00:00 [NOISE]
00:10 >> Got a feeling this one's got the
00:13 potential to be a little bit special.
00:15 >> Yeah, two minute rounds also is gonna be a fast pace.
00:19 [NOISE]
00:22 >> Taking turns, round one.
00:24 >> This for the vacant Commonwealth Superbantamweight Championship,
00:28 it is Lisa Whiteside.
00:30 In the predominantly white trunks up against Tycee Gallagher from Luton.
00:35 Gallagher looking to go to work early with the jab.
00:37 Can be a very dangerous counter puncher as well.
00:40 Gallagher setting a really fast pace.
00:42 You said it, Paul, that she's not gonna wanna hold back here and
00:46 looking to try and get in and maybe knock Whiteside out of her rhythm.
00:50 And she's had a little look at her corner already here, Whiteside.
00:52 [NOISE]
01:00 >> See the range is with Gallagher,
01:03 Nick.
01:03 So to Whiteside to try and negate that, try and get inside and
01:07 try and get underneath.
01:09 But she's a little bit too upright at the moment, Lisa Whiteside.
01:11 >> And got tagged with a nice left hand counter from Gallagher.
01:15 I think she has a lot of weight behind these counters, Gallagher, but
01:18 she does counter very effectively.
01:19 Saw that in the fight against Nina Hughes.
01:22 Again, decent work with that left hand from Gallagher.
01:26 [NOISE]
01:35 >> Well, Whiteside looking to try and
01:36 get on the front foot, seeing if she can force Gallagher onto the back foot.
01:39 But Gallagher's always, I think, comfortable,
01:42 one of those that is comfortable coming forward or boxing off the back foot.
01:47 >> Good job there from Gallagher.
01:49 Just knocking the head back momentarily of Lisa Whiteside.
01:52 >> In the Hughes fight that she lost,
01:57 Nina Hughes did a lot of holding and spoiling and
01:59 really dragged Gallagher into the kind of fight she wanted.
02:02 And the referee allowed that to happen.
02:04 So it'll be interesting to see if Whiteside switches her tactics,
02:08 cuz it's not been going very well for her in this opening round.
02:11 The Gallagher jab has worked well.
02:13 Those left hand counters have been good.
02:15 >> One, two, three.
02:16 >> And landed a couple of decent right hands as well.
02:18 But Whiteside struggling with the range.
02:21 >> [APPLAUSE]
02:31 >> Well, you always think at the end of
02:38 a round, which is the boxer that's gonna make the adjustments,
02:41 which corner have got a little bit of fine tuning to do.
02:43 I would venture to suggest that's the Whiteside corner.
02:46 >> Yeah, same here.
02:47 I think she needs to have a little look.
02:49 I think she was a bit too upright in that round for me.
02:51 She's got a weight on the back foot.
02:52 She's not, no, but it's making her upright.
02:55 I think she needs to be on the front foot.
02:57 I think she needs to bend the front knee, slip from side to side,
02:59 get the head moving and try and close that gap.
03:02 Which Gallagher has created by the long range of levers which she has.
03:07 I think she's gotta close the distance a little bit faster this round.
03:10 Whiteside, and let her hands go.
03:11 Just let the shots go.
03:13 Don't worry about the power, just the volume.
03:14 Just plenty of shots.
03:16 >> [APPLAUSE]
03:23 >> Turn pro in 2019, Lisa Whiteside.
03:26 Couple of years earlier than Tysee Gallagher, but
03:29 then had to take three years off.
03:31 First of all with a very bad shoulder injury, and
03:34 then a little thing called giving birth.
03:36 Jensen, two years old now.
03:40 She is back again, and Gallagher again landing one of those right hands.
03:47 >> [APPLAUSE]
03:52 >> Judging the distance well here,
03:54 the younger woman.
03:55 Good footwork.
03:57 >> [APPLAUSE]
04:07 >> Good shot.
04:09 >> And a right hand again.
04:10 >> [APPLAUSE]
04:14 >> I like the work of the left hand as
04:15 well from Gallagher, but she can bring that right hand as well.
