Wales headlines 25 July: AI technology to help spot cancer, police appeal for train assault witnesses, man sentenced in fatal car crash

  • last year
A man has been given a suspended sentence for causing a crash which led to the death of two generations of a family. Denise Hughes, 79 and Justine Hughes, 30 were both killed, with a 3 year old boy suffering minor injuries, when Rhys Miles lost control of his ford ranger in Fochriw, Caerphilly.

British Transport Police are appealing for witnesses to a sexual assault that took place on a train between Penrhiwceiber and Abercynon just before 1pm on July 1st. BTP say the victim was assaulted on the train before police arrested a man in connection with the incident in Abercynon, who is currently on police bail.

Researchers from Cardiff university have developed an artificial intelligence system that could mean breast cancer can be detected earlier, potentially saving lives. Cancer charities have said the technology has been phenomenal up to this point, with further research set to be undertaken.
