00:00 Chief Secretary to the Government Zuki Ali said in a brief statement that Ahmad Tariq
00:09 Rudin Saleh has been appointed as the country's new Attorney General.
00:13 The appointment takes effect on September 6.
00:16 The Solicitor General will succeed Idris Harun, whose contract ends on September 5.
00:22 Zuki also said the government thanked Idris for his service to the nation during his tenure
00:27 as Attorney General.
00:29 Tara Rudin is the first candidate to come directly from the judicial and legal service
00:34 since Abdul Ghani Patel held a top job between 2002 and 2015.
00:40 He was the Federal Court's Chief Registrar before being appointed Solicitor General in
00:44 March last year.
00:47 Idris was appointed as the AG in 2020, taking over from Tommy Thomas, who quit the post
00:52 following the collapse of the former Pakistan Harapan government.
