Getting the Upper Land weekly wrap
Transcript
00:00 Hi and welcome to another episode of Getting Out the Land where we give you a rundown on
00:10 stories making news this week. I'm Senior Journalist Dennis Howard and I'm Livestock
00:14 Editor Rebecca Natch and we're coming to you from Gilman Dyke Pastoral outside Orange.
00:19 Yeah, Bec the land's pretty nice and green and fresh here. It is, it's a shame you're
00:25 not after celebrating yet another birthday on Monday. I'm just older, I'm wiser. Yeah,
00:31 you've got the old part going Pat. Making news this week, Jamie Brown has a good yarn
00:35 on a North Coast sugar producer who's locked in record prices for the next three years.
00:40 Yeah, raw sugars touched $1000 a tonne and growers are feeling pretty optimistic which
00:45 is driving demand for suitable land for expansion. We also take a look at the Virolma response
00:51 changing from containment to management and some beekeepers saying that this change has
00:55 come too late. The National Management Group made the call last Wednesday after deciding
01:01 containment was no longer viable. Now this is 15 months after Virol was first detected
01:06 in the country. Yeah, that's right Bec. What's happening in livestock this week? Oh, you
01:10 mean the best section in the paper? No, I mean the one with the most HR complaints.
01:16 Funny. Simon Chamberlain chats to a vet from the local land services about how producers
01:21 really need to act now when it comes to managing livestock during drought. This includes things
01:27 like making slow changes to feed rations and also addressing calcium deficiencies with
01:31 supplements. There's also a story from Lexi Burnout with some good pics. Yeah, she's done
01:36 a nice spread chatting to a pole dorset producer and the changes he's made to improve efficiencies
01:41 within the flock. And we've also got a good wrap of some New South Wales success at the
01:45 Melbourne Royal Show with Finlay and Hay High Schools taking home some major broad ribbons
01:50 pretty early on. Oh, that's great. As always, the land can be purchased at all good news
01:55 agencies. And don't forget to jump online and follow us at theland.com.au and like us
02:01 on Facebook and follow us on Instagram. See you next week. We'll be back next week with
02:05 more.
