Scientists believe they’ve found compelling evidence of a white dwarf star feeding on a planet, a behavior that’s been theorized but never before observed.
Just in time for Halloween, scientists studying data recorded as part of NASA’s K2 mission have gathered compelling evidence that there is a zombie in space.
A NASA news release notes that researchers "have uncovered strong evidence of a tiny, rocky object being torn apart as it spirals around a white dwarf star."
Andrew Vanderburg, the study’s lead author, said, “We are for the first time witnessing a miniature 'planet' ripped apart by intense gravity, being vaporized by starlight and raining rocky material onto its star.”
