00:00 Hi guys, this is Emily from Emily's Anthology. I have for you guys today a really quick, really simple smoky eye.
00:07 And this is the kind of smoky eye that would really suit Asian eye shapes, whether it be monolids, small eyes, or just hooded eyelids like mine.
00:16 I used purple tones with this. You can use any color you like, basically.
00:22 As a little point of guidance, I would say that blues, purples, plumy colors, and browns suit Asian eyes really, really well.
00:34 So if you guys like the look, please watch on to find out how you can get it, and thank you so much for watching.
00:39 So I started by laying down my base. If you're going to use an eyeshadow that will fall out, or if you're just not that good at applying eyeshadow,
00:47 then you can skip your base, do your eyes first, and then come back to the base.
00:52 I already did my base. I used the Anti-Blemish Solutions foundation from Clinique, and this is in the color 2, Fresh Ivory.
01:01 I also did my brows. For this, I used the Bloom Eyebrow Duo.
01:06 And now I'm going to move on to my eyes. For the eyes, I'm starting off with a base.
01:11 I used the Models Prefer Eye Primer, and I'm just going to apply this all over my lids.
01:17 And you're going to want to do this to help your eyeshadows stick better and last longer.
01:23 It also intensifies the color of the eyeshadows, which is great.
01:27 Another base that you can use, and this is one that I really like, is the Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadow Liner.
01:33 And this is in the color Strut.
01:38 I love using this for smoky eyes because it helps smoke out the eyes so well and holds onto the other eyeshadows,
01:44 so nothing smudges, and it lasts so long and looks so intense and dark and smoky.
01:52 And I'm just applying it with a clean finger.
01:56 And I'm also going to apply it to my lower lash line.
02:00 Don't have to worry about being too neat with this at this point.
02:06 Now I'm just going to take a fluffy eyeshadow brush and blend the color out.
02:11 Now with all cream eyeshadow bases, you have to remember not to put too much on,
02:18 because these things, although they set, if you apply too much, they can crease.
02:23 And I'm just blending this eyeshadow into my crease and softening any harsh edges.
02:29 Now I want to apply my main base color.
02:32 For this entire tutorial, I'm going to be using this Clinique Color Surge Eyeshadow Quad,
02:37 and this is in the color 110 Plum Seduction.
02:41 Now I'm going to be taking this purple color from the middle on a flat eyeshadow brush,
02:48 and I'm going to put that color onto the lid, focusing on the inner corner.
02:57 Next, I'm going to flip the eyeshadow brush over and pick up this color over here from the quad,
03:02 the darkest purple color, and I'm picking it up on my brush,
03:06 and I'm applying it to the outer third of the eye, and winging it out slightly.
03:13 This will add some shape and dimension to your eye.
03:18 Once that's done, I'm going to be taking the equivalent of a MAC 217 brush,
03:23 this is the Sigma E25 blending brush, and I'm just going to blend the edges out,
03:29 into my crease, and a bit outward at the outer edges.
03:35 Now that that's done, I want to run a crease color through my crease to add some dimension.
03:43 I'm going to be using this color over here from the same palette.
03:47 It's just a minky, taupe-y color.
03:51 I'm picking it up with the same brush that I used earlier, or you can use a clean brush, it's up to you.
03:55 And I'm just going to run it into my crease.
03:58 Because it's from the same palette, this minky taupe has a bit of a purple undertone to it,
04:12 which makes it match the eyeshadows on the mobile lid really well,
04:16 so it gives your entire look sort of a put-together, polished kind of feel.
04:21 Okay, now the upper lid is done, and I'm going to move to the lower lid.
04:25 On the lower lid, I'm going to be using this brush.
04:27 This is the Boots No. 7 smoky eyeliner brush.
04:30 I think I'm just going to grab the darkest color from the palette,
04:35 and run it on my lower lash line, about a third of the way in.
04:39 Now this part should be nice and smoky already, from the Benefit cream shadow that we applied earlier.
04:50 Now clean the brush and grab this color from the palette,
04:54 and apply it the rest of the way on the lower lash line.
04:57 For this next step, you can either use a cream liner, a gel liner, or a pencil liner, it's completely up to you.
05:07 What I do have to say about it is that cream liners and gel liners set really easily,
05:12 so once you apply them, you have to work really quickly to smudge them out if you want that really nice smoky effect.
05:17 With pencil liners, it's a bit different because they're easier to smudge and they don't set as quickly.
05:23 Some of them don't set at all.
05:24 I'm going to be using a pencil liner for this look.
05:27 And the pencil liner that I'm going to be using is the Clinique quick liner for eyes intense,
05:33 and this is in the color intense plum.
05:35 Now I'm just going to apply it onto my lash line.
05:46 And in the inner rims of my eyes as well, in between the lashes.
05:50 And I'm bringing it up slightly at the outer corners, just to lift my eyes a little bit.
05:59 Now I'm going to use the other side of the pencil.
06:04 There's a little spongy tip that comes with this pencil.
06:07 And I'm going to use that to smudge out the eyeliner that I just applied.
06:14 [smoothing out eyeliner]
06:21 This just softens the look a little.
06:24 And I'm going to apply the same eyeliner onto my lower lash line.
06:29 All the way across.
06:35 And just smudge it out as well.
06:37 Now that's my eyes done.
06:41 Remember that if you want your eyes to look a bit more intense,
06:45 and I'm not so soft and smoky,
06:47 then you can use a dark black eyeliner on the inner rims of your eyes, or as your eyeliner.
06:53 And that kind of gives it a more intense look, but it also makes your eyes smaller.
