Reviewing the main takeaways from the Detroit Lions 21-20 victory against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Transcript
00:00 John, what is your reaction to the Lions season opening win?
00:03 Yeah, Vito, real interesting.
00:05 Man, everybody thought that the hype was out of control for the Detroit Lions.
00:10 And you saw a football team that went into Arrowhead Stadium and didn't even play their best football game.
00:17 You saw a football team that early on struggled a little bit to contain Patrick Mahomes,
00:23 got down to the Chiefs in an environment that was really wild, Vito.
00:28 You saw a crowd that was super excited to see the banner raised,
00:34 really excited for that football team to get out there.
00:37 The Chiefs fans are very loyal.
00:39 But, Vito, what you saw from the Detroit Lions is something that we got to see all of last year
00:46 when they started getting on their run.
00:48 This football team, Vito, is resilient.
00:51 They don't give up. They don't quit.
00:53 And when they face adversity, that young roster with a nice mix of veterans as well
00:59 was able to make plays coming out of halftime.
01:02 You saw Brian Branch really turn the tide with a game-changing interception,
01:07 showing freak athleticism by being able to reach back and secure that interception
01:11 and take the football to the end zone.
01:14 You saw a defense that was revamped really start to clamp down,
01:19 did not allow the Chiefs offense to secure a third-down conversion in the entire second half.
01:25 So you look at the Detroit Lions and you see a football team that,
01:30 despite not playing their best football game,
01:33 having issues early on with communication in the secondary,
01:36 not having many explosive plays,
01:39 you saw when the time came to make the key play, they were able to stop the Chiefs.
01:45 And just like everybody else, I was a little bit nervous
01:47 when the Chiefs had the football only trailing by one.
01:50 But Vito, given the fact that, hey, maybe you take a little bit of luck,
01:54 given that Cedarius Tony dropped a few footballs,
01:57 and the Chiefs also weren't playing their best brand of football,
02:01 you see the Detroit Lions come away with the victory.
02:05 And the Sia Blue that came to support the Detroit Lions,
02:08 they were very loud, boisterous, and they got to observe the Detroit Lions start the season 1-0.
