First ladies often enjoy the privilege of being dressed by top designers, but one of the most exalted names in the fashion business won’t be making himself available to Melania Trump.
On Wednesday, Tom Ford told the hosts on 'The View' that he does not intend to work with the future first lady.
Ford, a Democrat and Hillary Clinton supporter, stressed that the move is not one of political protest and clarified that his stance is nothing new, saying, “I was asked to dress her quite a few years ago and I declined. She’s not necessarily my image.”
He also noted about Clinton that “...she shouldn't be wearing my clothes. They're too expensive. And I don't mean this in a bad way…[She needs] to relate to everybody."
Notably, Ford did outfit Michelle Obama in 2011.
Said the designer, “Michelle, I dressed once when she was going to Buckingham Palace for dinner with the queen and that I thought was appropriate.”
