CHICAGO — A cellphone store clerk with a concealed carry permit shot two suspected robbers on Wednesday after they pulled out guns.

The incident is the second report in a week of a Chicago store worker shooting would-be robbers.

The two male suspects, aged 24 and 35, walked into the T-Mobile store on the city's South Side at around 11 a.m., according to the Chicago Tribune.

They pretended to shop for a few minutes before pulling out guns. Neither suspect fired a shot, however, witnesses told Chicago radio station WLS.

Instead, a store employee shot the 24-year-old suspect in the left arm and abdomen, while his alleged accomplice took bullets to his left arm and groin, police said, according to the Chicago Tribune.

The two suspects fled and escaped in a car as the store clerk chased them and called police with their descriptions.

The suspects drove to a nearby hospital where police caught them, the Chicago Tribune reported.

The store, an independent T-Mobile dealer, had been robbed several times in the past month, neighbors told WLS.

T-Mobile district manager Neil Tadros said he hoped employees with weapons and concealed carry permits would act as a deterrent.

"Thank God for concealed carry," he told the Chicago Tribune.

The incident follows the fatal shooting of two teenagers by an employee as they attempted to rob a Chicago liquor store on Saturday.

A police spokesman said he did not anticipate charges would be filed against the clerk in that case, the Chicago Tribune reported.