04:18 >> [APPLAUSE]
04:22 >> And Whiteside's gonna look to try and
04:24 bring pressure on the front foot.
04:26 And to do that, she's gonna start catching Gallagher,
04:30 getting her opponent's attention.
04:32 She's not really doing that at the moment.
04:34 >> [APPLAUSE]
04:44 >> She needs to relax Whiteside,
04:50 just let her hands go.
04:51 She's trying to hold up a little bit too much, waiting a little bit too long.
04:54 >> [APPLAUSE]
04:58 >> Again, falling short, and
05:00 Gallagher's picked her up beautifully.
05:02 Whiteside just not there, just not judging the distance,
05:05 particularly effectively early in this fight.
05:08 >> [APPLAUSE]
05:12 >> Confident look about Tycee Gallagher
05:14 after two rounds.
05:15 Now that's the best shot she's landed.
05:17 That left hand right on the belt from Whiteside, and
05:20 maybe that might just settle her down a little bit.
05:22 >> [APPLAUSE]
05:27 >> Finished the round strongly, but
05:29 I'm not sure she did enough to take the round, not on my card.
05:31 >> No, same here.
05:32 I think she's just taking a little bit longer than usual, Lisa Whiteside,
05:36 to ease into this fight, to find the rhythm, especially to find the target.
05:40 She just needs to let her hands go a little bit more.
05:43 I know it's easier said than done, the way Gallagher's boxing.
05:46 She's dangerous, and she's decent with the counters as Whiteside's coming in.
05:50 But I think a little bit more pressure,
05:51 just a bit more volume of punches from Whiteside will have an effect.
05:54 You can see, just a little bit too tense to let her hands go.
05:57 She's coming square on also,
05:59 but a lovely right hand there from Gallagher.
06:03 >> [MUSIC]
06:06 >> But she did land that decent shot of her own,
06:09 the last few seconds of the round.
06:11 Whiteside, and maybe that's gonna give her a bridgehead, and
06:14 work her way into this.
06:15 Still plenty of time left, just two rounds gone.
06:17 >> [APPLAUSE]
06:23 >> Round three then in this battle for
06:24 the Commonwealth Super Bantamweight title.
06:26 >> [APPLAUSE]
06:29 >> Gallagher's obviously been sold,
06:31 get behind the jab again.
06:33 Whiteside again, looking to try and land that right hand, and
06:36 it does land it earlier this time.
06:37 >> [APPLAUSE]
06:42 >> Let's see if Gallagher sticks to
06:43 working that jab.
06:44 >> [APPLAUSE]
06:49 >> And the tempo really picking up again.
06:51 >> She has a little bit more success this round, Whiteside, so far.
06:55 But again, just that upper body movement there, what she's trying to do,
06:58 that's what she needs a bit more of.
07:00 More upper body movement, relax a little bit more, just let the hands go.
07:03 Don't look for the perfect shot, just let them go,
07:05 get the momentum back in your favor.
07:07 >> [APPLAUSE]
07:08 >> Getting through with that right hand
07:10 again, and then switching it downstairs here, Gallagher.
07:13 Whiteside still looking to press the issue here, but getting tagged again.
07:18 >> [APPLAUSE]
07:21 >> And Tyson, Tyson Gallagher landing
07:23 the right hand, and then just a lovely, solid jab coming in from the Luton boxer.
07:29 >> [APPLAUSE]
07:35 >> Again, swing and a miss,
07:37 times two from Whiteside.
07:39 And again, a little toughing right hand, not much power behind it, but
07:42 scoring punches.
07:43 And it's good work, this again from Gallagher.
07:45 And you mentioned it was a better start for Whiteside, but
07:48 she's having the round taken off her again here.
07:50 >> [APPLAUSE] >> Again, a right hand getting through,
07:53 but Whiteside now- >> That's better for Whiteside.
07:55 >> Looking to try and turn it around here.
07:57 >> [APPLAUSE]
08:07 >> It's a better round so far for
08:08 Whiteside than the previous two.
08:10 I think she needs it, she's gotta keep that base.
