00:00 Let's go ahead.
00:01 Alright, hello everyone.
00:04 Mike Karnick here.
00:05 As you can read, I share my last haircut in 2016, straight out of Zurich, Switzerland.
00:13 Very cool hair.
00:16 Just gonna actually look at her hair quickly.
00:18 This was a box bob, done about nine months ago.
00:26 All she did, she just kind of trimmed her bangs a bit, but the rest she just literally like grow.
00:31 A box bob is beautiful, old Sassoon's haircut.
00:34 Straight bangs, and then straight through here by the jaw, so like a bob, box bob.
00:39 Kind of boxed in.
00:40 Absolutely brilliant.
00:41 Tyler Swift actually scored that haircut about two years ago at the Grammys.
00:46 Absolutely loved it.
00:47 So, this is growing out.
00:49 So, what I'm sharing here with you, super basic.
00:53 Just a perfect clean up. Just gonna clean up the outline.
00:57 We're gonna clean up the bangs.
00:59 We're gonna add a few layers to it.
01:01 Really simple.
01:02 I'm also, I've decided on doing that on her because she's actually a hair model for me.
01:09 At my up and coming show here in Zurich, Switzerland.
01:12 March 19th.
01:13 It's my 14th Karkonplakt show.
01:18 Which I'm gonna have actually beautiful guests here all the way from the States, from Atlanta, Georgia.
01:23 George Alderete.
01:24 He will be doing all the color.
01:26 So, that's actually the first time he'll be here.
01:28 And they'll be all using Kuhn color as well because he's a Kuhn artist.
01:33 I'm actually also heading January 20th to Atlanta, Georgia.
01:40 Bucket to the Kuhn Academy for the launch of Blend.
01:44 The relaunch of Blend.
01:46 Brand new, super exciting hair product.
01:48 Mega looking forward to here.
01:51 A little blimp quickly.
01:52 Super excited.
01:54 So, that'll be back in the States again.
01:56 And then of course the first trade show in 2017.
02:00 ISSC in Long Beach.
02:02 We'll have in three complimentary classes.
02:05 Sunday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday.
02:08 And of course non-stop in-booth education.
02:10 And we're launching five new Kark shears.
02:12 And here, get a little taste.
02:15 I'm going to do everything with the brand new Kark Shear K7 inch.
02:20 And I've said on that, absolutely beauty.
02:22 So, we're going to start off this haircut.
02:24 For everybody that knows me, always turn the cape around to cut the outline here.
02:30 Just to clean it up.
02:31 Really beautiful.
02:32 Just hold up here in the front.
02:34 We'll just turn her a little bit around.
02:36 That's all good.
02:37 Super.
02:39 So, let's comb the hair straight down.
02:42 And as you can see here, you know, beautifully grown out.
02:46 I mean, considering nine months, absolutely great.
02:48 So, all we do is just kind of like clean up the outline now.
02:53 Okay.
02:54 Just keep the weight on both legs.
02:55 As usually, the hair was just simply washed and air dried.
03:00 So, nothing else.
03:01 You can see it dries with a little bit of a kick to it.
03:04 So, I can imagine, actually when I add a layer to it, it'll maybe actually have a little bit more movement to it.
03:10 So, all we do here is cut the outline here beautifully.
03:15 And I'll just tell you, this particular blade here, paradise.
03:20 Brilliant for all dry hair cutting fanatics.
03:27 Just generally, you want to just love longer shears.
03:31 So, this particular shear, it's nothing like it on the market because we have a very special edge on that shear, which is actually made to cut dry hair.
03:44 And I will tell you all about that particular edge when I see you at the ICC show or on my next Facebook Live in 2017.
03:56 I'll explain.
03:57 But it's nothing like it on the market, trust me.
04:00 So, super special.
04:01 Okay?
04:02 So, just clean it up all the way around.
04:04 That's enough.
04:05 Because I'm not worrying about too much the hair in the front because we're adding layers.
04:09 So, I'm going to cut that hair anyway.
04:10 All right, here.
04:11 Clean it out.
04:12 I might going to take some weight out in the end, but just leaving it for now.
04:15 So, you can have a seat.
04:16 Excellent.
04:29 Yeah?
04:30 Good?
04:31 Excellent.
04:32 So, all right.
04:35 I'm right-handed in this particular technique.
04:37 I stand on the person's right side.
04:40 So, for all the lefties, go to the left.
04:43 All the right-handed people, we shall stand on the right.
