Run Defense Can Still Get Better For Notre Dame
Transcript
00:00 What are the things they need to go better?
00:05 Run defense, that flat out because we just we know names past defense has been
00:09 elite this season.
00:10 They rank 52nd in the country in rush defense.
00:14 And here's the thing, you can't say, well,
00:16 that's because they played a triple option team.
00:19 They held Navy below what Notre Dame's currently giving up 129.9 rushing yards
00:23 per game.
00:24 They held Navy to 126.
00:26 It's not because of Navy.
00:28 It's because you gave up a buck 89 to Duke, so you gave up a buck 85 to Louisville.
00:32 That's what it comes down to.
00:34 And you've got to fix those performance.
00:35 And Ohio State didn't run for a lot of yards, but
00:37 you did have that one big long play.
00:39 You got to eliminate that.
00:40 They've been very good at times this season.
00:43 I thought the first four games they were pretty good on defense, run defense.
00:48 Central Michigan was a little bit up and down, but
00:50 you were very good running and you're running defense against USC.
00:54 So they've shown the ability to be that type of team.
00:57 They've got to do that these last four games.
00:59 That's going to be a big key because again, you're talking about teams that
01:03 aren't exactly light in the world on fire running the football.
01:06 Pitt ranks 119th running the football this year against power five teams around.
01:10 They're only averaging 94 yards per game running the football.
01:13 Clemson ranks 67th.
01:14 They're only averaging 147.7, only 3.9 per carry.
01:18 These are against power five teams.
01:20 Wake Forest is your best running team that you're going to play so far.
01:25 Think about that, Wake Forest at 153 yards per game against power five teams,
01:29 3.6 per carry.
01:30 That's the best run defense you're going to face.
01:32 Stanford is 97th with 118.7.
01:36 Those are their numbers against power five teams, by the way.
01:39 So I'm just trying to put into context what those teams have done.
01:43 And a lot of that for Stanford was because they ran all over USC for 209.
01:50 Their last four games, 108 to Arizona, 89 to Oregon,
01:53 124 against Colorado, 24 yards against UCLA.
01:57 So you have a chance to get right run game wise.
02:03 We need to see them do that.
02:04 This is a chance for them to get that part of their game going.
02:07 And