08:12 >> That's a push.
08:14 >> [APPLAUSE]
08:24 >> Had some moments there.
08:34 Lisa Whiteside, enough moments for you to take that round?
08:38 >> Just about, I think it's a close round, I think she just did enough.
08:41 I think she landed a few better shots this round than Gallagher did, but
08:44 she's fallen short and a footwork you might be able to see on the replays.
08:49 When she's told at the right time, she's fallen over the right foot, and
08:52 she's come square on.
08:54 Whiteside, and she's gonna end up walking on to a big shot.
08:56 She needs to keep that base and keep her shape.
08:59 You can see her now, her footwork's all over the place at the moment,
09:01 which is not like her because she's a top class amateur, as we've been saying.
09:06 She needs to keep the base, keep her shape, keep the fundamentals, and
09:10 try and up the pressure a little bit, and try and break Gallagher down.
09:13 >> [INAUDIBLE]
09:23 >> Round four,
09:24 these women's fights do fly by the two minute rounds.
09:29 Most women boxers that you talk to say, just make us do the three minutes.
09:33 We're big enough and old enough to do that.
09:35 >> It would make our job easier scoring the fights also, wouldn't it?
09:37 >> Yeah. >> As well as the judges.
09:39 Two minute rounds are difficult to score on.
09:41 >> Better from Whiteside, but she takes the right hand back.
09:44 Again, the end of the exchange from Gallagher and another right hand.
09:47 Gallagher responding really well, and bringing her left hand into play as well.
09:52 And the pace, stepping up another level.
09:56 Whiteside's really going for broke here, but she's taking too many back.
10:02 >> Again, what I was saying in the previous round about the footwork,
10:04 there's a cut there.
10:05 Whiteside just under the right eye, or is it the bullet from the nose?
10:08 I think it might be the bullet from the nose, Nick, that spread over.
10:11 But when she's coming square on, when she's falling in after landing a shot,
10:15 big right hand there from Gallagher.
10:16 >> Super shot again.
10:17 Gallagher really having some success here, and pouring it on here.
10:21 And Whiteside now forced to hold.
10:22 >> [APPLAUSE] >> Halfway through this fourth round,
10:26 and Gallagher really starting to unload with these right hands.
10:29 >> [APPLAUSE] >> Whiteside is tough as tungsten,
10:34 she's gonna need to be here.
10:38 >> Good shot there from Whiteside.
10:39 >> Much better from Whiteside, needed that.
10:42 >> She just needs to keep the fundamentals, keep the basics, Nick.
10:45 Keep her footwork straight, don't fall in after the shot, stay in the one stance.
10:49 She gets a bit guilty of falling in when she throws the right hand, and
10:52 it becomes automatically a southpaw.
10:55 She needs to stay straight, stay to your shape, keep that shape.
10:59 >> [APPLAUSE] >> She's regrouped here, Whiteside.
11:07 >> As I say, very tough, very fit, very durable.
11:11 And took a lot of shots, and she's taking more shots here, and
11:14 the blood continues to pour from the nose here.
11:16 >> [APPLAUSE] >> Again, first in with that left hand.
11:21 Gallagher, I think she's had a great round here, Tycee Gallagher really has.
11:27 >> [APPLAUSE]
11:29 [MUSIC]
11:38 >> Whether Paul Smith agrees with me is another matter.
11:40 >> I did, I agree with you that round, I thought she'd done enough early on.
11:43 And she was still pretty much in control in the end of the round there, Gallagher.
11:48 Defending off Whiteside when she was coming in, pushing in, but
11:51 it's a bit of a frustrating at the moment watching Whiteside.
11:54 I know well, I know she's a top class amateur, but
11:56 she's neglected the stuff that made her that top class amateur.
12:00 The basics, the footwork, the jab, the right hand.
12:04 When she's throwing the right hand, she keeps falling in and
12:06 ends up in a southpaw stance.
12:07 And it's when she's square or in that southpaw stance that she's getting
12:11 more from Gallagher and it's having more of an effect as a result.
12:15 Keep to the basics.
