Ryan Poles on Sitting in the Draft's Pole Position

Chicago Bears GM Ryan Poles is focused on learning more about the QB draft prospects before deciding on trading the first pick or Justin Fields.

00:18 This is opportunity for us to continue to gather information,

00:22 learn about the different players in the draft,

00:25 listen to what opportunities could come up.

00:28 And then at the end of the day, we're gonna make the best decision that we can for

00:32 the Chicago- >> I would say our approach is exactly

00:34 the same in terms of we gotta look at every option and

00:37 determine what is best for our team.

00:39 Obviously, we chose to trade back last year, and

00:43 I think that helped our team out a lot.

00:47 So again, we'll do a deep dive and see how- >> Now it's like 100 different scenarios

00:53 that you go down and try to plot out, and you're forecasting forward to see

00:57 what's gonna work out and probabilities and things like that.

01:01 But at the end of the day, the human being part, getting to know someone,

01:04 getting to know a group of people is really gonna determine.

01:08 There's gonna be options that pop up all the time that you don't see coming.

01:13 I think I said it last year,

01:15 something will happen at some point in the next few months that no one expects.

01:18 >> Right.

01:19 >> So you gotta be on your toes for that, so the picture will change.

01:22 >> Yeah, it's hard to say right now, but

01:24 it's gotta help our organization significantly to move around.

01:29 Because we saw what it did last year, and I'm looking for

01:34 that type of return to continue to improve us.

01:36 Spend time, I mean, any type of relationship, it's time on task and

01:42 just kinda getting to know the personality.

01:47 There's been a ton of information gathering from my team,

01:49 just in terms of teammates, coaches, things like that.

01:53 But you gotta spend time with another person, really understand the work.
