In the 2016 World Twenty20 final, Carlos Brathwaite faced the first ball of the last over. His side needed 19 runs to win and Brathwaite hammered four sixes in successive balls, steering West Indies to the most unlikely of victories. Three years on, Brathwaite was again trying to do the near-impossible for his country on the big stage. An onslaught from Carlos Brathwaite saw the Windies number six clatter five sixes in his innings of 101, only to be caught a foot in from the boundary when going for another maximum that would have been a match-winning strike. New Zealand's 291-8 looked plenty at one stage, but West Indies reached 286 thanks to Brathwaite's brutally brilliant showing. (Video: ICC)

00:06 Yeah, a lot of emotions as I can see.
00:08 Obviously, I felt I got out the back decent enough.
00:11 I didn't think that I was definite six, but I thought I had a good chance.
00:15 Then I saw him take the catch, then I saw him stumble.
00:18 So I figured out he might have to throw it in.
00:20 We can get a single and get down to the other end, or
00:22 it might still go for six.
00:23 So yeah, a lot of emotions ran through.
00:25 Obviously, as soon as he realized he had caught it, he had stayed inside.
00:29 Then it was just like so close, so far.
00:31 So yeah, I guess it was emotional.
00:35 Now they said they wanted better, wanted innings.
00:38 Good fight, good heart, very well played.
00:42 Keep your head up.
00:43 Yeah, so I mean, I appreciate the respect from fellow professionals.
00:48 Obviously, it was a little hard to take then.
00:50 But in hindsight, I probably could have been a little more welcoming.
00:56 But they were very understanding, obviously, as I said, a lot of emotions.
01:01 So for them to come off the high of their emotion from obviously winning a close
01:05 game and pay respects to what they thought was a good innings, I really appreciated that.
01:09 So salute the New Zealand boys for that.
01:12 I guess the conversation kind of changed and changed with Kimar.
01:15 Obviously, Lucky and Trent came back to get wickets, and we're doing well.
01:21 The ground had to bowl, Santana had to bowl.
01:23 And with all fairness to them, obviously, facing Lucky and Bolt,
01:28 a wicket more, wicket-taking options.
01:29 So when we were batting with the ground, home and Santana,
01:34 we always wanted to stay positive, just do the right things.
01:37 Then Kimar got out, unfortunately, when Henry came back.
01:40 And then with Cottrell, it was just the same thing.
01:43 Just watch the ball, let's just take it as far down as possible.
01:46 Let's keep believing.
01:47 And then obviously Cottrell got out as well.
01:50 And then with O'Shea coming, it was a little more clear-cut.
01:52 I had to be the one doing the heavy lifting.
01:54 I had to score.
01:55 And that was my chat with him.
01:58 I wouldn't always be able to bat five balls and get a single off the last.
02:01 But I'll take the first three balls, and then from the fourth ball,
02:03 I'll try to get a single while still looking to hit boundaries.
02:06 And if I do get into the opening run two, if we drop it short in the last two balls,
02:11 we get a single, and you bat one ball, you're good enough.
02:14 So yeah, I mean, we worked the game right down.
02:16 We played it exactly how we wanted to.
02:19 And we're just two or three yards away from being victorious.
