Interviews from Havana – Making History Come Alive

Dr. Antonio Alvarez Pitaluga, Research Director in the History and Philosophy Department of the University of Havana, is known for his controversial history books. Pitaluga once faced heavy criticism for describing particular mistakes made by heroes of Cuban Independence and insisting that revolutions can be destroyed by the revolutionaries themselves. He suggests that in teaching history, it is important to replace reproduction with construction and dogmatic Marxism with critical Marxism. We must teach people to think, he says, to make history attractive, to make it come alive. teleSUR
