Karen Chan, better known as Chankalun, is the only female neon artist in Hong Kong. Initially turned away from the tightly-guarded field, she persevered and managed to convince one of the city’s last neon artists to take her under his wing.

Today, she collaborates with artists all over the world to breathe new life into the art form, even as Hong Kong’s trademark neon signboards are slowly being replaced by LEDs.