04:48 I'm cutting it this time here.
04:53 When I cut her at the Baux Bob nine months ago, we cut it straight from the center.
04:58 Her natural part, though, is here just slightly off-center.
05:01 So, that's where I'm grabbing here for my bangs.
05:05 And as you can see, and as I said, she kind of cleaned up the length a little bit.
05:10 Actually, the bangs a little bit just kind of kept them neat and a little shorter.
05:16 So, I'm going to show you that section right away here in a minute.
05:21 Just going to section off the hair back here.
05:25 Excellent.
05:26 Just clip that away.
05:27 Hold on.
05:30 There it is.
05:31 All good.
05:33 Fantastic.
05:34 So, one, two.
05:36 [inaudible]
05:39 Just section off here, highest point of the head to the back of the ear.
05:45 As you can see here, see that?
05:53 Actually, let me do this.
05:54 Let me go here from the center so you guys can see it well.
05:58 It doesn't actually matter.
06:04 Just do fine.
06:05 See this here?
06:06 You can really choose well here.
06:09 There we go.
06:11 This is too much.
06:15 Take that in now.
06:18 That's basically what her fringe bangs pony was like for the box bob here, give and take.
06:33 I'm just going to add here those few.
06:35 I'm going to really make it super symmetrical.
06:39 Just a few hair here.
06:40 It's hardly nothing.
06:41 Okay, but this is actually the length.
06:43 So, I'm just adjusting it to this length here.
06:46 And then, for everybody that knows me too, always work in the triangle section.
06:50 I just simply love triangles.
06:52 They work so well.
06:53 Of course, the way the head is shaped.
06:54 Okay, I'm just going to turn it slightly sideways so you can see it really well.
06:58 Also, watch out the tension on the hair.
07:03 When you do cut dry hair, you always have a little bit more tension on the hair.
07:07 You never know if you have a band to it or so.
07:09 As you can see, I grabbed the whole entire section here.
07:12 I'm going to cut it at a 45 degree finger angle and straight through.
07:16 Just cleanly straight through from short to long.
07:19 Okay, shortest part in our haircut.
07:22 And then, our second section is a center section.
07:27 It's in the center of the head.
07:28 That's why it's called center section.
07:32 Okay, for all the ones who have Instagram, you can follow me on Instagram.
07:40 I'm @mike_karg.
07:44 I post stuff, little tips and tricks.
07:47 And then, of course, of all the travels I have, every so often, a little something fun.
07:54 Okay, so in case anybody is interested on that.
07:59 All right, so here, center section.
08:06 There you go.
08:07 Excellent.
08:09 Now, what I'm doing here is I'm taking this section.
08:17 And what I'm going to do here quickly is--this is actually a really nice technique.
08:26 Oh, here it is.
08:27 I'm just going to switch quickly to my K-Curve Royale.
08:32 And by the way, we're having a special going on in the beginning of 2017.
08:39 Okay, I'm old Karg.
08:41 Cheers.
08:42 Just for like a quick flash sale to get you off the ground for 2017.
08:48 But for all the ones who can't make it to ISTC.
08:52 Center section.
08:55 Grab it.
08:57 This is my longest part of the bangs here.
09:02 And I take my curved chair.
09:04 And you see here, this is actually--this is hair from all the way to the crown.
09:10 Okay, the shortest point right here.
09:12 All the way to the crown and everything in between.
09:15 That's what I'm going to connect now.
09:17 So I grab the section.
09:19 I lay my hand sideways, as you can see here.
09:22 And I just cut here in the connection with the K-Curve, which is really great.
09:27 Now check this out.
09:28 See how clean and how neat this is cut?
09:31 Absolutely to perfection.
09:34 Okay, really super easy.
09:36 This layering technique always works.
09:41 Now I switch back to my K7-inch Royale.
09:46 That's the new baby for 2017.
09:51 Here, what I'm doing now here is on the side.
09:54 I'm combing the hair straight out.
09:56 But look at that.
09:57 I'm over-directing it.
09:58 Not 45.
10:00 I'm over-directing it, but I'm keeping it relatively flat here.
10:04 Taking the longest point and connect.
10:06 And my fingers are parallel to the section.
10:12 I'm doing this so I keep a nice, beautiful outline here.
10:17 Again, we're just trimming this up.
10:19 We're just shaping this up.
10:21 Add just a quick little layer to it.
10:23 That's it.
10:24 Same thing on the other side.
10:26 I'm going to turn her around so you guys can see well.
