Merry Christmas?
23:30I was born in L.A., but I grew up in Baltimore because my mom wanted to open a performing arts school for kids
23:40One of the reasons she did it is because I was so shy when I was younger
23:44And that school literally broke me out of my shell and I'm just so grateful that my mom created it and she's just been such an inspiration to me
23:54This song is about Christmas and, you know, seeing through the eyes of a child and that wonder of waking up on Christmas morning and being able to be with your family
24:03And also knowing that, you know, one day we all are going to grow up and we're all going to, you know, be able to be someone completely different but also unique and also special with the knowledge of what you gained through all of those years
24:18So if I were to tell my younger self, um, something, you know, some people are going to doubt you, but to always believe in yourself, have faith in yourself
24:29And, you know, make each day, every single day of the year as if it were Christmas morning
24:34Always have that excitement and that joy and that purpose to keep going
24:38Period
24:39Children sleeping
24:54Snow is softly falling
25:00Dreams are calling
25:05Like bells in the distance
25:11We were dreamers
25:18Not so long ago
25:22But one by one
25:28We
25:30All had to grow
25:35When it seems the magic slipped away
25:41We find it all again on Christmas day
25:47Believe in what your heart is saying
25:51Hear the melody that's playing
25:54There's no time to waste
25:56There's so much to celebrate
25:58Believe in what you feel inside
26:02And gave your dreams the wings to fly
26:08You have everything you need
26:12If you just believe
26:19If you just believe
26:21If you just believe
26:25Oh, yeah
26:27Yeah
26:29Believe, believe
26:34Believe, believe
26:36If you just believe
26:40Okay
26:46I am from a little town in Michigan
26:52And I got involved in theater
26:54And I got involved in theater very young
26:56I always like to sing and dance
26:58And talk a lot
27:00And so I was really lucky
27:02To play a lot of the girl roles
27:04That every little girl dreams of playing
27:06Like Annie
27:07And Dorothy
27:09And the Wizard of Oz
27:10And I also played a bunch of roles
27:11That every little girl doesn't really dream of playing
27:14Like Sebastian the crab
27:16Wilbur the pig
27:17And Tiny Tim
27:19Three years in a row
27:21That's right
27:22Hi
27:24A lot of people don't know
27:25I'm from Louisiana
27:26I'm from the happy, happy land of Louisiana
27:28I started young with performing
27:31With my stage debut
27:32As an angel of God
27:35And I remember taking it so seriously
27:37The woman who was designing the costumes
27:39Handed me this lip gloss
27:41As an artistic flair
27:42And I really thought like
27:44That was the touch
27:46That made me an angel
27:47Tonight is the best night ever
27:53Because I will be singing a duet
27:55With Mr. Mark St. Cyr
27:56Now you may know him as
27:59Mr. Mazzara from our show
28:01And he isn't very nice to Miss Jen
28:03But I have to tell you
28:05The truth is that
28:06Mark St. Cyr is the sweetest
28:08I have the great honor
28:12Of being his first ever singing partner
28:14For his first ever on-camera singing performance
28:17And I just have to say
28:19Get ready, world
28:20They told me this was a solo
28:22Just kidding
28:25When the bells all ring
28:30And the horns all blow
28:32And the couples that we know
28:35Are fondly kissing
28:37Will I be with you
28:39Or will I be among the missing
28:44Maybe it's much too early in the game
28:54Ah, but I thought I'd ask you just the same
28:59What are you doing New Year's
29:03New Year's Eve
29:08Wonder whose arms will hold you good and tight
29:15When it's exactly twelve o'clock that night
29:20Welcoming in the new year
29:24New Year's Eve
29:29Maybe I'm crazy
29:33To suppose
29:35I'd ever be
29:38The one you chose
29:40Out of the thousand
29:42Invitations you'll receive
29:48Ah, but in case I stand one little chance
29:56Here comes the jackpot question in advance
30:01What are you doing New Year's
30:06New Year's Eve
30:08What are you doing on New Year's
30:22New Year's Eve
30:26What is your New Year's resolution this year?
