00:00 When the river flows from Sanjay Gandhi National Park,
00:04 we have tried to capture the flow of the river in a simple way.
00:09 But when the river moves ahead,
00:11 and starts to curve,
00:13 we see it in the rain for the first time.
00:18 All this water was coming from the Thakur Complex.
00:21 And in this Thakur Complex,
00:22 there is a parking lot of Mumbai Municipal Palika.
00:25 There were 250 vehicles that had gone under the cliff.
00:29 And all these 250 vehicles were taken out in this cliff.
00:33 Hello, I am Vinayak Parabdhe,
00:49 from Lok Satta Ghost Mumbai Parva 2.
00:51 In this second episode,
00:53 we have understood the story of the different rivers in Mumbai.
00:58 We have understood the importance of these rivers.
01:00 And we have understood the importance of the
01:03 connections of these rivers in the Mumbai area.
01:07 In this episode, we have tried to understand
01:10 why the rivers always flow in a curve.
01:13 And why the rivers in Mumbai flow in a curve.
01:16 And why we see a lot of water
01:19 in the places where the rivers are curved.
01:24 In all the episodes so far,
01:27 we have understood the connection of the Mithi River.
01:29 We have understood the importance of the
01:32 Poshivra River in the Dahisar River and the previous episode.
01:34 In this episode, we will understand the importance of
01:38 the Pohisar River, which flows through the Kandivali area.
01:44 (Music)
02:02 The origin of the Pohisar River is in the Sanjay Gandhi National Park,
02:05 like other rivers.
02:08 But the connection between the Sanjay Gandhi National Park,
02:12 the Kandivali and Borivali areas,
02:15 is where the Pohisar River originates.
02:18 To give you a specific location,
02:21 there is a place called Devi's Pada on the Kandivali side of the hill.
02:25 The Pohisar River originates in the vicinity of this pada.
02:30 This river flows down from there.
02:33 If we go there now, we can see the Lokhandwala Complex,
02:37 and the Evershine Nagar.
02:40 In the past, this river used to flow from Akurli village to Akurli village.
02:48 But now, this middle section has been made urbanized,
02:53 so it is like a bus-bus bridge.
02:55 So, we can see that when this river flows from the Sanjay Gandhi National Park,
03:02 it flows from there.
03:05 We have tried to understand this very clearly.
03:08 If you look at the map,
03:10 or search on Google Earth,
03:13 you will see that this is the Evershine Nagar area,
03:17 or the Lokhandwala area before that.
03:20 From here, we can see a straight line.
03:24 This straight line, like the river Jashish,
03:26 goes all the way to the West Dhrutagati Mahamarga.
03:30 On one side, there is the Mahindra and Mahindra,
03:33 a famous company,
03:35 and they have a huge complex.
03:37 And right next to this complex,
03:39 there is the Bhinta and the Poissabh river.
03:44 From there, the Poissabh river flows straight to the West Dhrutagati Mahamarga.
03:50 Here is a problem.
03:52 The problem is that we have tried to control the Nagmodi Valanja.
03:57 We have never faced any problem in this area.
04:01 But when the river moves a little ahead,
04:03 and starts to curve,
04:06 we can see that the river has been in a state of turbulence.
04:12 The first wave hit us in 2005, on 26 July.
04:17 And the entire Mahamarga,
04:19 was completely submerged in the river's water.
04:23 After that, when the river crosses the West Dhrutagati Mahamarga,
04:27 and moves to the other side,
04:29 we can see that on one side,
04:31 there is the Indian Army's COD depot.
04:35 Central Ordnance Depot.
04:37 This depot is on one side,
04:39 and on the other side, there is the Thakur Complex.
04:41 So, on one side, there is the COD depot,
04:43 and on the other side, there is the Thakur Complex.
04:46 And from here, the river moves ahead in a different curve.
04:50 I said earlier that when it comes in a straight line,
04:53 it starts to curve,
04:55 and that is where the biggest wave,
04:57 the Pura sandarbatli, is.
04:59 If we look at the history of the past few years,
05:02 that is, from 2005 to the last year,
05:07 we will notice that,
05:09 in this entire period,
05:11 many years have passed,
05:13 when the Thakur Complex part,
05:15 has been submerged.
05:17 The Central Ordnance Depot,
05:19 has a lot of soil.
05:21 So, if that part is submerged,
05:23 it doesn't make much of a difference.
05:25 But if all this water flows into the Thakur Complex,
05:27 or if it flows into the adjacent,
05:29 Pohisar Jhupadpatti,
05:31 then it becomes a huge problem.
05:33 And we experienced this huge problem on 26th July.
05:37 Friends, the biggest problem of the Pura sandarbatli,
05:40 in the Mithi River,
05:42 was seen in the Air India Colony,
05:44 in Santa Cruz.
05:46 The reason for that was,
05:48 this was the same place,
05:50 where we tried to change the flow of the sand.
05:53 The biggest problem in the Dahisar River,
05:56 is that the Dahisar River,
05:58 which flows out to the West Dhrutagati Mahamarga,
06:00 comes out from there.
06:02 This was the place where we saw,
06:04 the entire area of Shri Krishna Nagar.
06:06 And now, we are talking about the Pohisar River,
06:08 its most important streams,
06:10 start from the West Dhrutagati Mahamarga,
06:14 and after the streams start from there,
06:17 they take different streams again.
