Starring alongside Cole Sprouse and Kathryn Newton, #LizaSoberano sat down for an exclusive chat with Cosmopolitan Philippines to discuss her experience filming the #LisaFrankenstein movie, how she and Kathryn Newton became friends (they both love BLACKPINK!), how she nailed her comedic timing, and which Hollywood actors and actresses she'd like to collaborate with next.

00:00 My favorite scene with Catherine would have to be the scene that we did we took in the car
00:06 It's actually in the opening of the trailer
00:08 Kathy goes against the usual stepsister stereotype and that she's actually quite sweet and supportive of her sister
00:17 How did you and Catherine Newton build that camaraderie and what was your favorite moment to film together?
00:22 so
00:24 For Catherine and I we didn't have that many days before we actually started filming to actually build up our
00:31 Relationship or anything so we kind of just had to throw ourselves into the whole project, but it was actually very easy
00:38 I feel like her and I get along very well like our personalities are such a good match
00:43 I think we just have really natural chemistry with each other
00:47 It also helps that we're the same age and that we are interested in a lot of the same things
00:51 I would say one thing that we mainly bonded over in the beginning was our love for black pink
00:56 I didn't know that at the time that she was obsessed with black pink
01:00 But she she told me that she like knows all their songs even knows their dance steps
01:04 So I have a bunch of videos that we took of us like dancing to black pink and just listening to kpop
01:10 my favorite scene with
01:12 Catherine would have to be the scene that we did we took in the car
01:17 It's actually in the opening of the trailer that scene we filmed late at night
01:21 Because like how it works in America is we only have 12 hours a day to film
01:26 And so if they have night sequences that they need to film we get called very late at night
01:31 So my call time at the time was 10 p.m. And we we filmed that until like 6 a.m.
01:37 In the morning so me and her were really struggling to stay up all night because I haven't been you know
01:42 I haven't been taping in a while and
01:45 Throughout the whole week we were filming early in the morning and we would finish early in the day
01:49 And so we were just hyping each other up the whole time trying to keep ourselves awake
01:53 We were in the car while waiting for setup like just rapping because she also loves like super rap music
02:00 Which I also enjoy so we were hyping each other up singing rap songs just filming tik-toks and everything
02:08 So I think that's the most memorable and most fun I had with her on the set
02:12 So Taffy has actually a lot of memorable one-liners in the show
02:15 How did you practice your comedic timing and delivery and were any of those ad-lib?
02:19 I was actually very nervous about that because
02:22 Zelda did tell me that my character has to be like not trying to be funny, but she just is naturally funny and
02:29 For me, I think comedy is one of the hardest genres because it's easy to make people cry
02:35 I feel like it's easy to scare people, but it's really hard to make someone laugh and
02:41 I'm not very confident in my comedic timing or anything
02:44 So I really relied on the help of our director Zelda to kind of guide me through
02:49 The amount of like comedy that I put in a lot of my one-liners
02:53 She would kind of guide me on
02:55 When to drop the line and kind of how to drop the line and then she would also give me a few takes where I could
03:01 Completely experiment with how I wanted to deliver it
03:04 So it was a nice combination of me and her just like trying to find the right pockets
03:10 Taffy might seem like she has the perfect life as the popular cheerleader
03:14 But she actually does have a vulnerable side that you get to show as well
03:17 So also spoiler alert when she's revealed to have a love life. She does suffer for it
03:21 Yeah as an actor
03:23 How do you feel or what type of scene was the most difficult for you to fill the comedy?
03:27 The vulnerability or drama the romance or the horror aspect of it when I try to remember everything that we did during filming
03:34 The scene that I had the hardest time with was the first scene I ever took in the whole movie
03:40 Which actually that scene is in the trailer. It's like she could even be in beauty pageants
03:45 She could probably even do pageants if she had congeniality
03:49 So that was my first scene and I was just very nervous because it was my first day working with everybody
03:56 I honestly wasn't very comfortable with my English at the time too because
04:00 People had noticed that I had a bit of a Filipino accent and I was trying my best to
04:06 Have more of an 80s English accent. So I was very self-conscious about it the whole time
04:11 There are actually quite a lot of comedic moments in the film
04:14 Which one in particular caused you to break character most and why?
04:18 I think the only time I ever broke character on that whole set was in the scene that
04:24 Catherine Cole and
04:26 Henry are with me in that scene. It's actually the
04:32 Climax of the whole movie and it was just so funny because Catherine was actually so funny
04:37 She kept on breaking character first and forcing like not forcing but because she would break out of character
04:43 We would all just break out into laughter because of her
04:45 Even though it was the climax of the film the director and everybody on the set just made it feel
04:52 Like it was just any other fun scene that we were all filming together
04:55 And I think it helped that like all four of us like we're all in the same age range. We were all together
05:01 So we were just having fun
05:03 What particular scene for you was the most memorable to film whether it was because of a certain character or because of an emotional aspect?
05:10 Involved in the scene again going back to that scene where me Henry Cole and Catherine were all together
05:16 I think that was the most fun
05:18 And the most difficult because there was a lot of different elements of the scene that had to have perfect timing the comedy the drama
05:27 The action like it was all four genres in one in that particular scene
05:33 but also there was like elements of
05:36 Cole's character having to like chop something
05:40 And then I had to like scream at the top of my lungs
05:43 So it was like chaos happening on the set
05:47 But it was so much fun and it was so memorable because all of us had really
05:51 Had so much fun and we weren't really pressured even though it was a big scene
05:55 Now that you've made your Hollywood debut, what is next for you in terms of your career plans?
06:00 Is there a movie or a TV series that you'd particularly like to do or an actor you'd like to collaborate with right now?
06:06 Because I just finished watching Narcos. I would say an actor that I really want to work with is Pedro Pascal
06:12 I think he's so charming and such a great actor
06:15 I also really like James McAvoy who is professor X and X-Men. I also think he's just one of the best actors in the world
06:23 He's amazing at what he does. From the actresses. I love Zendaya
06:26 I love Angelina Jolie and if there was any project that I would like to be in
06:32 Honestly, like I dream of being in Euphoria sometimes because I really like I just I really admire Zendaya as a person and I know
06:40 That she co-produced that series as well
06:43 So I would love to learn from her and I would love to be in
06:47 Something like The Last of Us because I really love zombie films and I love action thrillers
06:53 Hey Cosmo girls
