00:00 I got a message about Bloom two years ago from a friend of mine.
00:05 She had a client who had found a baby bird and she didn't know what to do about her.
00:10 Asked me if I could take her in. It was just an instant click.
00:14 She would pre-roam around the house.
00:27 It was her world and I was just living in it.
00:30 It was just a fairy tale. In the morning she would have breakfast in my bed.
00:37 She would play hide and seek with me.
00:39 She was just so affectionate and so eager to be nurtured and to connect and to just feel safe.
00:54 There were also some hard times of course because I have these huge holes in my walls
00:59 because she was playing around but that can be fixed, you know.
01:02 She loves her space but she also has moments when she's like "oh, I need to feel you here near me"
01:07 and when that happens she just jumps on me, closes her eyes and puts her head down
01:11 and I know that means it's cuddle time and kisses time.
01:14 But at the same time she loves to drop glasses on the floor, to steal my food
01:20 and put it in the dog's bowl, to steal socks and bite the dog on his tail.
01:25 Bloom.
01:26 Wait. She just starts hopping around and comes at my desk and she's like "ok, cool, so you need to stop everything
01:34 and I need to play, like now."
01:36 She wets her tail. That's how I know that she's happy.
01:38 I know all her different sounds but she doesn't have to make any sound for me to understand
01:45 what she needs and what she wants.
01:47 [Sounds of a dog eating]
01:52 Ok, ok.
01:53 It's very raw, very raw and pure.
01:56 She just has this softness about her, the way she makes sure that she doesn't hurt me
02:02 although she could do some serious damage with that beak.
02:04 She's just very warm towards me.
02:07 I knew about how intelligent they were but her softness is definitely what stood me by surprise.
02:12 The first four months of our interaction were just smooth sailing and after that I took her to a friend of mine
02:19 in the mountainside.
02:20 He has aviaries, he rescues birds, especially wild birds.
02:25 The plan was for her to make some new bird friends and hopefully get released and have a wild crow life.
02:31 She refused to be released and after she became a little bit aggressive with the other crows
02:37 I went to visit her and she immediately recognized me, immediately came to me.
02:41 I didn't expect her to remember who I was or to have any desire to be close to me
02:46 and when she did all those things my mind was blown.
02:49 Of course I think that a wild bird's place is outside in the wild but they live in communities
02:55 so when they grow up it's very important for them to be exposed to other crows
03:00 and to learn the different sounds they make.
03:02 She wasn't exposed to any of that.
03:04 [Speaking in Polish]
03:06 I want to give her the best possible outcome.
03:08 So I took her back and it was like she had never left.
03:12 [Music]
03:24 (chime)