12:16 >> [APPLAUSE]
12:22 >> Round five then,
12:24 as we approach the midway point of this Commonwealth title fight.
12:26 Lisa Whiteside,
12:29 [NOISE]
12:32 Is you would think gonna come from behind.
12:35 It all depends what the scoring judges are seeing.
12:37 [NOISE]
12:42 >> Paul's unofficial card is 3-1 Gallagher.
12:45 For me, it's 4-0 Gallagher, but it doesn't matter what we think.
12:48 >> Yeah.
12:52 >> I think what we can all agree on is Whiteside is really gonna have to step
12:55 off her game and just impose that amateur class and
12:58 that pedigree that you were talking about.
13:00 That's a right hand there.
13:00 >> She's in the southpaw stance when she gets caught with the right hand again.
13:04 From Gallagher, she needs to stay in the one stance.
13:06 [NOISE]
13:14 >> Yeah, clever from Gallagher.
13:17 [NOISE]
13:24 >> Lovely right hand first in again, Gallagher.
13:27 I tell you, all the eye catching stuff is coming from Tycee Gallagher here.
13:33 Bounced off better defensively from Whiteside.
13:37 You said it earlier, Paul, she's just so open.
13:38 >> Yeah, she's coming square on when she lets the shots go.
13:43 She's better than that.
13:44 She's a lot better than that.
13:45 Lisa Whiteside, that's better stuff from her there.
13:47 >> Still took the left hand at the end of the exchange, though.
13:49 Gallagher's pretty clever, she's always throwing something and
13:54 very often is having the last word in these exchanges.
13:56 And judges remember those last punches that land when it's close.
14:00 [NOISE]
14:06 >> Really marking up badly under that right lie here, Whiteside.
14:09 I mean, that's a big swelling coming up, a really big swelling now.
14:13 That is almost visibly swelling.
14:15 Not sure what she's caught there, but
14:17 they're gonna have to try and get that under control.
14:21 Because her face is a mess.
14:22 [SOUND]
14:30 >> I'm not sure if she got caught with an elbow or maybe a shoulder, but
14:33 something has certainly brought up a big, big lump under the eye,
14:36 the left eye here of Lisa Whiteside.
14:38 We're not getting the best view of it here, but it's not good.
14:42 >> No, I'm not actually sure the corner saw it while he was preparing to try and
14:45 fix the nose, but there's no end swell on at the moment.
14:48 He needs to get that on, Mark Seltzer, and get that end swell on.
14:51 [MUSIC]
15:01 The referee just told both corners that the bump was caused by a punch, and
15:04 I think that might have been the punch there.
15:06 >> That might well have been it.
15:06 >> Lovely shot.
15:07 [MUSIC]
15:13 >> So if the fight is stopped by that, then we know it was from a punch.
15:16 >> Yeah.
15:18 >> Good for the referee to do that, cuz it's usually all, yes,
15:20 most of the time with cuts, isn't it, as you see?
15:22 [SOUND]
15:25 >> And we're going to the second half of
15:27 this one, Lisa Whiteside, the Commonwealth Games champions and amateur,
15:30 the two-time medalist, bronze medals in two world championships.
15:36 >> Well, really up against it here, against the young, fresh, and very hungry.
15:41 Tycee Gallagher from Luton.
15:43 >> [APPLAUSE]
15:49 >> That's better, much better.
15:51 >> [APPLAUSE]
16:01 >> And then Gallagher sits back behind
16:04 that jab.
16:06 >> And again.
16:08 >> Slower today in this sixth round so far from Gallagher.
16:12 >> [APPLAUSE]
16:14 >> And that's good news for Whiteside.
16:16 >> [APPLAUSE]
16:19 >> Right hand through there from
16:20 the Preston woman.
16:21 >> Not doing much this round, Gallagher.
16:24 >> Yeah. >> Looks like she's taking her foot off
16:25 the gas a little bit.
16:25 >> Yeah.
16:26 >> A little bit of a rest round, which in my opinion isn't what she needs to do here.