30:38One of the amazing things about this year
30:40Is I got to spend so much more time with my family
30:43And I realized that that was so important to me
30:45And I want to be able to do that again next year in 2021
30:48To really make the most of the time that you have
30:50Especially with the people you have it with
30:52To soak in every exciting moment that I have
30:55I feel like sometimes we let time get away from us
30:58But focus more on my friends and family
31:00And enjoying each second more
31:02Try to live more in the now
31:04And appreciate what you have
31:05Whether it be experiences or memories
31:07And just kind of take those moments in
31:09And cherish them
31:10Because once they're gone, they're gone
31:12I think I have very similar New Year's resolutions every year
31:16It's become the best person that I can be
31:19That's really all I can ever ask for
31:21My New Year's resolution every year is funny
31:24Because why do I even make it?
31:27Never happens
31:27My New Year's resolution is to meet Beyonce
31:30I know that's a little off
31:32But Miss B, even if it's through Zoom
31:34I'm totally cool with that
31:35There are so many home videos of me
31:46Singing like ridiculous songs that I made up
31:48Friendship there, friendship there
31:50Everywhere you look
31:53I'm an only child
31:54And so my parents just absolutely loved that
31:56And they loved filming me
31:58Mom, this is a Hannah Montana song
32:00I gotcha, babe
32:02There's just like so much footage of me singing these gibberish songs
32:07Yeah
32:07I'm so inspired by female singer-songwriters
32:12I draw so much inspiration from them
32:14Like Taylor Swift and Fiona Apple and Lorde and people like that
32:19I think the best artists are great listeners
32:21And so I definitely try to learn a lot from them
32:24Tonight I'm going to sing a song called River by Joni Mitchell
32:27Joni Mitchell is one of the most iconic songwriters of all time
32:31And she did a really good job of writing a sad Christmas song
32:34Which I think is so special
32:36Christmas and the holidays are kind of nostalgic for a lot of people
32:39And sometimes that nostalgia doesn't always have to be joyful and peaceful
32:43And she does a really great job of capturing that
32:45So I'm really excited to sing it
32:47It's coming on Christmas
33:01They're cutting down trees
33:03They're putting up reindeer
33:05And singing songs of joy and peace
33:08Oh I wish I had a river
33:10I could skate away on
33:15But it don't snow here
33:19It stays pretty green
33:21I'm gonna make a lot of money
33:24Then I'm gonna quit this crazy scene
33:27Oh I wish I had a river
33:29I could skate away on
33:34I wish I had a river so long
33:40I would teach my feet to fly
33:45Oh I wish I had a river
33:52I could skate away on
33:56I made my baby
34:01I made my baby cry
34:03He tried hard to help me
34:16He tried hard to help me
34:18You know he put me at ease
34:21And he loved me so naughty
34:23Made me weak in the knees
34:25Oh I wish I had a river
34:27Oh I wish I had a river
34:28I could skate away on
34:29I could skate away on
34:33I'm so hard to handle
34:37I'm selfish and I'm sad
34:39Now I've gone and lost the best baby
34:42That I ever had
34:45Oh I wish I had a river
34:46I could skate away on
34:51I wish I had a river so long
34:58I would teach my feet to fly
35:02Oh I wish I had a river
35:15I could skate away on
35:19I made my baby say goodbye
35:26It's coming on Christmas
35:40They're cutting down trees
35:43They're putting up reindeer
35:45And singing songs of joy and peace
35:48Oh I wish I had a river
35:50I could skate away on
35:59And now we are very excited

37:07Hanging around the fire
37:08When it starts to snow
37:10Bumping into someone
37:12Under mistletoe
37:14I can't wait to see
37:16What the future holds
37:19All around I'm feeling it

37:52I hope we're snorting every day
37:54There's no time to relax

38:00I'm gonna make this season play
38:03We're ending the beginning of another year
38:06Taking in the memories that we made right here
38:10The tree is going up
38:12And my roots are going down
38:14All around I'm feeling it
38:17Are you feeling it?
