Bears coach Matt Eberflus announces the firing of running backs coach David Walker and defends the hiring process.

00:10 I made the decision this morning that a running back coach,
00:25 Coach Walker, has been relieved of his duties.
00:28 As the head coach, we are building a program, have standards to uphold to,
00:33 as a staff and organization, both on and off the field.
00:37 And those standards were not met.
00:38 I'm not gonna get into details other than he's no longer on the staff.
00:45 Omar Young will be taking over the running back coaching spot today.
00:50 Has really good experience with that, has coached at the college level,
00:54 also the pro level.
00:56 He was currently working with the receivers, and
00:58 then also the passing game with the quarterbacks.
01:01 I would say that the responsibility is there,
01:03 because I'm the head football coach.
01:05 But I would also say that the standard has to be met, and
01:09 when it's not met, you make a decision, and we did that.
01:12 Absolutely not, absolutely not.
01:14 So the culture in our building is outstanding.
01:18 The guys work hard every single day.
01:20 The relationship piece is there.
01:22 We care about each other, and we're working diligently to get this thing turned.
01:28 We're 2-2 in the last two games.
01:30 One game was real close, had a chance at that one.
01:32 And we really feel we're turning the corner there, and
01:35 we feel excited about this week.
01:38 But to answer your question, our culture is awesome.
01:40 I would say that we take pride in that.
01:43 We take pride in vetting the guys, just player, coach, staff.
01:46 We take pride in that.
01:47 But again, when the standards aren't met, we take action, and that's where it is.

01:55 So I met with the leadership council this morning, and it was good.
01:58 It was good.
01:58 The guys were, obviously, I got to the running back guys first, and
02:02 then worked from there, and talked to the leadership council.
02:05 Our guys are resilient.
02:06 They really are.
02:08 They're tough-minded.
02:09 They've been through adversity, and the culture is great here.