16:31 She needs to keep turning the screw, keep beating the wheel, and
16:35 the desire from Whiteside whose game is in it, and will keep coming all night.
16:38 >> [APPLAUSE]
16:43 >> That's better from Whiteside as well,
16:45 right hand.
16:46 Gallagher really slowing down in this round.
16:50 >> Good shot again there from Whiteside.
16:53 >> Yeah, Whiteside really digging in here.
16:54 >> [APPLAUSE]
16:57 >> And just taking the fight away from
16:59 Gallagher, who's now looking very ragged indeed.
17:02 >> This fight's turning around here in round six.
17:05 Spearing straight left hand from Whiteside,
17:07 who's clearly having the best round of the fight so far.
17:11 And boy, how she needed it.
17:12 >> [APPLAUSE]
17:15 >> That's what Gallagher needs right now,
17:17 working behind that jab again.
17:19 But this has been a good round.
17:20 Again, Whiteside with a right hand.
17:23 >> Great round from the right side, yeah.
17:25 >> Much better.
17:25 >> She needed it.
17:26 >> [APPLAUSE]
17:32 >> And as you say,
17:33 if she was taking that round off, that was a huge mistake from Tyce Gallagher.
17:36 >> Yeah, the thing she needed at that time, which she's had in the fight,
17:40 is momentum and keep it in her favor, and keep it on her side.
17:43 But she walked up to a nice right hand there.
17:46 And then it was a sustained pressure and a sustained attack from Whiteside.
17:50 >> [APPLAUSE]
18:01 >> That wasn't all effective.
18:04 [MUSIC]
18:08 Gallagher needed to get behind that jab again.
18:10 [MUSIC]
18:12 There, that's that right hand.
18:14 Well, at the end of that exchange now, can Whiteside keep that going?
18:19 Or will Gallagher go back to plan A?
18:21 [SOUND]
18:25 Round seven of this ten rounder.
18:28 It's get serious time and it's Whiteside who has the first significant shot of
18:32 the seventh round.
18:34 Again, that right hand.
18:34 >> Good shot.
18:36 >> Now, slip.
18:38 >> The shot landed just before that.
18:39 I don't think it was a knockdown, but the shot landed.
18:42 I've seen them give it.
18:45 >> Yeah, Gallagher getting drawn into dangerous territory here now.
18:50 As Whiteside finds her second win.
18:52 [NOISE]
18:59 >> Now, becoming a real battle of wills in
19:02 there.
19:03 [NOISE]
19:13 >> That's better.
19:13 Lovely counters again.
19:15 A counter punch to Tysa Gallagher.
19:17 [NOISE]
19:19 >> Well, they both landed solid almost simultaneously there.
19:21 [NOISE]
19:23 >> Gallagher back behind the jab.
19:25 Better again.
19:25 Nice work again with the left hand, Gallagher.
19:28 No, left hand heavy and it's working.
19:31 That's straight through.
19:33 I mean, she can jab away to this title if she wants,
19:36 because Whiteside is wide open to that jab.
19:39 >> Great rounds of action so far in the two and throw.
19:43 Both having success, both being caught.
19:47 [NOISE]
19:51 >> Well, it's living up to the billing,
19:52 isn't it? We both fancy this one.
19:54 >> I said for Gallagher, though, she needs to make it easy and
19:57 she needs to make it her type of fight.
19:59 This is Whiteside's type of fight.
20:01 This is what she wants.
20:02 Whiteside wants the exchanges.
20:04 Gallagher's been better when she's been jabbing.
20:06 >> Yeah, Gallagher can sit behind that jab.
20:10 As you say, she can make it a lot easier for herself.
20:13 Especially when Whiteside is so open.
20:15 >> [NOISE]
20:21 >> It's gonna come down to what the
20:22 judges like it because they both had some success in that round.
20:25 It was a better round than the previous one from Tycee Gallagher, no question.
20:29 But she really did toss that sixth round away.
20:31 >> Yes, she did.
20:32 I think she was possibly having a round off and gave it away.
20:35 But I think it was at the wrong time.
20:37 I think maybe she did something that went off on the next round off.
