00:00 A forensics report on the fatal Batangkali landslide has revealed that rainfall was the
00:06 primary contributing factor to the incident.
00:10 Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who leads the National Disaster Management
00:14 Agency, said the report identified a combination of prolonged heavy rainfall for five days
00:19 leading up to the incident and the preceding month as the factors behind the landslide.
00:24 Zahid said the intense rainfall led to the slope's collapse, burying campsites like
00:28 Hillview, Farmview, and Riverside under soil debris, resulting in property damage and loss
00:33 of lives.
00:35 He said that investigations found no concrete evidence to show that human activities contributed
00:39 to the landslide incident, and that the full report could be accessed by the public on
00:44 NatMAS website from 10am tomorrow.
00:46 The landslide occurred in the early hours of December 16 last year at the Father's Organic
00:51 Farm campsite at Batangkali in Hulukgalang, Selangor, killing 31 people, including 13
00:57 children and injuring 61 others.
00:59 Previously, Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change Minister Nick Nazmi Nick
01:04 Ahmad said a preliminary report on the landslide was presented to the Cabinet on January 4.
