5-Year-Old Boy Fatally Shoots Baby Brother
A baby in Elmo, Missouri tragically died after being shot by his 5-year-old brother.
A baby in Elmo, Missouri tragically died after being shot by his 5-year-old brother. Police were dispatched to a home on Monday after the boys' mother called 911 to report that her older son had shot her 9-month-old baby with a paintball gun.
When first responders arrived on scene, they noticed the infant had been shot in the head, however it was determined a paintball gun wasn't involved in the incident.
The baby was actually shot with a '.22 caliber magnum revolver'. The younger boy was airlifted to Children's Mercy Hospital and pronounced dead a short time later.
According to Darren White, the Nodaway County Sheriff, the firearm was loaded and stored on a shelf in the master bed's headboard. At the time of the shooting, the baby had been inside a crib in the same room where the gun was kept.
Police have launched an investigation into the case but at this point it appears to be an accident