20:40 If she felt she needed to, but
20:41 the fact that she probably felt she needed to will say a lot.
20:44 She'll be feeling the pace of this.
20:45 It's been a very, very high-paced fight, Nick,
20:49 as we said from the first bout.
20:51 Commonwealth title means a lot to both these fighters.
20:53 But this is where, if we expect, you see what I meant before about that shot,
20:58 you know, if we expect Lisa Whiteside to be a world champion,
21:01 which a lot of us think that she can't.
21:03 She has to be able to pull out the bag in the latter rounds of fights like this.
21:08 She has to show she's the boss.
21:10 She has to show her experience,
21:12 what she has from all those amateur fights that she's had.
21:14 And this is a very, very interesting fight now.
21:17 >> [INAUDIBLE]
21:21 >> Round eight, Nick.
21:22 [SOUND]
21:27 >> And Whiteside continue to claw her
21:29 way back into this.
21:31 Certainly won the sixth.
21:33 That seventh round was a close call.
21:34 One for the judges to think about.
21:39 >> We were saying before the fight, Nick,
21:41 two-minute round fights are so difficult to score.
21:44 And the pros, you have that third minute to decide to try and split them or
21:48 differentiate between both fighters, but in the two-minute round fights,
21:51 sometimes it's just a case of one minute to one, one minute to the other.
21:55 It's what you like in those minutes.
21:56 >> But I think we're all agreed that Gallagher certainly dominated the first
22:02 half of this fight, whether it's 4-1 or 5-0.
22:05 Now Whiteside has got to box this second half again.
22:08 >> Caught with the right hand and
22:10 the leg stiffened up just for a nanosecond there.
22:14 >> [NOISE] >> Yeah,
22:16 Whiteside needs to take these rounds for me to win this fight.
22:19 In the latter part of the fight, as I mentioned before,
22:22 she's got aspirations of being a world champion.
22:25 She has to turn the screw now.
22:26 She has to really put a foot on the gas.
22:28 >> The blood on the forehead of Gallagher, I think, has come from Whiteside.
22:32 >> [NOISE]
22:37 >> Gallagher really just trying to keep
22:39 some distance here, which is the smart thing to do, but it's easier said than done.
22:43 >> [NOISE]
22:46 >> And again, when she's jabbing,
22:47 she's looking really confident.
22:49 >> [NOISE]
22:51 >> But Whiteside is really in her face.
22:53 >> [NOISE]
22:56 >> This round's a coin toss at the moment.
22:58 Who can have the big finish?
22:59 Well, it's Whiteside that's going for it.
23:01 And then again, another one of those right hands from Gallagher,
23:04 who's gotta stay busy.
23:06 >> [NOISE]
23:16 >> Big finish right off the belt here.
23:23 Terrific finish from Gallagher.
23:24 Now that might just have swayed a close round in her favor.
23:28 >> Then take the pleas later on in the round.
23:30 Now, what will sway a close two minute round?
23:34 >> I was edging towards Whiteside, I was going back, back towards Gallagher.
23:38 And then all of a sudden, the last flurry sort of cemented the round for Gallagher.
23:42 It was a very close round, but
23:43 I think she hit Whiteside there in that last flurry.
23:46 >> I tell you, I had the phrase in my head, coin toss round,
23:49 until those last five seconds.
23:51 >> Yeah.
23:52 >> And if it is a coin toss, it's coming down to Gallagher's favor.
23:54 >> Especially because I think of the effect of if you watch Whiteside walk
23:57 back to the corner after this combination, she was hit.
24:00 She's definitely hit by that shot.
24:01 There was a good flurry there at the end, at the very end of that round.
24:04 [MUSIC]
24:07 >> Well, timing is everything in life, and certainly in sport.
24:10 And that- >> Big shot, yeah.
24:12 >> That may have done enough to clinch the round for her.
24:15 >> [APPLAUSE] >> Now that might be enough,
24:19 even if Whiteside wins these last two rounds.
24:23 I don't see how she wins the fight.
24:25 >> [APPLAUSE] >> Round nine.