38:35Holding your hand when it gets cold
38:37Promise me you'll never let go
38:39It's winter break
38:40But we'll never break apart
38:42A season of celebrating
38:44The memories we'll be making
38:47Making a change
38:48Make a new start
38:49I'm gonna make my mark
38:50There's something in the air
38:54About to go off right now
38:56Lighting up all around
38:58I feel it coming
39:00There's something in the air
39:02A time to look forward to
39:04Get ready for something new
39:06I feel it coming
39:08Something in the air
39:09We are excited to announce
39:11That behind these doors
39:12The theater is being restored
39:13To its full
39:14Resplendent 1960s era glory
39:16Over the holiday break
39:17Something in the air
39:21I feel it coming
39:24Something in the air
39:25What does Christmas mean to you now?
39:30I think Christmas now for me
39:34Really means being able to sit back
39:37From working and traveling
39:39And just remember what it's like
39:41To be a regular 16 year old girl
39:44Christmas to me now
39:45Is just a great time
39:46To reconnect with the family
39:48That you're away from
39:49Most of the year
39:50I think of family
39:52Tons of fun in the snow
39:54And food
39:55Lots and lots of food
39:56It was an opportunity for me
39:57To spend quality time with the family
39:58Bring us all together
39:59And you might not know this
40:00But quality time
40:02Is one of my love languages
40:04Christmas always made me
40:07Think of my home
40:08That I grew up in
40:09But now
40:10Having Luke
40:11It's really about
40:12Me making his memories with him
40:15And I want to balance it
40:16With letting him know
40:18That Christmas is really
40:19About being loved
40:20And it's not about
40:22All the presents that I give him
40:23But it's really
40:25That he is the biggest gift
40:27I have ever received
40:28I've been afforded the opportunity
40:30To be able to give back
40:31Especially to my parents
40:32It was kind of difficult
40:33For them to
40:34Get everyone in my family
40:36You know
40:37A really great gift
40:38They did the best that they could
40:39And so
40:40The thing I'm most excited about
40:42Is to be able to give back to them
40:44And the rest of my family
40:45And you know what
40:46That's Christmas to me
40:47The fireplace is burning bright
40:51Shining all on me
40:54I see the presents underneath
40:57The good old Christmas tree
40:59And I'll wait all night
41:01Till Santa comes
41:03To wake me from my dreams
41:05Oh why
41:07Cause that's Christmas to me
41:10I see the children play outside
41:15Like angels in the snow
41:17While mom and daddy share a kiss
41:20Under the mistletoe
41:23And we'll cherish all these simple things
41:26Wherever we may be
41:29Oh why
41:30Cause that's Christmas to me
41:33I've got this Christmas song in my heart
41:39I've got the candles glowing in the dark
41:45I'm hanging all the stockings by the Christmas tree
41:51Oh why
41:54Cause that's Christmas to me
41:57Oh why
42:00Cause that's Christmas to me
42:03I listen for the thud of reindeer
42:08Walking on the roof
42:10As I fall asleep to lullabies
42:13The morning's coming soon
42:16And the only gift I'll ever need
42:19Is the joy of family
42:21Oh why
42:23Cause that's Christmas to me
42:26I've got this Christmas song in my heart
42:31I've got the candles glowing in the dark
42:38I'm hanging all the stockings by the Christmas tree
42:44That's the love that Christmas can bring
42:50Oh why
42:52Cause that's Christmas to me
42:55The snow's coming down
43:07I'm watching it fall
43:10Lots of people around
43:14Baby please come home
43:18The church bells and sounds
43:21All ringing in songs
43:25Full of happy sounds
43:28Baby please come home
43:32They're singing deck the halls
43:36But it's not like Christmas at all
43:39Cause I remember when you were here
43:42Cause I remember when you were here
43:43And all the fun we had last year
43:46Pretty lights on the trees
43:50I'm watching them shine
43:54You should be here with me
43:57Baby please come home
44:01Better please come home
44:23Better please come home
