No one knows the Eagles’ thinking and motivations like “unCovering the Birds” host Jeff McLane, and no one knows the draft like analyst and former Raiders general manager Mike Mayock. Listen to the two experts chop it up about first-round pick Jihaad Campbell, from the position he should play to injury concerns, as well as other key subplots that emerged from draft weekend.

00:00Obviously, the centerpiece is going to be Jihad Campbell.
00:05Just right off the bat, what do you think of the move?
00:08I had him going nine overall to New Orleans.
00:13So by definition, from a talent perspective, that's what I think of the move.
00:19I think he is the future of what we're going to see of off-the-ball linebackers in the NFL.
00:25And by that, I mean his athletic ability, speed, which this is a guy that is so versatile
00:35that he can play off-the-ball linebacker, he can drop in coverage, he can play tight ends,
00:43man-to-man, but he was also a defensive end in high school.
00:47And when they rushed the passer with this kid, and it didn't matter whether it was Agap,
00:51you know, in the middle, between the center and the guard, all the way out to what they
00:55call the nine technique, coming off wide off the edge, he's got the physical traits to be
01:01a high-level pass rusher.
01:03So even though he hasn't developed all that yet, when Alabama asked him to do that, he
01:08was effective just because of the physical traits.
01:11So the concern, obviously, is just the history of injuries, you know, and it's, you know,
01:18specifically the shoulder and then the late knee concerns.
01:22And I'm always kind of, it's really amazing, you know, as a former GM and being in the media
01:29for so long, every team in the league gets the same MRIs, x-rays, et cetera, but different
01:35teams interpret them different ways with their doctors.
01:37So you can have your team doctor tell them, you can't touch this guy.
01:43Another team might say, hey, you get at least one contract out of those knees, you'll be
01:47fine.
01:48So when you look at, say, a pair of knees, and you see one doctor might say it's chronic
01:56and stay away, another doctor might say, hey, he's probably going to be fine.
02:00And I've seen the range of players that were out of the league in one year to players that
02:04have played 10 years with the exact same condition.
02:07So really, Howie obviously felt very comfortable with the medical report.
02:14And for me, he's such a valuable and versatile piece for Vic Fangio.
02:20Between him and Zach Vaughn, I can't wait to see those guys together.
