00:00 Ji-Ming Boy, the author of When I Was a Kid III, has expressed surprise that the Home

00:09 Boy, who currently resides in the US, said the book, which was published in 2014, was

00:16 initially well-received and enabled him to interact with readers in schools across the

00:21 country.

00:23 In an Instagram post, Boy said he was shocked to learn that his book, which won the top

00:28 spot at a Reader's Choice Award, has been banned almost a decade later.

00:33 Yesterday, the Home Ministry said the book was banned as it contained material that is

00:38 likely to be prejudicial to morality and ordered its sale to cease under Section 7(1) of the

00:45 Printing Presses and Publications Act, 1984.

00:49 The ban comes after dozens of Indonesians, led by NGO Chorong Rakyat, protested outside

00:55 the Malaysian Embassy in Jakarta in June against the book because they claimed it contained

01:00 a page in which an Indonesian maid working in Malaysia was unfairly criticized.

01:06 In the chapter that may have sparked the controversy, Boy's former Indonesian helper had scaled

01:11 a coconut tree at an impressive speed.

01:14 Boy apologized to those who may have been unintentionally hurt, saying it was never

01:20 his intention to offend anyone, but rather to commend the qualities of his former helper.

01:26 He also said this controversy arose due to a misinterpretation of the contents of the