24:32 >> [APPLAUSE]
24:42 >> Well, the head's coming together a
24:45 little bit there.
24:46 Gallagher trying to keep her off.
24:50 Trying to sit behind that jab,
24:51 because Whiteside's really gonna have to go for it.
24:55 And when she does, she's open.
24:56 And Gallagher senses it and is going for the finish again.
24:59 >> [APPLAUSE] >> Whiteside with a deep breath.
25:05 >> [APPLAUSE] >> Caught again.
25:09 Lead right hand getting in from Gallagher.
25:11 >> [APPLAUSE]
25:20 >> Falling short with those jabs there,
25:22 Gallagher.
25:23 >> [APPLAUSE] >> This is better from Gallagher.
25:27 It's what she needs to do, box on the back foot.
25:29 Allow Whiteside to come in and try and tag her when she's coming in with that jab.
25:33 It's when Gallagher tries to force it that she tends to get caught.
25:36 >> Yeah.
25:37 >> And walk onto the short counters from Whiteside.
25:39 Good stuff again from Gallagher, boxing really well this round.
25:42 >> And measuring the distance better after those earlier misses.
25:45 She had the double jab and missed.
25:47 But you see what he talks about, making it easy for herself.
25:50 She's really boxing this ninth round.
25:52 >> [APPLAUSE]
26:02 >> I mean, Gallagher's definitely
26:13 better when she's on the back foot.
26:15 When she's boxing and allowing Whiteside to come onto her.
26:19 Picking it off as Whiteside's coming in and falling short.
26:21 [SOUND]
26:26 >> What's your card looking like going into the last round?
26:28 >> It's Gallagher's fight.
26:30 I don't think even if Whiteside wins this last round for me, barring a knockdown,
26:34 I think it's Gallagher's fight for me, as I say.
26:37 And it's tough in these two minute round fights to score.
26:39 It's tough.
26:40 I don't want to envy the judges, but I think the momentum,
26:44 I think the bigger more eye catching shots have been from Tycee Gallagher.
26:48 I think she's done well tonight so far.
26:50 [MUSIC]
26:54 >> Whiteside so game.
26:57 But she really needed a big ninth round to have any chance.
27:00 She didn't have it, not for me.
27:01 >> It's certainly not been for lack of trying, from Rita Whiteside tonight.
27:06 It definitely never will be.
27:07 She'll give everything she's got all the time.
27:09 She's just got the tactics wrong, I think, tonight.
27:11 I think technically a couple of things may have let her down tonight.
27:14 She needs a huge round.
27:16 [NOISE]
27:20 >> Two minutes between the Commonwealth
27:23 Super Bantamweight title for these two.
27:26 Who's gonna hear their name called?
27:28 Who's gonna be a Commonwealth Champion?
27:30 Lisa Whiteside said she loves the symmetry,
27:32 ending her career as an amateur with a Commonwealth Games medal.
27:35 How she'd love to win a Commonwealth Championship as a pro.
27:39 But she needs a huge round here.
27:41 Tycee Gallagher, who's already suffered the disappointment of losing
27:45 a fight for this belt, surely is not gonna be denied here.
27:50 [NOISE]
27:54 And again, you go back to that championship level boxing.
27:56 Yes, Whiteside's had all the pedigree as an amateur.
28:00 As a pro, Gallagher's had the ten rounder.
28:02 She's been here and done that.
28:03 And Whiteside hasn't.
28:06 And maybe that's been a difference maker tonight.
28:07 Look how much Gallagher has learned from that first fight.
28:11 I think tonight Gallagher, out of both fights, has kept the fundamentals.
28:14 She's kept the footwork.
28:15 She's kept the base, kept the shape, kept the jab out.
28:18 Beautiful again.
28:19 And I think ultimately that's what probably what's won her the fight tonight,
28:23 if she gets the victory tonight.
28:24 Whiteside, as I say, it's certainly not for lack of trying.
28:28 She's game as anything.
28:29 She always, always leaves it out there and puts everything on the line.
28:33 I think she's just fell short a little bit tonight with some of the combinations
28:36 she's tried to throw.