06:58 I'm now going to be applying a mascara.
07:00 The mascara that I'm using is the Astralis voluptuolash mascara.
07:04 And this is really good for picking up every single one of your eyelashes.
07:09 [applying mascara]
07:17 And on the lower lash line as well.
07:19 Finally, as a highlighter, I'm going to be going in with the lightest color in the palette.
07:28 And I'm picking it up with just a pencil liner brush.
07:32 And I'm just going to apply it right underneath the arch of my eyebrow.
07:39 And in the inner corners of my eyes.
07:42 I just applied my false eyelashes, and now I'm going to do the under eye concealing.
07:48 If you chose not to do your base before, now would be the time to do it.
07:52 Apply your foundation and concealer.
07:55 I already did my base, so I'm just going to be applying concealer here.
08:00 And as usual, I'm going to be blending it out with the NP set foundation brush.
08:06 [applying foundation]
08:11 For the blush, I have another Clinique product.
08:14 I was just sent a bunch of Clinique products and I couldn't help myself.
08:17 They're all so gorgeous.
08:19 This is the Fresh Bloom All Over Color.
08:22 Look at how shimmery and gorgeous it is.
08:26 And this is in the number 2 Posy.
08:28 I'm going to be using a Real Techniques blush brush with this.
08:33 I really don't want to ruin it.
08:35 I'm going to dip my brush into all three colors.
08:38 Trying very hard not to smudge anything.
08:41 And I'm just going to pat it onto my cheeks.
08:44 This is a really good blush to use with this look.
08:50 Because the foundation that I used, the Anti-Blemish foundation, it has quite a matte finish.
08:55 So using a blush with a lot of shimmer will make up for the matte, dry kind of look.
09:03 And give your skin a more dewy glow.
09:05 I also want to contour my skin.
09:08 And for this, I'm going to be using the Sleek Contour Kit.
09:11 And this is in the color Medium.
09:13 I'm also using the NP set blush contour brush.
09:17 And basically what I'm going to do is dab my brush into the product.
09:21 Tap it off on the back of my hand.
09:23 And then apply it to my contours.
09:26 Just in a sweeping back and forth motion.
09:32 And the trick to contouring is to use as little product as possible.
09:36 And layer it on to achieve the intensity that you want.
09:40 Because if you use too much product at one go, it will look muddy and dirty.
09:45 Instead of giving you that really nice natural contour that you're looking for.
09:50 And I'm taking the color up onto my temples.
09:53 As well as underneath my jawline.
09:58 Now as I'm going, I am still dabbing the product off on the back of my hand.
10:03 I'm also going to use the same Sleek Contour Kit.
10:06 And a Real Techniques Deluxe Crease Brush.
10:10 And contour down my nose.
10:13 I also want to add a subtle highlight to some of the high points of my face.
10:20 And for this, I'm going to be using the Jemma Kid Dewy Glow All Over Radiance Cream.
10:26 And this is in the color Rose Gold.
10:28 I'm going to pick it up with a Real Techniques Zippling Brush.
10:31 And I'm just going to apply it to the high points of my face.
10:35 This is a really, really subtle highlight color.
10:39 So you're not going to be seeing huge chunks of glitter.
10:43 Or really shimmery skin.
10:47 All you're going to get is a really subtle, really dewy finish to your skin.
10:51 And this I think is the most similar kind of highlighter to the Tom Ford Shade and Illuminate Palette.
10:58 Now I'm just going to quickly set my concealer with this Australis Ready Set Go Finishing Powder.
11:04 Just going to take a tiny bit and run it underneath my eyes where I put my concealer earlier.
11:10 Being careful to stay away from all the points that I highlighted earlier.
11:15 Now finally, the lips.
11:19 If you have a darker skin tone than I do, this is still a really good look to use.
11:24 But you should use a lipstick that compliments your skin tone a little bit more.
11:28 This is the perfect example of a lipstick that compliments slightly darker skin tones.
11:34 This is L'Oreal's Ferris Nude Lipstick.
11:37 It's really creamy and gorgeous.
11:39 It's one of my favorite lipsticks to use for everyday.
11:42 And I think it'll look a lot lighter on those of you with darker skin.
11:46 So it will look more nude than plummy.
11:50 For a lighter skin tone, I'm trying another lip color.
11:54 So I just removed the L'Oreal lipstick and I'm going to try a different one for a lighter skin tone.
11:59 Like mine. And this is the Collection 2000 Lip Cream.
12:03 Cream Puff Moisturizing Lip Cream in the color Powder Puff.
12:09 [Trying to apply it to my lips]
12:13 And you could leave it at this.
12:21 Or if you're a fan of lip gloss like I am, you can top it off with a nice pink lip gloss.
12:26 I have here the Bourjois Effect 3D Gloss Volume and Shine Elixir.
12:32 I think that's what it's called.
12:34 And this is the color 04.
12:38 A couple of tips before I end this video for Asian eye shapes.
12:50 Always make sure that you have a color in the crease that gives more dimension to your eye.
12:56 If you're a monolid, the color to focus on would be the outer darker color.
13:01 Make a V-like shape the way that I did, but maybe a little bit more intense and large in proportion to your eye shape.
13:12 If you're trying to find your crease, what you should do is tilt your head back in a mirror.
13:17 And you should see a little indent where your socket line is.
13:21 And that's the guidance that you should use for a monolidder.
13:24 Your eyeshadow should always be above that line and not below it.
13:28 And that is my finished look.
13:31 A really simple, quick, smoky eye for Asian eyelids.
