00:00 In Tunisia, it's orange blossom season.
00:03 The precious flower, or white gold,
00:05 is a source of national pride.
00:08 Ever since retiring a few years ago,
00:10 Samia Marzouk has kept herself busy every spring
00:14 by harvesting the flowers in front of her house.
00:17 She then distills them to make
00:19 her very own orange blossom water.
00:21 Every year I pick about 16 kilos of orange blossom,
00:25 which produces about 16 liters of floral water.
00:28 It's for me and my children,
00:29 and we repeat the tradition every year.
00:31 It's a ritual that Rania Mansour,
00:35 a professional orange blossom distiller, has mastered.
00:38 She uses an artisanal distillation technique
00:41 that was passed down by her mother and grandmother.
00:45 The flower petals are boiled in these copper pots.
00:48 The steam is then captured and condensed
00:51 by using cold water, which produces the floral magic.
00:57 I've stuck to our family's traditional method
01:00 because our materials are among the best in the world.
01:03 Copper is the best for retaining the heat,
01:06 and the clay pots are the best for keeping the water cold.
01:09 The materials we use are 100% natural.
01:12 Tunisia's orange blossom is renowned around the world.
01:17 It's used in cosmetics, baking,
01:20 and even traditional medicine.
