00:03 - How about Georgia?
00:05 I caught wind of this and I said, wait a minute,
00:08 is Georgia going to possibly
00:11 have legalized sports betting in the future?
00:14 - Georgia's again, one of the states kind of like Missouri.
00:17 We've had a couple of close calls and then nothing.
00:22 And it doesn't really seem like
00:26 next year is a great opportunity.
00:28 I've had a couple sources say they're really excited.
00:31 I've had one say, don't sleep on Georgia.
00:33 And then other sources are like, yeah, there's no way.
00:37 So it's gonna be really interesting to watch.
00:39 I ran again at the conference in Denver,
00:41 I ran into a Senator from Missouri and from Georgia.
00:44 And he said, I think there's a good chance we came close.
00:48 We need the governor to come out in favor of it.
00:50 We need to have the, he was a Republican.
00:53 We need the Democrats to concede
00:55 on a couple of things here and there.
00:57 And that's been the huge issue.
00:59 And I don't think this will come to a surprise
01:00 for anybody who follows national politics
01:03 is Georgia is very split.
01:05 The Democrats and the Republicans
01:07 are digging their heels on and different issues.
01:10 And in an issue like sports betting,
01:12 you need to come together.
01:14 There's people on both sides,
01:16 who are adamantly against the expansion of gaming.
01:20 And so you need to come together
01:21 because no state has a majority like that,
01:24 that can agree to say,
01:25 hey, let's legalize sports betting.
01:28 And it's just not happening.
01:30 We've seen it last year was,
01:31 it was the Democrats digging their feet in against
01:34 expanding healthcare for trans people.
01:39 The year before it was about voting rights
01:41 and the Democrats just said,
01:43 no, we're not supporting a Republican bill
01:45 to expand sports betting.
01:47 The other issue in Georgia is there's a split
01:52 on the idea that it needs to be a constitutional amendment.
01:57 There's some people who don't think it does
01:59 and they just wanna put a bill in.
02:00 Then there's other people who do
02:02 and then it'll have to go to voters.
02:04 And that's another issue next year
02:06 is because these are often Republican led bills.
02:08 Next year, 2024, it's a big election year.
02:12 They don't want to put,
02:14 this is what a source has told me,
02:16 sports betting on the ballot
02:17 because it'll draw more voters to the ballot box.
02:20 And that is a worry for them.
02:22 So that's an interesting take there.
02:26 And I think again, 2024 gonna be really interesting
02:30 to watch both Georgia and Missouri
02:32 because they're both come close,
02:34 but then they both got these weird issues
02:35 that are just kind of sitting there saying,
02:38 I don't know, maybe not this year.
