NFC Conference Contenders and Pretenders

00:00 Speaking of pretenders, let's move to the NFC conference.
00:03 Is there some teams that stand out that were like,
00:05 okay, you know what, they look like contenders
00:07 to begin with, but they're actually pretenders.
00:09 - I think you are down in the NFC to five of them.
00:13 And the season started out with three of them.
00:15 Eagles, 49ers, Cowboys, that hasn't changed.
00:20 - They're still there.
00:21 - Right.
00:22 The Lions come out of the gate
00:24 and go get the Chiefs on week one.
00:26 And not that they haven't had the occasional stumble,
00:29 but they look for real.
00:30 - Right, Jared Goff's having a great season.
00:32 - And then last year in Seattle,
00:35 and I don't know that anybody saw that coming last year,
00:37 and the next thing you know,
00:38 the Seahawks under Coach P. Carroll are in the playoffs.
00:40 Well, they've built on that now.
00:42 They're better now than they were.
00:44 And one of the issues they had was stopping the run,
00:46 and they've added some defensive pieces
00:49 that help them do that.
00:51 So I don't think that the Lions should be dismissed,
00:54 just 'cause they're not one of the big three,
00:56 maybe there's a big four.
00:57 I don't think Seattle should be dismissed.
00:59 Maybe there's a big five.
01:02 I do think in the NFC South,
01:06 the Atlanta Falcons sit at four and four now,
01:09 and yet aren't quite sure who the quarterback should be.
01:12 As Heineke, who was a folk hero in Washington, of course,
01:17 against the kid Ritter,
01:18 and there aren't great answers there.
01:21 They have a weird game in which B. John Robinson
01:23 isn't feeling well, so he doesn't touch the ball.
01:26 They spend premium picks on a wide receiver in London
01:30 and on the tight end in pits,
01:31 and then don't exactly use 'em.
01:34 And so there's still some mysteries to be solved in Atlanta.
01:37 Atlanta's not on the same level with those other five teams,
01:40 but somebody's gonna win the NFC South.
01:42 - True, somebody has to win.
01:44 - And depending on how the thing shuffles,
01:46 somebody could win the NFC South
01:48 and open up the playoffs with a home game,
01:50 and that somebody could very well be Atlanta,
01:52 which makes you real enough in that moment.
