00:02 - Washington commanders no longer belong
00:05 to Daniel Snyder DRS.
00:07 They now go over to Josh Harris.
00:08 And it's one of those things where Snyder has consistently
00:12 been in the news for all the wrong reasons.
00:14 Again, the exit season hit with $60 million in fines
00:17 through an investigation, kind of, you know,
00:20 I think for the NFL, it's like, look,
00:22 let's send the fine out,
00:23 but everyone's kind of talking about what's going on
00:25 over here, which is intentional and we know that.
00:30 The starting point though, I guess for you,
00:32 just the initial takeaway to see that this sale is complete
00:36 and Snyder is out of Washington.
00:39 - Yeah, it's pretty good news here.
00:40 If you are a commanders fan here,
00:41 because instead of worrying about what's on the football
00:44 field, you were just worrying about what's off the field,
00:46 how everything was turning into a circus.
00:49 Now this isn't an owner, Kevin, that bought in like,
00:51 hey, five years ago, just didn't work out.
00:53 This guy that bought in in 1999 has owned that franchise
00:56 right up till selling it yesterday here through 2023.
00:59 And coming up in the beginning of the show in the seven
01:01 and seven, he said, well,
01:02 give me a little bit of a thought process behind that.
01:05 This is one of the most proud franchises in sports.
01:07 You know, Joe Gibbs is your head coach, you know,
01:09 sellout after sellout, after sellout,
01:12 RFK Stadium before Jack Kent Cook Stadium,
01:14 which turned into FedEx Field.
01:16 That place, Kevin, used to absolutely rock in downtown DC.
01:20 One of the toughest places to play in football.
01:23 And then we see FedEx Field get brought in here in 1997
01:27 and had still a massive attendance, you know, 75,000,
01:31 80,000 people, sellouts every weekend.
01:33 And Daniel Snyder turned that into, oh no,
01:35 not enough people even come to the game.
01:37 We have to downsize the seating in the stadium
01:39 and beg people to come.
01:41 One of those season ticket lists, Kevin,
01:43 when he bought the team in 1999,
01:45 was the largest waiting list in the NFL.
01:48 Now there is no waiting list.
01:50 Imagine that.
01:51 How can you, and still, Kevin,
01:52 he's gonna make a couple billion dollars in the sale
01:55 despite ruining the franchise.
01:58 - Well, it's never that bad,
02:00 no matter the circumstances for anyone that's selling
02:03 as billions of dollars are changing hands on the sale.
02:08 The thing to me that catches the attention,
02:10 and there's already been some reporting on it,
02:12 is that Josh Harris could look to change the name.
02:15 And that before we kind of get into the commanders
02:18 and their outlook, DRS,
02:20 now if I know you, you probably want the name changed
02:22 because you think the name is terrible.
02:24 And I guess if the name was kind of viewed
02:26 as a positive one, maybe then we could leave it be.
02:31 But all in all, full identity change here, DRS.
02:36 Like, is it sacrilegious to suggest
02:38 I would even entertain a color change here if I was Harris?
02:43 - Yep, no, I'm doing every, and again,
02:45 the brand is so stained, you can't get it back.
02:47 Now, the one thing that we do know,
02:48 they're not going back to their original name.
02:50 Can we agree on that?
02:51 Where you see it on Twitter, like,
02:52 oh, finally, they're not doing that.
02:54 Now, also, if you really wanna get your boy DRS
02:56 all worked up, going back to the Washington football team,
02:59 I will lose my mind.
03:01 The commanders is a horrible name,
03:03 but it's just horrible because Daniel Snyder did it,
03:06 and they go, oh, we're gonna rebrand
03:07 and be the commanders.
03:08 Horrendous, you know, the way just like the W looks like,
03:12 you know, a kid just went on a 1984 TRS-80 computer
03:16 and put a printout of a W and said, that's our logo here.
03:19 Everything around that franchise stinks.
03:21 And even, Kevin, let's talk about the rebranding of it,
03:23 right?
03:24 If I'm Josh Harris, I come in,
03:26 and I know there's probably some good people
03:27 working in that building,
03:29 I remove everybody in a leadership position.
03:32 You say, well, Donnie, that's not fair.
03:33 If Daniel Snyder thought you were up to the job
03:36 and made you part of leadership,
03:37 I question that right off the bat.
03:39 There would almost be interviews for your job
03:40 all the way through that building
03:42 just to get it out of the way.
03:44 But rebranding, Kevin, the burgundy and gold
03:47 goes back so, so long.
03:48 But doesn't it just feel tarnished?
03:50 Like when you see that uniform,
03:51 it almost doesn't make sense
03:52 even what the name is called anymore.
03:54 You just think about, oh, Daniel Snyder
03:56 and that football team here.
03:58 I don't know if they're gonna change the color scheme,
04:00 but they need a new font, they need a new name,
04:02 and it would make so much more sense.
04:03 And also for the fans themselves who would say like,
04:05 okay, we already been through two name changes here.
04:08 What's the third?
04:08 No, get a complete fresh start.
04:10 Get everything Daniel Snyder touched out of that building,
04:13 including the name.
04:14 It makes sense, it really does.
