WEST JORDAN, UTAH — Newly released body cam video from West Jordan, Utah police shows several officers entering a machete-wielding suicidal man's home at around 6 p.m. on New Year's Eve and saving the man's life.
When police arrived at Brandon Morgan's home after receiving a call about a suicidal man attacking his family, they found a shirtless Morgan next to the kitchen. Morgan appeared to have a blowtorch in one hand and a machete in the other. It's not clear in the body cam video what Morgan and the officers say to one another, but police later told KSL-TV that Morgan told the officers to shoot him.
Officers subdued the 36-year-old man with a stun gun and threw his machete to the side,
although by then a nearby curtain had already been set ablaze. As the curtain began burning out of control, officers dragged an indisposed Morgan out of the house.
Morgan has been booked into the Salt Lake County jail and faces charges of aggravated arson and aggravated assault, as well as aggravated cruelty to animals. According to KUTV, his family was able to escape unscathed before police arrived at the home.