10:34 Okay, same here too.
10:37 Instead of holding it up to a 45, I'm having a flat angle here.
10:43 Longest point.
10:45 Fingers parallel to the parts.
10:47 And cut so you can never go wrong.
10:49 Always watch out the way you hold your fingers to the parts.
10:55 Okay?
10:56 This technique, by the way, works beautifully also in wet hair.
11:00 Not a problem at all.
11:03 Super.
11:04 And then when you're done, look at this.
11:06 This is what you end up with.
11:08 Slightly disconnected throughout the top layer, but super cool.
11:11 Very innocent and not a big deal.
11:15 Because, again, for all the ones who just kind of clicked onto it now,
11:18 she is a hair model of mine for my 14th Kargon Pluck Show coming up March 19th
11:25 here in Zurich, Switzerland at the Miller Studio.
11:28 And we're having a beautiful guest from the United States, George Alderetti,
11:37 who is a great hair colorist for Kuhn USA.
11:44 Horizontal section.
11:48 Straight up.
11:52 So, in here, just going to change things up a bit.
11:55 Going to take my--one of my favorite Karksheer KT Slide Royale.
12:01 Check this one out.
12:04 That's why it slides because it has a very different blade finish.
12:08 One of a kind.
12:11 I was the first company literally to launch this on the market many, many, many, many, many, many years ago.
12:20 Here I'm pulling it straight up, longest point from the side.
12:23 And now here I'm going to point cut into it with a texturizing shear.
12:26 I mean, how cool is that?
12:28 You can point cut with a texturizing shear.
12:32 And, you know, I'm doing this because my model, she's not going to be blow-drying that hair straight.
12:39 It's more like a shake and bake, like a wash and wear.
12:42 And that's why.
12:43 So if you have a little bit more texture throughout or, you know, if you have a little bit more textured ends,
12:48 it actually blends in a little bit better.
12:51 You're not going to see any cutting lines whatsoever.
12:54 Same thing on the other side.
12:55 Horizontal section all the way straight up here.
12:59 Longest point just like on the other side.
13:02 And point cut through it.
13:03 You can even bend your knuckles here a little bit.
13:05 It's up to you.
13:06 Always do on the left and on the right side the same thing.
13:09 Reason being so they turn out the same.
13:13 If you're looking for an isometric, don't do the same thing on the other side.
13:17 And there you have it.
13:19 Okay.
13:20 So there you go.
13:21 Connected all the two.
13:22 Beautiful.
13:24 Excellent.
13:25 Getting there.
13:26 Very simple.
13:28 So, turning her around.
13:30 Lex, you know what?
13:31 Why don't you get over quickly?
13:33 Yeah, super.
13:35 Awesome.
13:36 So, here just sideways.
13:40 All we got to do now here is just kind of like connect.
13:44 Again, as you can see here, very, very light, light, light layer here on the side.
13:49 Super light.
13:51 Maybe almost like one of the graduation here on the side.
13:54 So it's very, very little.
13:56 So I'm taking a vertical section from top of the head to the nape of the neck.
14:02 Pull it forward here and just adjust.
14:05 And now I'm having my KT Slide Royale.
14:09 I am actually cutting here with the KT Slide Royale, as you can see.
14:15 And my fingers are moving while I cut.
14:19 Let me show you this here quickly.
14:21 And I'm going to go through the perimeter one more time, which is another different technique.
14:27 But I'll show you quickly here.
14:29 See?
14:30 And I'm just hitting the ends.
14:32 And look how my fingers slide while I cut.
14:35 So what that affects here, it just keeps it really nice and soft.
14:40 And so it doesn't get cut too straight.
14:44 Okay?
14:45 Work till the center back, which we pretty much did.
14:49 But I'll take here one more time the section.
14:51 Always keep it here at a 45.
14:53 Reason being so I actually won't cut in too much of a layer.
15:03 So that's why it's always a very secure angle here, cutting it here at a 45.
15:09 Okay?
15:10 Because you can always add to it.
15:12 And you can see here, you see how beautifully that just blends here in.
15:16 So, excellent.
15:17 It's just beautifully sculpted here, dry.
15:19 And the great thing about dry hair is this is exactly what she gets.
15:24 There's no shrinking effect in here.
15:26 Nothing, which makes people really happy.
15:28 Okay?
15:29 Same thing here.
15:31 As well to the other side.
15:33 Just going to take a diagonal section again from the top of the head to the nape of the neck.
