Notre Dame Offense Has A Mismatch Against Stanford

00:00 To begin, we're going to do what we always do, right?

00:06 We're going to dive into the matchups that matter.

00:08 And really the matchups that matter in this game to me, we'll start with the offense.

00:13 We'll kind of dive into each matchup and just kind of go over some numbers.

00:18 And then I'll finish up each segment, you know, with a look at the matchup to me that's most

00:23 important either to the game or the one that I'm most interested in.

00:27 And in this particular one, it's not so much about the one that's most important as the one that as far as winning and losing,

00:33 but it's the one that I think is the most interesting and the one that I have the highest pressure on.

00:36 So let's just look at the offense versus the defense.

00:38 And guys and gals, you're going to see it.

00:41 I mean, Stanford's just not good.

00:43 They're really not good.

00:45 And these numbers show it.

00:46 You know, Notre Dame offensively, this season ranks fourth in scoring, 46th in yards per game, but they're 10th in yards per play.

00:55 Those numbers are kind of interesting.

00:57 And when you look at Notre Dame's rushing, I'll get into that as well.

01:00 Part of the reason that Notre Dame ranks where they rank is because they just, when you look at the number of plays they've run this year,

01:07 they rank very low in total number of plays.

01:09 Notre Dame ranks 122nd in total number of plays.

01:13 Why is that?

01:14 Well, part of it is they've gotten short fields this year.

01:17 That's what happens when you have a great defense.

01:20 They've gotten a number of short fields.

01:22 They've been a bit of a slower moving offense.

01:25 They go at a slower pace, which we've talked about.

01:29 And just the way that the defense plays and the way that the games have gone, Notre Dame, it just, they just, the games don't last very long.

01:38 That's just really what it boils down to.

01:39 And, you know, those are things to kind of look into it.

01:43 So like the numbers overall, the numbers for Notre Dame this season don't look necessarily great from a total yard standpoint.

01:53 But when you look at some of the particulars of it, oh, and the other thing is Notre Dame's in a lot more of a big playoff offense this season.