06:19 On one side, the COD's Depot,
06:21 and the Thakur Complex,
06:23 this river flows through this.
06:25 And we saw a huge flood here.
06:27 The entire Pohisar Depot,
06:29 was under the Pohisar River in 2005.
06:32 And the same river was seen in the Thakur Complex.
06:35 When the water was flowing in the Thakur Complex,
06:37 the entire bottom of some buildings,
06:39 was completely submerged.
06:41 And the water had reached the first level.
06:44 We saw such a huge flood,
06:46 in the Pohisar River,
06:48 in the Pura.
06:50 Last year,
06:52 whether we took the water or not,
06:54 we didn't take much water.
06:56 Because last year,
06:58 the water level of the Pohisar River,
07:00 was completely filled with water.
07:02 All this water,
07:04 had come to the Thakur Complex.
07:06 And in this Thakur Complex,
07:08 there is a parking lot of Mumbai Mahanagar,
07:10 where the 250 vehicles,
07:12 had gone under the water of the Pohisar River,
07:14 under the mud.
07:16 And all these 250 vehicles,
07:18 were taken out in this huge flood.
07:20 And this huge flood,
07:22 when the Pohisar River,
07:24 comes out of this,
07:26 it has to cross an important road,
07:28 which is the Western Railway,
07:30 or the West Railway,
07:32 a bridge goes over it,
07:34 and the river comes out,
07:36 when the river comes to the Kandimli West,
07:38 the Vivekananda Road,
07:40 means Swami Vivekananda Road,
07:42 that link road,
07:44 the middle part,
07:46 it goes a little straight,
07:48 and after crossing the link road,
07:50 this river,
07:52 starts flowing straight towards the darkness.
07:54 Now, the darkness and the Kandimli,
07:56 is a huge difference.
07:58 After Kandimli, there is Malad, Goregaon,
08:00 and the mall called Infinity,
08:02 in Goregaon,
08:04 comes to the bottom of Varsova,
08:06 means Varsova and Madh Jetti,
08:08 the middle part of it comes out,
08:10 and comes to the Arabian Sea.
08:12 Till now, we have seen,
08:14 that other rivers have different histories.
08:16 We have seen the Dahisar River,
08:18 in the 10th century,
08:20 we have seen the Oshivra River,
08:22 there too, we have seen the Middle Ages.
08:24 But is there anything like this,
08:26 in the Pohisar River?
08:28 If we have seen the ancient,
08:30 Ghost of Mumbai,
08:32 we will realize,
08:34 that the first existence of humans in Mumbai,
08:36 we have found in the Pohisar River.
08:38 If we remember,
08:40 I had mentioned Colonel Tod,
08:42 and he had found an arrow-throwing weapon there.
08:44 And this weapon,
08:46 was a few thousand years old.
08:48 So, for the existence of humans in Mumbai,
08:50 the most important evidence,
08:52 was found in the Pohisar River.
08:54 But we find more,
08:56 instances of the Pohisar River,
08:58 and they try to tell us,
09:00 some different things.
09:02 If we go to Borivali West,
09:04 there is a school,
09:06 which is on the left side,
09:08 after the Lehni on Mandapesh.
09:10 It is a little crooked,
09:12 or in the context of Mandapeshwar,
09:14 or in the context of Lehni,
09:16 we go to look for historical references,
09:18 at that time, the references in English,
09:20 tell us,
09:22 that this Lehni is in the area of Mount Pohisar.
09:24 Or Mount Pohisar,
09:26 is mentioned there even today.
09:28 If we look directly,
09:30 Pohisar village is very far,
09:32 means, the Pohisar hut area,
09:34 and the Pohisar village area,
09:36 this western part of the river,
09:38 the Kandivli west,
09:40 that is the part of the village.
09:42 And this part is very long.
09:44 Among this, we find,
09:46 another historical reference,
09:48 that is the Mahgathani Lehni.
09:50 This Mahgathani Lehni,
09:52 is in Borivali East.
09:54 But when this reference is found,
09:56 at that time, different researchers,
09:58 have mentioned,
10:00 that the Lehni is near Mount Pohisar.
10:02 Both these references,
10:04 tell us,
10:06 that the Pohisar river was very big,
10:08 and the Pohisar river area,
10:10 or this area was very big,
10:12 that area was very big,
10:14 which was known by the name of Pohisar river.
10:16 Friends, in all these three parts,
10:18 we will realize,
10:20 that all the rivers of Mumbai,
10:22 which you and I,
10:24 all the Mumbaikars,
10:26 have given the form of a canal,
10:28 all these rivers are really,
10:30 very important for our existence.
10:32 And not only important,
10:34 their historical importance,
10:36 we will find it very rarely.
10:38 While going to the Pohisar river,
10:40 I will tell you a very important thing.
10:42 And that is,
10:44 the straight part of the Pohisar river,
10:46 and the curve that is coming ahead,
10:48 is very dangerous.
10:50 If we do not take any measure,
10:52 if we do not take any measure,
10:54 then we will have to face,
10:56 the Pohisar river in the future.
10:58 In many parts of Ghost Mumbai,
11:00 we will see,
11:02 the interesting incidents,
11:04 the fascinating incidents,
11:06 and the fascinating incidents,
11:08 may seem different.
11:10 We will understand this in many parts.
11:12 Till then, do not forget to subscribe