15:45 Same thing again.
15:48 Enough.
15:50 Always here.
15:51 Nice tension.
15:52 That's what you have.
15:53 You have more tension when you cut dry hair here.
15:59 You need a little bit more tension.
16:01 Okay?
16:02 There you go.
16:03 Blending it beautifully in here.
16:06 My fingers are parallel to this section, so nothing can go wrong.
16:10 I'll be exactly the same length as on the other side.
16:14 Okay?
16:15 Excellent.
16:16 Clip away.
16:19 Next section here.
16:26 And just like I did on the other side, my fingers are moving while I cut.
16:31 Last section, till the center back.
16:36 See that?
16:37 Just super cool.
16:38 Excellent.
16:42 Nice.
16:43 See how beautiful that folds?
16:45 We're going to have to see it one more time.
16:54 Excellent.
16:55 So, since we cut the left and the right here at a 45, we end up in the center, which is the longest.
17:06 So, take a big triangle section.
17:12 A little more throughout the top layer, the crown versus in the nape.
17:18 Bring it all the way up here.
17:21 And point cut into it again, over-directing it.
17:25 I love over-directing hair.
17:27 Just always remember where you're pulling it to so you do the same thing on both sides.
17:33 Excellent.
17:34 See here?
17:35 Super nice.
17:36 Not too aggressive layers.
17:38 Absolutely brilliant.
17:40 A perfect little haircut for to kind of bend over for, you know, in between the holidays now and getting it ready for March,
17:47 because that's when the big haircut will come on.
17:51 It's actually also one of George's model, color model.
17:55 In case you watched George, there you go.
18:02 Here, vertical section, pulling it straight out.
18:11 And just going to eliminate a little bit of weight quickly.
18:17 Vertical section, pulling it straight out.
18:24 Okay now, so, same thing here too.
18:28 On the other side.
18:31 There you go.
18:33 Pulling it straight out here as well.
18:39 Just take some weight out through the perimeter.
18:42 And by the way, one of my favorite techniques, I guess.
18:45 Absolute no-brainer.
18:47 Always works.
18:49 And remember, you can't take off too much because half of the metal is missing.
18:53 Okay?
18:55 Awesome.
18:56 So, let's have a look.
19:01 Super.
19:02 Second.
19:08 So.
19:11 What I'm going to be doing right here on the side, super nice little technique.
19:15 One of my favorite.
19:17 So I'm just going to slightly undercut that.
19:19 That's for people who put up their hair a lot or tuck their hair behind the ear, which a lot of people do.
19:25 So what I'll do here is I'll take a section here out.
19:28 It's about two centimeters, about an inch inwards from the hairline.
19:36 I'm pulling that section straight towards me.
19:39 And now what I'm doing here is, it's really great, pulling the hair straight out.
19:44 Here is my longest point from the bangs, from the pony.
19:49 I keep my fingers parallel to the section and I'm shortening this here with the KT slide.
19:57 You see how soft that is?
19:59 Absolutely great.
20:00 And the great thing about it is if you actually do this with a texturizing shear,
20:06 is you keep the solidness on the hair.
20:10 You're not going to slice it up like you would do with a razor.
20:14 But you have the softness, so you have two in one, which is really great.
20:20 But again, in the end of the day, you should use what is best for you, if you prefer a razor or texturizing shears.
20:29 I'm a fan of efficiency, fast and efficient.
20:38 I also think this is for busy hair stylists.
20:42 I like things simple and uncomplicated.
20:46 I like flowy, moving hair.
20:48 I like sexy hair.
20:50 I like feminine hair.
20:51 I like hair that makes a woman walk two inches higher.
20:55 Gives her a lot of confidence and security.
20:58 And not has to talk and hide.
21:00 Feels great about himself.
21:02 I don't like weird hair.
21:03 I like good looking hair.
21:05 Now what is that, right?
21:07 That's all it is for person to person.
21:09 Same thing on the other side.
21:11 Let me show you quickly.
21:12 You have this one here.
21:13 Super cool.
21:15 Just slightly adapt this connected here.
21:19 Just on the side.
21:20 That's it.
21:21 Just to shake it up a bit.
21:22 We're going to do the same thing on the other side.
21:24 I'll show you one more time.
21:27 You take a two inch, sorry, an inch section, about two centimeters approximately.
21:36 Inwards from the hairline.
21:38 And left and the right side the same.
21:40 And especially if he has such dense hair as my model has.
21:44 I mean look how many hair she has per square inch.
