SkyMall sales catalogs have been tucked in the back of airline seats for 24 years, but times are changing and more people are using their electronic devices during flights instead of leafing through the limited reading material offered by the airlines.

Last year, the Federal Aviation Administration announced that passengers can use their electronic devices even during take off and landing.

According to a 2013 joint study from Consumer Electronics Association and Airline Passenger Experience Association, around 69 percent of passengers who are traveling with an electronic device used it during the flight.

In an effort to update their marketing and business model, SkyMall is trying to increase online sales with a plan to spend two and a half million dollars on their website and a feature that will let customers order products by scanning pictures in the catalog with their smartphones.

Officials from SkyMall said that around 40 percent of their annual sales happen during the last three months of the year because of the holiday shopping season.

The catalog is seen by 87 percent of domestic flight passengers in the United States which amounts to over 650 million people a year.