28:39 Less than a minute to go.
28:40 Gallagher jabbing away, staying out of trouble, playing it smart.
28:45 Knowing that unless there's an absolute robbery, this belt is going to be hers.
28:51 And as we thought, both of them with a terrific engine.
28:59 Last 30 seconds inside.
29:01 Whiteside with another swing and a miss.
29:04 It looks like she's lost her range.
29:07 And yeah, this fight for Lisa Whiteside has spiraled completely out of control for me.
29:13 For me, it's a very, very wide card.
29:16 I've only got a winning one round.
29:20 There's a couple that are close, but other than that,
29:23 Taisi Gallagher has put on a show tonight.
29:26 She knows it.
29:26 Her fans know it.
29:28 And frankly, I think Lisa Whiteside and her supporters know it as well.
29:32 There's only one winner here.
29:33 Good fight though.
29:35 Lived up to the billing.
29:36 Well, she needed a big finish, didn't she Whiteside?
29:48 But I don't think she got it.
29:50 No, she needed it.
29:51 It's exactly there when I was looking at you.
29:53 She throws the right hand and she ends up in a southpaw stance.
29:56 And she's unable to then throw the left hook after the good right hand that she throws.
29:59 A lot of the basics, she's so good at it.
30:03 So accomplished that the amateurs let her down tonight in the fight.
30:07 But again, I think she's just a little bit too eager, trying so hard to win.
30:10 And I sympathize with her.
30:12 You know, it's difficult to do.
30:14 You've got to win.
30:14 You've got to put everyone on the line.
30:16 She's put everyone on the line.
30:17 But as a result, some of the stuff that helps her win them fights,
30:20 like the basic footwork, like the good technique in some of the shots she's throwing,
30:25 let her down tonight.
30:26 And I think tonight, ultimately, Taisi Gallagher was good tonight.
30:31 It wasn't necessarily Lisa White's game being not as good as she usually is.
30:35 But I think it's probably a deserved win for Gallagher.
30:39 I think it was a very, very good effort tonight.
30:40 Well, it doesn't matter what you think, Vaughn.
30:44 And it certainly doesn't matter what I think.
30:45 It doesn't matter what these fans think.
30:47 Three scoring judges will determine who is the Commonwealth Super Fans Away champion.
30:52 But if it's not Taisi Gallagher, well, that'll be a robbery in my book.
30:59 I've got a 97-93 to Gallagher.
31:01 I think that's the most generous you can be as well.
31:04 Because one round she clearly won.
31:06 Two were close.
31:07 Give the close ones to Whiteside.
31:10 I gave her two on the bounce, Whiteside.
31:11 Round six and seven, when we thought Gallagher possibly took the round off,
31:15 I gave her that one and I gave her the one after that.
31:17 Again, you know, pretty close, but just edge with the momentum.
31:20 I edge with the more eye-catching shots in that round, in my opinion.
31:23 But it's just my opinion.
31:25 And the only opinion is that matter, as you say, Nick,
31:27 are the three scoring judges around the ring will declare a new champion.
31:30 Well, the cards are in.
31:33 MC Ricky Wright is ready.
31:36 We're about to find out who is the Commonwealth Super Fans Away champion.
31:40 The belt's in the ring.
31:41 Well, let's hand over and find out who's got this title.
31:47 Ladies and gentlemen, before we announce the official decision,
31:52 let's hear it for both boxers in the next round of contests.
31:55 [APPLAUSE]
32:01 And gentlemen, standing in the ranks of boxers, we go to the judges for the night.
32:07 Mark Bates has the belt at 98-92.
32:11 Phil Edwards at 97-94.
32:15 And Terry O'Connor, 97-93.
32:18 All of them have made a decision.
32:22 And now your Commonwealth Super Fans Away champion,
32:27 Tycee Gallagher!
32:34 What a performance from Tycee Gallagher.
32:36 Disappointment last time, delight this time.
32:41 No complaints about those scorecards.
32:43 Gracious in defeat as well from Lisa Whiteside, who's classed.