21:48 So therefore, you know, you can take a little bit of a bigger piece actually.
21:51 So you comb the hair straight towards you.
21:53 Again, we said the longest point from the bangs, from the pony.
21:58 My fingers are parallel to the section.
22:03 That's how you can always balance things out that you do not leave one side longer or shorter than the other.
22:11 Okay, so you get exactly left and the right side the same.
22:15 Because trust me, anybody can cut one side shorter than the other.
22:18 But cutting both sides the same length, there's a trick.
22:21 So there you go.
22:22 Pulling it straight out.
22:23 Here again as well we have like just a beautiful softness which really works out great.
22:27 And then if you have the bangs here that are just a little bit too heavy, look at this.
22:32 You just slide it out.
22:33 I mean how great is that?
22:35 Okay, give me one other tool company, shear company, that actually makes a texturizing shear you can slide out like that.
22:41 There's none.
22:43 Okay, then in the end, always pull the left and the right side together, straight down.
22:51 Perfect.
22:52 Look at that.
22:53 We didn't even rehearse that.
22:54 It's completely the same length.
22:57 How cool.
22:58 Okay.
23:00 Awesome.
23:01 So, excellent.
23:05 And I think this is just now the proper clean up haircut.
23:09 Again, she gets her new look, March 19th, Zurich, 14th Kargan Plagg Show at Miller Studio.
23:17 Okay, so this is a really good in-between haircut.
23:21 Super cool.
23:22 So what we're going to be using here a little bit is, I'm going to use, I kind of start falling in love with that here.
23:29 A little bit of the Kewn, the blend.
23:33 It's a refreshing spray.
23:35 It's a dry shampoo, dry shampoos, we all know.
23:38 But, you know, they become kind of like part of our goods now in our toiletry bag and found in any woman's bathroom nowadays, more than one bottle.
23:48 Okay, so give it always a little bit of a shake to it.
23:51 I always like to shake products.
23:53 And then when you actually apply the dry shampoo to, obviously it's aerosol, so it helps, you know, kind of first of all always see how powerful the actual aerosol kick is here.
24:09 So, you know, and then always like give a little bit of like, take it in sections here and just spray on it a little bit.
24:16 Okay.
24:17 And I'm now in particular just kind of using it for the front part.
24:22 Okay, not too much in the back here as well.
24:27 But I know so many ladies, I also know a handful of guys, not me, they can't live without the dry shampoo anymore.
24:36 I mean, unbelievable.
24:37 Dry shampoo is actually, we used to do this when I did a lot of photo shoots when I was living in LA in the early 90s.
24:44 We used to use baby powder in the end of the shoot just with like a regular neck brush and we powdered all the, you know, everything on the hair or on the wig or whatever we had.
24:56 And it's basically the same thing.
24:58 As a matter of fact, I mean, it's been around longer than that.
25:01 Back in the good old days, and you can go back hundreds of years, powder has been around forever.
25:08 So, they've always matted it down, absorbs the grease, so now we just filled it up in an aerosol can.
25:16 So.
25:20 And let's do this as well.
25:21 That's what I started doing, which is really great.
25:25 The Q also from the blank company, from the blend line has a volume powder, so the volume powder is kind of a cool way.
25:32 I'm personally not a fan to put the powder straight onto the roots.
25:35 I'm actually a fan to put the powder in the hair.
25:41 Feels a little weird at first, but you have like that grip to it and now you can scrunch it in.
25:45 Check this out.
25:46 You have like instant volume.
25:51 So, there you go.
25:53 Uncomfortably kind of long, super nice.
25:56 Let's do this again.
25:57 I really like that.
25:58 Okay, just take powder, put it in your hand.
26:04 Feels a little funny at first, but it really gives a nice grip to it.
26:08 Very different than any other product, so that's what I started doing with that.
26:11 So, to never do what a product company says you should do with the product.
26:16 Do what you feel like doing.
26:17 Okay, then you can wash it in.
26:19 And I also think it's good when you give options to clients as well.
26:24 So, with that said, I'm going to say sign off from Zurich, Switzerland.
26:32 Not the last time, just for this year.
26:34 Everybody watching, happy new year.
26:38 Have a great start.
26:40 Lots of health.
26:41 I'll see you next year around.
26:42 We'll be also launching a new website, so give me until March.
26:45 We're working on it.
26:46 A lot of things are going on, so super exciting.
26:49 And really, thanks for the trust, following us, your contribution.
